Ok, if your not sure about what this game is all about .... Is it Like Heroes Quest? Yes, this is 100% turn-based, squad tactics, dungeon crawling boardgame. Is it Exactly like Heroes Quest? No, there are a few differences, most favorable, some not. Compelling RPG Storyline? Not really, But do we need one for a boardgame? Pro's: Polished presentation Nice (fairly static) pixel art Great ambient sounds/background music Con's: Annoying sound effects (door, footsteps, etc.) The "random events" (fate rolls) that occur add little to the experience except frustration. Seems like a last minute add-in to balance the game, and while it may do so, its does it at the expense of fun. The graphic perspective, top-down (ala gauntlet) is good but the doors/torches, have odd perspectives and ruin the effect The town graphics are low-fi and obviously scaled on the iPad version; shouldn't call it "HD" if its only partially true. Needs some sort of feedback that shows more than just the outcome of combat (not necessarily dice, but something.) Bottom line: Despite some annoyances, this is the best HQ-inspired entry to date.
I'm aware that some have problem with game difficulty , fear not , game isn't that hard if you utilize a bit of magic and tight space advantage ( nothing perverted here, move on ). First, explore as much as you want around dungeons, even though there is limited number of turns, I guarantee they are more than enough to explore the whole dungeon and still have time to beat all enemies. Turn off auto following, you are better with controlling all character movement utilizing them for much more meaningful things than AI. Always have dwarf in the front when exploring, so he can detect and disable traps quickly; Never ever put wizard in front row or do exploring of space you don't know from previous games with him , he will get slaughtered like lamb he is by sudden enemies really quickly. If there is many enemies you can either : 1. Send dwarf in front and use his Titan shield ability so he becomes immune to all attacks ( except magic ) , flank up enemies with barbarian while they focus on dwarf and support them both with wizard.Notice : even though dwarf has some magic resistance, if there are many ranged enemies around, he will get slaughter if you're too slow with releasing them all of misery to be alive. 2.Think like Leonidas in movie 300 ; Utilize tight corridors/ space and put either barbarian or dwarf in front, or both .Once enemies start to clutter into corridor , just use lightning spell, it will chain up on all nearby enemies and kill them in 1-2 turns. 3. Rambo tactic for most brave / foolish players out there ; Buy some health potions for barbarian , equip him with a flail, rush into rooms with him , hope for the best , support him with other weaklings/ party members ( this will obviously work only at lower dungeon levels ) Merlin , I mean wizard , is hands down the most useful member of party. Buy him lightning spell as soon as you can , chain ability is AMAZING.Other useful magic is charm and firewall.Make that old pervert use charm often if you get overwhelmed at close range by enemies, cast it on enemy with highest health points and let him make havoc and take hits instead your party.Use wall of fire / firewall / whatever is called if you know that huge group of enemies is at other side, don't be shy to loose 6-7 moves to make firewall that is 2-3 spaces long, it's funny to see boss stepping on that and getting insta killed. Dwarf - as already mentioned, always keep him at front , use his Titan shield ability. As he has some magic resistance he is prime candidate for luring huge group of enemies into your devios trap Barbarian - he can hack and slash/ deal high damage .And has lots of health which gets depleted really fast with ranged enemies.Conan is good for making massacres at lower levels, but as more and more ranged enemies get introduced later on, he becomes as useful as a pedal powered wheelchair. Random tip : don't open all gates if they lead to same room, only enemies you have revealed will attack you, this way you can take off some heat of bigger massacres, I mean battles ; remember - what you don't see can't hurt you, or is it other way around... SHORT version for lazy people : dwarf always in front, Titan ability good, ranged attackers very bad, dispose of them ASAP.Use Charm and lightning often to make mess or delay enemies, use firewall on several tiles, retreat and watch enemies die in blazing fire.Utilize tight space and corridors to your advantage.Never trust wizards who ask you to touch dead man skulls.Sign a petition so characters can finally get drunk in game.
I'm enjoying it so far. Was getting crushed due to some poor purchases early on so started over and did much better the second try. Love the strategy required to win vice being able to bash through stuff. The second try I bought blind early instead of the barbarian double attack (never did figure out how to make that work anyway). Dramatic reduction in damage when you blind the front guy so he can't hurt you. Then I only took damage after killing the blind guy and more were left. Next got charm so bad guys will hit each other and then I blind the last guy standing. That tactic got me through the level I was stuck on. One thing to consider - please add an "are you sure" dialog before you delete your save. Too easy to blow away your safe right now. Anyway - fun game!
Yes, using flail was a bit confusing for me also.If you have multiple enemies on your sides it's very useful though.Once you press flail icon, you will get select targets menu, after that press once on every enemy that is 1 space away from you and he will perform attack.
Afaik iCloud doesn't work that way anyway. Since they are technically separate games, not a universal app, Apple does not allow them to share data through iCloud, Gamecenter or any of their cloud services. One of the many reasons devs need to stop doing this and just make universal apps unless they have something completely unique in mind for the different devices.
Need to improve the game saving mechanic. Not looking or anything cheesy but would like to be able to stop playing halfway through a map and the come back later to finish it up. Was well into a level when I had to put down the iPad for dinner. Did some web browsing and such so the game had to be swapped out of memory. When I went back in later I had to start the level over again. Not cool...
Show commitment and play through each mission without stopping, is what some developers might say. I am not the developer. I also think it is a rookie design choice...
There are certain things you expect in an iOS game and this is one of them. I'm sure it is pretty easy to implement since pretty much every other iOS game does it.
Quite possibly the worst "strategy" game in the App Store. It doesn't even appear to be finished. How does Apple let crap like this slip through?
Only 13 posts and you've now dissed three great games (others being Elder Signs and Plague). Maybe it's not the games but your outlook?
Dark Quest HD had been updated. Installed size: 162MB I can't tell what has been changed as I had not played too much Dark Quest HD when it was first released. The most significant change I noticed was that the other characters I found in the dungeon are now be directly controlled by me instead of by AI. This got my wizard killed quickly, followed by my barbarian two rounds later. Did the difficulty increase?
Did you read the update notes? There was a huge list of changes. The manual control for your team was actually included in one of the last builds - dev just made it the default setting with this build. That change shouldn't affect the level of difficulty - it's supposed to give you more control so your mage and dwarf don't go where you don't want them to.
The mage seemed to survive longer when he did not go where I wanted him to... Oh my, is this the beginning of Skynet? Is the AI in Dark Quest HD self aware and can play better than humans? Today, Dark Quest HD mages, tomorrow, the drones...
New content with today's update! The content is 2 new levels and new weapons among other stuff. I'm wondering though how you get to the new levels. I beat the game and then deleted it since the game doesn't save the state after winning (just keeps the save from the entrance of the final level). I figured the Dev wouldn't have the levels follow since the game's story came to an end and because of the save, you'd have to replay the last (and hardest) level again to get to new levels. I figured new ones would be an option in the menu, but I don't see anything. I also just lost the state of my new game (checking it out to see any other changes), being in the middle of level 1. That really needs to be fixed - should not have to restart a level if the app gets closed by the system or user. Anyone see the new levels? [update] Wow, must have missed this in the last update because I never saw the town - all equipment and spells are now 1 use items. No more perm stuff. Now basically everything is a consumable. Don't like that at all because I don't know what's going to be in a level. I also just looked at the update notes again and saw the new levels are supposedly at "third and fourth". Not sure if that means they were added or if they replaced the previous ones. Sounds like they replaced. Well matters little now as I don't think I'll be playing with the item changes.
I don't see any avaliable IAPs in game , but this definetly looks like a step in making a game freemium in near future. It was one of my favourites dungeon crawlers, but after latest update and making all items and magic 1 use only is a terrible decision, deleted the game. One more game I had high hopes for down the binary drain....
