Dave is an exciting guy! My 13 year old nephew told me I should make Dave do tricks. I dunno, Dave isn't really the greatest rider in the world. I mean he can barely even jump without killing himself. Tricks? Maybe I can throw in 1 or 2 tricks that would be "appropriate for Dave". Maybe even invent some new ones haha. How about the "Oh crap! I'm about to crash really bad" bail out maneuver? Or the "Crash Test Dummy Flip"?
New iPad 2 image. Yes it is Universal, I know someone is going to ask again I also replaced some of the older images on the first page of this thread, as well as adding a few to the website as well. Yes, I know I need a new website lol. Vegas Casino jump (reminiscent of a certain Caesars Palace jump by Evel Knievel). There is still a lot of construction going on, but just thought you all needed something else to look at besides that "other" jump. Trees sway in the wind, water fountains, shadowing (low quality shadows in this image). This jump actually looks a lot different/better now than it does here in this image. It's more dangerous than it looks...Dave can get in a lot of trouble here. One thing you don't see is that there are actually not just one ramp, but three! They point in different directions and Dave can choose which one to use. There are three different jumps here that he needs to complete. One may actually require him to crash I am working on a video, I promoise!!!
This looks like a massive step forward. I thought the first one was a fun distraction for a few days, but this will be a must-have title with the kind of polish you're giving it. Keep up the good work, we're counting on you! Spoiler No pressure, of course.
Spoiler I can handle the pressure! This game is definitely more of a full game than the first. In fact, when I began building the first game I only intended on it having half the jumps that it does (dumb idea!). As a few potential publishers got involved and delayed things, I just kept building more jumps. I added Injury Mode last almost as an afterthought, strangely enough. It's actually the most popular game mode by far. Thanks for the comments! EDIT: One more thing....I am going to build the game in such a way that additional jumps will be easy for me to add. There will be no IAP in this game. If you buy the game, you get THE GAME!
Thank you! Always great to hear when someone likes the game. I still read the App Store reviews. They crack me up sometimes. Still looking for a final title for the game too!
One other thing...Dave 2 will be "enhanced" for the upcoming iPhone 5. For now it will run the same enhancements as the iPad 2. The iPhone 4 isn't capable of running everything that the iPad 2 can. Things like extra people, better looking trees and other objects, etc. Nothing affecting game play. The differences really are minor. Even the 3GS outperforms the iPhone 4 - so to speak - thanks to its smaller screen resolution of course. It also will display most of the enhancements. Actually, the 4th gen devices are the only ones not capable of handling all the extra goodies. Don't worry, it still looks awesome!!! And, as time goes on we will try and optimize the game so we can jam everything we can into the final product. I'll post some comparison images when I get some free time.
Speaking of "going", Dave and I are going to the drag races on Sunday at Infineon Speedway. Anybody else here going (longshot I'm sure)? Dave wanted to check out a few stunt ideas. Hmmmm....anybody there interested in a REAL iOS drag racing game?
I learned something about the iPhones microphone last Sunday at the drag races: it can't handle an 8,000+ horsepower, nitro burning engine at 15 feet. I swallowed some unburned nitro while trying to record John Forces funny car, and a bunch of others. If you ever get a chance to go to a drag race, do it. There's nothing quite like feeling the ground (and your brain) shake violently from the incredible power these beasts produce at the starting line. I recorded the video below with a Flip cam. You can't tell from the video but the sound wave that hits you as the cars pass by feels like someone punched you in the stomach. The entire grandstand shakes. Notice that most spectators are wearing ear protection even from this distance. Can you say AWESOME!!! I ask again...would anyone be interested in a REAL drag racing iOS game? Subscribe to the TouchArcade YouTube channel I love the smell of nitro in the morning!
My apologies if this has been suggested already (I haven't read the whole thread) but what about Dave drag racing on his motorcycle? And yes, a drag racing game would rock! I am biased though, I'm a huge drag racing fan. I also love the smell of Nitro in the morning!
OH YEAH I'd be interested in a drag racing game. Any ideas as to how it would work or what have you got in mind?
I dunno about Dave drag racing his bike. I know he's brave enough to do it, but I'm not sure anybody else would be daring enough to race him. Dave has a way of causing mayhem wherever he goes
I have ideas Anyways, back to Dave. Not really much new to report other than progress is being made. Release date is totally up in the air right now - meaning, I have no clue.
Someday Working on a jump now where Dave must race on a city street against oncoming traffic in order to get to his next jump. There are two ways to look at this jump: #1 How can I complete the jump? You can ride on the sidewalks, jump up onto buildings, avoid cars and many other obstacles. #2 How can I mess up Dave? You can crash all over the place, crash into, jump into and fall off of buildings, get hit (often repeatedly) by cars and crash into many other obstacles. You can also grab some goodies if you can figure out how to get them! This is a hilarious level and will definitely make it into the first video (whenever that is).
