The darkness and the things that populate it are scary, but I feel the need to conquer that fear so that I can make it through the stage and see what's coming next. This is simply a brilliant game. Habakuk Well-Known Member Dec 11, 2008 4,779 9 38 Vienna, Austria http://rossau.wordpress.com #14 Habakuk, Mar 20, 2015 I don't understand as well all those heavy and stinky (no more revenue for two or three days by ONE referrer link?!) complaints about apps going free for a limited time. It's one of the best (& cheapest & easiest) methods for devs to make apps & games more popular. It's a totally legal toolcommon since more than five years and it just works. And getting some grade by Apple is the best for devs. Yes. Such sales may (not MUST) be a sign that an app didn't sell well enough. And sometimes apps are going premium > freemium this way but not ALWAYS. All those claims like : "Shit. But I WANT to pay for this! Because I have too much money!" or "Since it's free now it MUST be crap" are insane imho. If you want to help devs buy it (when the sale is over) for another account(s) it's easy like that. First world problems anyway. It's really not YOUR (user) problem what price a dev calls. It's nice (and sometimes useful) that there are many devs present in the TA forums but I never felt that I have to worry about themeven if they're making good games and sales. Get and enjoy Dark Echo, it's a highly recommended and unique game. One of the best freebies in the last days and weeks! Dev made the game free, it rocketed through the charts and got nice spikes in sales after getting back to paid. Even Eli defended these "free campaigns" a few years ago (I remembered 'cause we had a quarrel about that) - but it is quite different today and that's what Eli is saying in his front page article. Devs get nothing in return, except that the people might remeber their name at next release. But that's a rather fragile guessing. As Apple's game of the week, it will be downloaded by millions. Wonder who's left to buy it, after that? Yeah, maybe there will be a few sales - but I doubt it will make millions. But I am sure you have backup and evidence for your claims above and can prove that's a "best" method? Go on, I am really interested to see your proof. drelbs Well-Known Member Jun 25, 2009 11,200 7 38 #17 drelbs, Mar 20, 2015 It used to be - for some time now the App Store resets an apps rankings when it switches from free to paid. One way around that is Starbuck's Pick of the Week, which just gives out codes. I'm guessing Apple's App of the Week is immune from this effect as well. (And probably gets them slotted into various featured lists in the future...) If I was a dev, I'd be thrilled. This could easily build up a good reputation for them which could carry into sales of their future apps. Visibility is a HUGE factor in app sales these days, and RAC7 just got a healthy dose if it for the cost of one week's revenue from Dark Echo. While the game is polished, it's also based on, at least from I played, a single gimmick; granted I lost complete interest at level XI. The gimmick itself is interesting but the actual game didn't give me any reason to connect with it and by the time I'd reached level XI the stealth-tapping parts simply slowed down the game to a crawl. I think a side-scrolling platformer would have both showcased the sound mechanic better and allowed me to connect with the world better (Imagine playing the first level of Mario like this!). I also have very little patients for bite-sized levels because, again, it just disconnects me from the the character and game world; give me something meaty to explore, not thirty second glorified tutorial levels. Perhaps it opens up eventually, and I'd honestly like to know, but I personally lost interest before I could get there. It's fair to note that I hate guided toutorials of any length, structure or sort.
