I never played Demon's Souls but... HOLY %&*$ THIS GAME IS BRUTAL. I just got past the Undead Burg, which is the second area counting the prologue. I now know the true meaning of gamer rage. At the same time, it's a lot of fun. Can't wait to play more. Anyone else get it?
I played the first one, but as a rather casual gamer with not much time on my hands I gave up after some time. I was surprised how often I tried starting over and over again, so the games sure have some appeal, but I completely failed at the first boss second world. And I thought I was pretty strong already.
My copy arrives tomorrow. I'm a massive fan on Demon's Souls (one of my top 10 games ever, easily) and can't wait to see what's new. To be honest I don't expect it to beat Demon's Souls, but I think it'll sit happily alongside it and I'll forever be going back to both games.
thanks for the heads up. i saw your post, got dressed and managed the last copy at gamestop. got platinum on the first. here's to another 120 hours of fun!
Word of advice, Bonfires are ridiculously far apart. If you're having trouble with a section it's in your best interest to grind for some Humanity to revert from your Hollowed form and kindle the Bonfire. Permanently gives you twice the amount of health flasks when you rest there, not to mention it helps other players resting there. Technically I've mad NO progress since my original post since I'm still technically at the same Bonfire. However I've opened up a few shortcuts and I know where the next one is. I've got every section down to a science, except for the very end where there are knights that can insta-kill you. But nonetheless it is incredibly addicting, and after you get over the realization that you'll die a lot and lose up to an hour's worth of progress, it becomes a sort of learning experience, and death is simply a part of that experience. It turns from feeling frustrated to the game teaching you patience. This should tide me over until Skyrim and then some.
Loved Demon's Souls, just spent about 4 hours with this new game last night and couldn't be more blown away. The combat actually feels tighter and more tense. (Although for some reason I wasn't able to switch between targets; has this been removed or am I missing something?) Anyway, can't wait to play this game some more; nice to see folks here at TA enjoying it.
Skyrim is the next game in the eldar scrolls series. Previous game was called Oblivion. It is very different to Demons/Dark souls.
Yes, I actually looked it up after posting the question. And I agree, in a way I think Oblivion was almost the antithesis of Demon's Souls. It had some things going for it no doubt, but personally I could never get into it.
all my skills are coming back. i died a few times in the beginning, but seem to be faring pretty well now. feels like old times. like the no Hub now.
Awesome game in every way imo. I think the enemy AI has improved over Demon Souls and the open world map is great. There seems so much to discover. Tried out Warrior and Wanderer, the former seems more to my taste although a bit slower. I'm tempted to try out the Deprived.
I really like the open world and not seeing loading screens over Demon Souls. Unfortunately, its appears the AI is still just as bad DM. It's funny to see enemies still glitching on the environments and have path finding issues.
In the first main area, there are four undead gathered by a tall ladder. You normally come across them via the merchant and need to draw them out to kill them in order to use the ladder behind them. On one of my playthroughs as a hunter though, I tried sniping them from a far off vantage point across from where the ladder is. To my amazement they actually turned around and began climbing the ladder (opposite direction from where I was shooting) as that was the shortest path to get to me. Knocking them off the ladder with arrows then watching them get up and begin climbing again was one of my "greatest gaming moments" of all time. But true, in other cases the AI can be a little less bright. Just wanted to illustrate that at times it shows moments of brilliance as well.
Anyone else have that drake sword, the thing is a life saver, i spent about seven hours in undead burg, got the drake sword and cut down undead parish to four, but i barely died, i had 7 humanity at one point. Once you get past the first main area your golden. Patience is key.
I've only played about 30 hours or so (rang one of the bells). The AI seems better at climbing ladders and chasing you for longer distances. However all of the mini bosses I've encountered still have a limit as to how far they will go. For me the open world is the best improvement over demon souls so far.
Yes, I have the drake sword for my sorcerer. It's powerful early game, but unfortunately it doesn't scale with your levels though.
