Halfway through the game now, stupid system b.t.w., having to pay for injuries, suppose the game would be done in half an hour without it. Oh and where is all the humour people keep going on about in this game? Unless Dave saying "Oh, I think I broke my bum." Jump, after, jump, after jump is it. I mean how many sayings are there of Dave? 3-4? His one liners repetoire is very limited and has about as much depth as this game.
Gee, such a change in opinion. So the game was great until I lowered the price (I know I'm the only dev to ever have done this). I've already had this discussion here so I'll just say if you want a refund send me a pm.
The game was great for the first ten minutes, then a few games later still good, untill you realise the games longevity has been extended with that hopeless crash/injuries system and that Dave one liners are very few. How many are there, not counting the OOh's and Ow's? Then you get the kick in the head and find the £1.19 game you paid for is now a 0.59p one. I don't want my money back, just feel a bit of a sucker.
OMG!!! Poor you! I can't imagine the pain and hardship you've experienced with this! You must be the only one this has ever happened to! I mean... that ruthless developer just out to rip off all and sundry with their nefarious business tactics. Heaven forbid he might just be doing to increase awareness of a game that's taken him so long to develop and test, purely based on the belief that his product is worth a lot more. Sheesh... heads up... price drops happen ALL the time and for usually very good reasons. Before you go post something else to show yourself up, I would suggest looking around the forums for how many people actually winge about price cuts...
WTH is that supposed to mean? If you care to read my post, the price reduction is not my only issue with this game. You seem to have skipped over those. The fact I refused a refund should tell you that. The point of my frustration in the price drop, is the lack of the dev's belief he can make this game worthy of £1+. My first two posts on this game were after playing for half an hour. Care to comment on the issues with the game I raised, instead of getting on your high horse about price reductions. If not, move along please.
I will. There are plenty of different phrases in the game. You can only load so many into an iPhone game without overloading the RAM or possibly sacrificing performance so I am limited on how many I can add. The injuries...so the game is "prolonged" because you have to pay for injuries? Then I guess games like Quake are artificially prolonged because of all the bad guys that might kill you. Should they have made it so you can just walk through the levels with no resistance? You don't like the game...okay we get it. Thankfully for me most people seem to. Thank you for your input.
Why so defensive? I understand that this is your game. You've spent hours creating it and making it the best that you possibly can. However, either you want feedback or you don't. You can't ask for feedback and expect that you're only going to hear positive stuff. You're kidding yourself if you don't think that there are people out there that have a negative opinion. I think that jmc007 has made his opinion pretty clear. He's said that the game is too short. He's said that the phrases that Dave says in-game are repetitive. Either you can do something to fix this, or you can't. There's no need to berate him for having a negative opinion. If you expect people to play this game for more than 30 minutes, then I would think that these are comments that you may want to take to heart to try to improve your game in the future. When you have a sale 10 days after the release of a game, you're going to piss off some people. If you're not prepared to accept a few negative reviews/comments from those early adopters, then you probably shouldn't have a sale. I don't see the value in coming in here and publicly pointing out the people that are obviously upset that you decided reduce your price.
i think schplurg has done a great job addressing negative feedback. i'm not a dev but i know if i'd spent several months creating a game it would be pretty hard to hear negative comments, not to mention rude ones that call my hard work "stupid". it's one thing to critique a game, it's another to be an a**hole about it. most of the negative comments i've read have been constructive. i think the problem isn't with the negative comments, it's in the delivery. also, quit whining about pricing people! try buying a game for any other phone besides an iphone and you'll be paying at least $7 or $8 for a crappy, generic game.
This is probably why most developers don't take the time to interact with the public on a normal basis. If I felt like I constantly had to defend myself, I probably wouldn't either. It's 99 cents people (or 1.99/2.99, depending on when you got it). You're probably drinking a Starbucks, that cost more than that, while you're sitting here arguing about it. There's a way to give feedback to the developer and a way not to. IMHO, the feedback below could have been given in a much more useful manner: Halfway through the game now, stupid system b.t.w., having to pay for injuries, suppose the game would be done in half an hour without it.
My point, though, is that schplurg could have accepted the criticism and moved on. Instead, schplurg chose to multiquote jmc007, bringing all of his negative comments together. Then jmc007 got defensive, and rightly so. Had schplurg accepted the criticism or simply moved on without replying, then jmc007 probably would not have felt the need to defend himself and like would not have continued his negative posting. The posts got less constructive at this point. Seems to me that schplurg brought some of this on himself. It was kind of obvious that jmc007 was not happy. No need to instigate it any further. Choose your battles. And, as I mentioned before, a sale within the first 10 days is always going to get a negative reaction from people who paid full price up front. Some will say that that is the price you pay to be an early adopter. I would say that it's a situation that could have been avoided with a little more careful planning by the developer. If ever, I think that the best time for a developer to have a sale is right at introduction of a new game. It should be a reward for those that choose to check out the game early. Those buyers are likely the ones that will provide reviews and feedback that is invaluable to the dev for future sales and game updates. It also makes it more acceptable to have another sale later on, especially so soon to the release of the game. It just seems to me that a lot of these devs have it backwards and it causes a lot of ill will towards the devs.
+1 It should be constructive criticism not just I hate this I hate that and this is stupid. Give your opinion of the matter and suggest something that you think will help
I agree. However, not everybody in the world is going to be that considerate. And, in this case, the person in question is obviously upset at the fact that the sale happened right after he paid full price. Why make it worse by continuing in a dialog?
That I can agree with. Sometimes you have to let people vent and just be confident in the fact that you've put out a good product. There will always be people that complain about everything. It's human nature.
I'd have to agree that negative feedback is great as long as it's constructive -- how else is a developer to improve his stuff? But the delivery here has been ... lacking, to put it very charitably. There's really no need to go all douchey when discussing aspects of the game you don't like. Just state your opinion in plain old terms and leave the barbs out of it. "I didn't really like [aspect X] because [reason Y]" is a lot more helpful than "[aspect x] is stupid", and the high horse comment was simply uncalled for. Save that sort of stuff for YouTube.

I don't mind criticism. You will see in this thread where I was very neutral and cool about any criticism. But when someone goes on and on and steps over the border into rudeness, and who has an obvious problem with the price change and has changed their entire opinion of the game minutes after they complain about the new price, it gets a bit irritating. I am human. And I don't think I was rude at all. Just direct. I even offered a refund. On that note, I am going to be updating the game and I already have received some good ideas here in the thread. Camera views, making it easier to get to practice mode, and a few others. I'm listening if you guys have more ideas.
woot! addicted to this game since i picked it up when it first came out. i haven't read through all the 500 posts but i welcome any additions or cleanup. I'm hoping for a few more levels. keep up the good work. will keep ideas in mind and pass them along if i think of them while playing.
