Trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GgOPyR6C24k I don't know what is your opinion but I have been tired to see all the time pixels and pixels. Is this a trend to have pixelated graphics? Is this nice? Do we have to remember that generation all the time due to nostalgia? I myself have grown up with pixelated games from NES era but I don't understand where is the fun to create these type of graphics even nowadays. We have HD devices, not 80s & 90s game handhelds.

I can see how devs get into this: - If you got smooth graphics people want it smooth all the way to 2048x1536 on iPad 3. Graphics that look smooth across all iOS devices are somewhat more expensive (3D apps don't really have this problem) to create and keep up to date. But really devs get no kudos whatsoever for doing the effort. - There's probably a wealth of 'pixelated treasures' (old 2D assets) lying around. - But if you go with pixels your game becomes 'stylish' and say bye to device differences. In the other thread it didn't seem like it appealed to many people, maybe they just want to get people to try it? Sucks for those who bought it though. Actually there's a simple explanation. It's an art style, an artistic choice by a developer. Would you question why an artist prefer pastels over paint? Pixel graphics does not mean retro graphics, it doesn't have to be aimed at nostalgia, and they're not any better or worse than any other art style Nobunaga Well-Known Member Jun 2, 2012 1,094 0 0 #9 Nobunaga, Apr 24, 2014 I normally don't complain about new release price drops. It seems to have become a trend to release a freemium game with a price tag and then a week or less later drop the price to free. This is a perfect example. It's a decent game. Continues cost $'s though. I do wish publishers would just make up their minds. Is your game being paid for up front, or on an instalment plan... ? Tommet Well-Known Member Apr 5, 2011 357 1 0 #10 Tommet, Apr 24, 2014 It's a cash grab. It's always a cash grab. They want to make money and forget about the consumer. Solution: don't buy it till it goes free, then don't buy any IAP if you do get it. Bronxsta Well-Known Member Oct 10, 2012 4,698 7 38 http://indiegameenthusiast.blogspot.com/ #11 Bronxsta, Apr 24, 2014 This isn't really a freemium game. And I don't think it's a cash grab either. Sales were probably nonexistent, developer desperately need exposure and attention, decided to be featured in a sale. There is literally only one piece of IAP and that's to buy continues for $0.99. No boosters, no coin packs, no ads, no timers, no social media, etc. It's a fun challenging game. Anyone who enjoys twitchy action game should check it out. It's definitely inspired by Dojo of Death but is more varied and has better pixel art. It's definitely worth a try Nobunaga Well-Known Member Jun 2, 2012 1,094 0 0 #12 Nobunaga, Apr 24, 2014 It is a high score chasing game where you can purchase continues to get a higher score. You start with 3 then need to pay $1 for every 3 extras. Casinos have been using tactics like this for a long time. There is the allure of beating a boss that appears somewhere in the game to get a constant extra life. In all honesty, that is almost as big a push as I have seen in a game for IAP. If you can ignore that, maybe pretend continues don't exist, it's a decent game. Any game so up front about IAP was designed to be free. Charging for it for a handful of days seems a little dishonest. I'm alright with price drops on games I've purchased. I however, feel that this game was designed to be free and make money from IAP. tea Well-Known Member Jul 23, 2010 142 3 18 #13 tea, Apr 24, 2014 Actually when artists talk, do you know what? whether to use pastel or color or digital tools is a recurrent topic. And digital stuff is so hyped because it's... ...cheaper, faster, cleaner. Was talking with a friend recently and asking to see more of his impressionist stuff and he just told me 'it's a lot more strokes'. Art is not free from economic considerations let alone mobile game production. Lots of people still think Duchamps exhibited toilet seats because he was a cheapskate, likewise Picasso often seemed like he spent more time marketing his stuff than painting (although he clearly knew how to make very detailed work!). An economical choice needn't be a bad or uninteresting choice ( I hope! Otherwise nobody would ever like my stuff either) but I think very fine displays allow exploring new styles and personally would be happy to see more of that. I do think pixel art is retro no matter what, surely this style doesn't predate lo def computer displays does it? IMHO iPhone low game prices encouraged ports of oldies, which in turn brought nostalgia for pixel art, which now enjoys a revival on iOS. And this style is fashionable, art is full of trends and fashions anyways. That I don't like px art, and think this pixelated game looks good, really illustrates how I think about... ...lots of stuff. tea Well-Known Member Jul 23, 2010 142 3 18 #14 tea, Apr 24, 2014 I just checked the rankings and this game is basically a small hit. Most likely reason the dev made it free is to test their IAP. And by the looks of it it makes more as a paid app so it won't stay free. I don't think the promo/price drops section is a bad place to talk about the price of a game Nobunaga Well-Known Member Jun 2, 2012 1,094 0 0 #17 Nobunaga, Apr 24, 2014 Really annoying to see fanboys defend and justify every crappy move a developer or publisher makes then complain that people are "complaining" about it. I think we all understand that gaming is a business. Discussing the business and criticizing/praising a company for business decisions is part of the discussion that goes on here. Whining about that goes on here too. As far as if anyone's played the game, read the thread. I would think it's clear that people here generally have tried it. I can rehash, it's a fun little game, hampered by pay to win tactics (for leaderboards) and the IAP push seems rather up front to me. As in, every time you die, every couple minutes? If you (whoever) can handle it's drawbacks, or overlook them, it's well worth trying. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
