Ipod 4g is a scam...seriously. Its got like half the ram of the iphone 4, leading it to have problems with games where the iphone 4 wouldnt. I'm still super sad that they didnt provide a real upgrade for the ipod this year....all they did was make it white...doh.
b4 running this game, like every other Unreal Engine game i own... i close every app, i free ram (my ipod is jailbroken) and i do a hard reboot.... and once I run the app after everythiung is done... crash on the Unreal screen.... i have like 4 apps atm that i bought only to leave them in the waiting corner of my ipod to see if someday it gets fixed... at least MapleStory Cave Crawlers got an update today fixing ipod4 crashes... gotta try that one now (Just tried it and it finally works been waiting since december's sale though -__-)
Damn! I thought it was a i4 with no antenna If its got the same RAM as a 3gs and 3rd gen no wonder it screws up all the time. Back on impressions - This game has replaced temple run as my go-to quick game. If luckysheep can make a endless runner that is this good, cannot wait to see how the metroidvania platformer hinted at for future will turn out.
That's way, way too harsh. The issue is simple: unlike the iPhone, the iPod Touch is unsubsidized; to make the price comparable to the iPhone, they had to cut costs somewhere. Most games work well with 256 MB, but those that push the envelope (using Unreal) don't -- at least not without some optimization. You could argue that Apple should have just take less profit and put in 512 MB on the Touch. But that's just not the way Apple works.
A bad new: I just buy a 32G iPod touch(OS 5.0), and run darkness rush. Everything is OK, no crash here!
I bought the game last night and opened it up today. It was crashing after the company logo screen for me too. However, iVaro's little trick seemed to work. I thought I would put it out there since you guys said the crash wasn't reproducible on iPod touch 8GB. I have an 8 gig model running iOS 5.0.1. You guys should work on the grammatical errors ASAP because I'm going to throw a hissy fit (not really). It's annoying because I'm spending more time correcting them in my head than actually playing the game. Edit I wanted to point out that the last two achievements have the same description!
So I tried multiplayer again last night - it was unplayable. First it really did take about 2 minutes to get into a 2 player game (I first tried 4 player, and after waiting like 5 minutes, I gave up), and when I did get in, it was so laggy it was ridiculous. I was on wifi, but I don't know what my opponent's connection was. This all really needs to be fixed. How many people are playing multiplayer? I can't imagine the numbers are so few that it takes 2+ minutes to wait for someone. And if that lag is due to 3G, then playing over 3G should be removed (or fixed). It's too bad too because it seems like multiplayer could be pretty fun, especially with four players. Single player is still good though - pretty addictive, even if I'm not very good .
I guess im lucky to play without lag in multiplayer. I forgot the name of the one I defeated Took me around 3 minutes to find somebody playing though.
It seems a bit of a stretch to use UE on an endless runner. Unless you don't really care about profit.
We are working on improving MultiMatch of Darkness Rush. We had realized it is the most important feature of Darkness Rush, though there are some issues need to be fixed.
Toucharcade gave a positive review. Nice to know I'm not the only one experiencing framerate problems. Tried on my iPhone 4 and two different iPad 2, framerate was spotty on all devices. It also gets increasingly bad the further you get. I'm still having fun though. It's a good game. I just hope the performance is tweaked in later updates. Also, more missions objectives.
Once again, iCloud should be synonymous with universal. I find myself saying this on every other newly released universal game. Glad that it is coming, but two versions from now may be a while? Great game!
Also, an idea to the dev is to take the formula up a notch and do something like Wind-up Knight with Darkness Rush, with different stages, platforming involving wall jumping and other moves. Maybe in a sequel or IAP expansion? It would feel a lot more like Castlevania, and who doesn't love some wall jumping?
I play on an ipod 3g and I have absolutely no frame drops or anything. Once I get the game to run, it runs really smoothly.
