It had been prophesied centuries ago, and people all over the world of Ylkis were expecting it, ready to one day face the wrath of the Gods. Chaos reigns, and the End of Times seemed inevitable. But the Gods seem to have given us one last chance. The Dungeons have opened and hope has been brought back. It is said that for every Dungeon conquered, the world will live another day, and that humanity may prove its worth to the Gods once again. And so the race against time began. Will you save the world from its impending doom, or will you be the one who brought upon its extinction? ► ► ► ► ► Dark Raider is a new retro Action game brought to you by the same team that gave you Tribemen. Raid hundreds of dungeons, hack through waves of enemies, and defeat powerful bosses in this new take to the Hack & Slash action genre. RANDOM GENERATED MAP The game uses random maps. The player needs to explore new areas and fight against different monsters every time, the dungeon will reset upon the player’s death. So the player will never do the same run twice. MULTIPLE HEROES AVAILABLE As the mainline advances, you can unlock three different heroes. They are Warrior, Mage and Barbarian. Warrior focuses on fast attack speed and quick movement, he is the best choice to deal with fast enemies. Mage focuses on burst damage, she is very squishy but can deal tons of damage. Barbarian focuses on survive, he has higher defense and more health, but he also has the slowest attack speed. DARK THEME ART STYLE Dark Raider has its unique art style. It uses the modern way to create a retro feeling. It also uses TFR-ISO to make the dungeon more immerse. The game does basically encourage grinding as you can level up your character between runs to become OP, until you meet the next boss. But still the gameplay is very fun. Dare I say it, this is almost, almost like a 2D simplifies Dark Souls for iOS due to the boss fights. L.Lawliet Well-Known Member Jun 28, 2011 6,391 398 83 #4 L.Lawliet, May 21, 2020 Ahh this game is either really amazing or really bad. I think it's great but I can't even beat the first area. I'm familiar with dark souls / monster hunter type challenges but man, if this is the easiest place, I have no idea how I can keep going. I think the hardest thing is that you can't dodge out of your attacks. Attacks seem to be slow imo and the enemy (or group of fast enemies) will attack you while you're in the middle of attacking and you can't stop it. It's easy to get mobbed. So the best thing you can do is hit and run which feels a bit boring. Or learn to perfect block but that's pretty impossible for me since that takes incredibly good timing. I tried using charge attack but it's soooo slow that you end up being hit before it ever finishes and if you charge it up far away, you'll end up hitting nothing :\ I think I'd be fine if they removed the stamina and that would make it a bit easier - since you can't even spam dodge. I find the gameplay really fun but being stuck here makes me wonder if it'll just turn into frustration eventually. ramzarules likes this. ironsam80 Well-Known Member Dec 14, 2010 1,143 29 48 #5 ironsam80, May 21, 2020 Exactly my thoughts...! ramzarules Well-Known Member Sep 13, 2014 2,112 128 63 Greece #6 ramzarules, May 21, 2020 I agree with L’s points about needing attack canceling, plus a big issue for me is how the game handles the attack area relating to enemies “above” or “below” you, a problem common in side scrollers if care is not taken. I find it horrible in this game. With the high mobility and no attack cancel, you find yourself all too often attacking for two whole unavoidable seconds into empty air, while your enemy is one milimeter “above” your attack. Both problems were handled expertly on mobile as far back as OMG! pirates(2014) and again two years ago with Wonder Blade. Sadly, the mechanics here are not up to par imo, much less for a brutal difficulty game. I even love the fact that you can’t dodge out of attacks. Instead of just smashing attack and block only when an enemy attacks, I actually have to pay attention to each enemy in the room and decide when to initiate an attack. Even though I got beaten badly on my first attempt, managed to beat the first boss after a few tries. For those wondering, IAPs include the full game unlock, additional characters, and in game currency. Already bought the full game+character pack bundle, but can’t figure out how to change characters. Maybe I have to progress farther. Edit: To switch characters, talk to the old guy that upgrades your character, and at the upgrade screen, click on the bar that says “character”. Talbs Well-Known Member May 1, 2011 2,597 368 83 #9 Talbs, May 22, 2020 Agree with you Jstorm. Not being able to dodge out of attacks (cancel attacks) is fine, imo. You just have to get used to it and plan your attack timing based on the enemies attack patterns. Imo if you’re not doing that then you’re probably just mashing and won’t get to far. I had been playing this game before it got pulled previously so already knew it. When it dropped on the store somehow my progression had been reset. Anyway, that meant I was back to beginning stats. Knowing the combat moves, I was able to clear the first boss straight away without any leveling up. The second boss not so much, ha. But If I can do it, than anyone can. Just get used to the combat in this game. It’s great fun. I do however currently find block to need way too precise timing, so right now I’m all about the dodge and double jump. I’ll try block some more but I really do see it as impractical due to the very, very precise window you need to apply it in, but hopefully that’s just something to get used to, but it seems like it requires wayyyyyy more precision than say Dead Cells. L.Lawliet Well-Known Member Jun 28, 2011 6,391 398 83 #10 L.Lawliet, May 22, 2020 Well I'm definitely not just mashing. The issue is that you're locked into attacks and you're constantly fighting mobs. So you attack one guy, the other guy hops over and hits you. Nothing you can do about it. The best thing you can do is run in circles until one enemy is very far away from other enemies so you don't get mobbed. Not to mention if you're in a room with archers, you attack someone, an arrow comes your way and you can't dodge it. I play pretty tough games like Monster Hunter but it's usually focused vs 1 to 2 strong enemies. I think personally the game should be adjusted since enemies have a huge advantage over you in mobs. It was mentioned earlier in the thread that it's also a disadvantage that you often can't align yourself with the enemy's precise hitbox and hit air instead. It makes it frustrating since there's not much you can do. Obviously you've gotten further but as someone who has played hardcore games plenty, these are my own opinions on it. You can have trouble in this game and not be "mashing". Edit: Darn, had an edit going here but it didn’t post. Anyway, the gist was: if this is just about hit boxes, then my opinion is that in 1 month of playing I’ve never felt an issue with hitboxes. If I’ve missed attacks then it was my mistake/the enemy moved and I wasn’t prepared for that, or I’ve just straight up missed. and if you’ve got an issue with archers in groups, then you need to plan your attacks. Don’t go hitting swords guys across the room while archers are lining up shots at the other end. If you do, then either expect to get hit, or time your dodge out of there, or don’t start your attack until you see them shoot (and miss) first. Yes stamina is a part of it, yes timing your attacks is part of it. This game caters to both group fights and single large boss fights. That’s the game. PLAN AND TIME YOUR ATTACKS. Edit: I would add that attack directions seem to be fixed to certain directions. ie you don’t have a full 360 degree range in attacks. It’s more like a fixed 4 points of the compass, noting you can’t attack directly up or directly down for instance. I did notice this, but didn’t see it as an issue so much because (at least with the starting guy, William), your attack sweeping range seems to be pretty wide, making the hit box thing even more not an issue imo. Walking/running direction of your character is also not a smooth 360 but at least smoother than the attack directions. I just figured that was part of the game. It fits with the art style even, ie kind of retro. Again don’t have an issue with that. imo, this game doesn’t need any adjustment (apart from the blocking, I’ll concede that so far). But that’s just IMO, and who am I, I’ve only been playing the game for well over a month now. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
