This game has better, party based combat and more strategy. MD has more content, classes to choose from when making your character, and a basic storyline for each group of quests. I personally like this game better, but it depends on your interests.
I have to agree with the developers here. The maths behind the game are identical to the original in terms of dice roll mathematics going on in the background. Honestly what difference does it make if you see them or not? Personally I don't want to have to sit and wait while some dice bounce around before my action is taken. Good on you devs, I'm with you on this one. If the game is THE SAME mechanically why do you need dice? What next? How about we sell figures so you can place them on your iPad and use them to move? You don't need that stuff. Just like you don't need to worry about losing pieces or setting up the board. It's BETTER this way. Rant over.
Really enjoying the game btw. While it is very similar to Hero Quest I think there are enough differences to the gameplay to make litigation a non-concern. The cover art on the other hand... Awesome job on this game.
You realize there are options for turning things like this on and off. Why not put it in and give us choice? Same goes for game controls, voice overs, subtitles. And uh, you realize that there is quite the market for figures used interactively on the iPad, right? . Why can't we enjoy the rolling of dice on a game? You are trying to force it as a fact, it may be better for you, but if done well it's not better for us. Why not just take away animations? Pieces? Why not just have 1s and 0s? We technically don't need anything, right? That argument is silly, isn't it? So is the digging in of the heels against those of us that would like to relive the joy of rolling dice. The Talisman team has embraced it, and I think it's really nice. I don't see this completely digital world of not having it in AT ALL. Why not just put in a mild version and leave it at that? Then let us make the choice as to what we do or don't want. Easy peasy
Man the whole style of the game, the font, the door art, the character art and loads of other stuff. I will agree the gameplay is different, but man so much of that artwork is a direct copy. I can't say that those things aren't appealing to me because, well that's the whole point isn't it? It's preying on he nostalgia factor Hence why dice rolls are awesome Seriously, D&D is defined by its dice, the D10, 20. Rolling dice is the heart and soul of these games. Truly for many of us, not ALL but a large many of us, throwing the dice away is taking away a very important part of the experience.
It works better if everyone speaks for themselves. If many people different people say, "I would like this game better with simulated bouncing dice," then that's worth considering. If one person says, "Many of us would like this game better with simulated bouncing dice," well, people are going to question whether that's really true. The only way to find out is for them to say it for themselves.
There has been people asking for dice, like me, andsoitgoes and millions more* bring on the dice. I'm going to take to rolling physical dice across my iPad every time I play this game in the hope they will magically appear in my game * Spoiler millions more might be a slight lie
Thanks for the reply. I took the cheapskate route and purchased the iPhone version which looks OK on my iPad3. Really enjoying the game so far. Am a bit puzzled why you haven't produced a universal version, but I guess you know best!
Coming from someone that still plays Hero's Quest with people - I would be pretty ticked off if the dev caved in on a cosmetic option instead of adding more content. The best part about this is that I don't have to sit around and roll the dice and I can play by myself. While I do admit that it would be a nice feature to have in the future and it worked well on the Norse mythology steam punk game crescent moon put out, I would much rather have additional content. Because as of this time, there is no point in playing the game again.
That's my kind of game and I'd like to give this a shot but it says that it doesn't run on iPod 4th gen (at least until next patch). Anyone ran it successfully on an iPhone 4 plain, non GS?
I bought both versions, never played heroquest, this is fun. I would also like to see dice rolls. I know this puts me in the rare group not playing this on nostalgia, but nevertheless, I'm enjoying it. Dice rolls would add some nice flavor, but even without them it's still pretty good. Honestly bought it with apprehension after might dungeons disappointed, and only bought it because I wanted to have it in case it got removed. So it actually having gameplay was a nice surprise, and I'm looking forward to talisman prologue, I've heard a lot of good things about it.
I just bought it and it crashes right after the load screen. I use an ipad 1 ios 5.1.1. anyone else with this system have any issues I think the game looks great. I can't wait to play it. I wish Mighty Dungeons had a similar style for some tactical combat.
IPad1 and IPod4 crashes have been fixed and an update has been sent to apple which will take some days to review. In the meantime if you send us an email (info at brainseal dot com) we can send you the updated version via TESTFLIGHT.
Man, I loved HeroQuest back then. I've just sold my Master Edition + expensions a while ago and was surprised how much money I got for it. Will pick this up as soon as the update for iPod Touch 4G is out.
Gamecenter statistics says 1200 people played this game. That's really sad, good games receive no audience modern days.
Have you tried promoting Dark Quest to the Warhammer crowd on their forums? They should be interested if they get to know about it...
