Do you think this game maybe has a chance of coming out in June? I am really really really getting excited for this game, seriously I can't wait!
I'm not guess-timating any release dates for now. Soooon, I swear!!! Here is a teaser though. This is one of the Movie Stunts in the game. In this scene you are tasked with putting a stop to this Illegal Fireworks Flea Market (they're more like weapons I'd say). You get chased by cops along the way while the director is yelling at you I won't share any pics of the end result of this stunt, but I will say that these fireworks DO WORK, and they are unlike any you've ever seen, I guarantee it! The more you blow up the more points you get! It's hard for me to stop playing this level because it is SO INSANE!!! It's a beautiful thing to see! I wish I could show all of you but I need to keep some secrets! Rocket launchers, a Polaris firework missile with over a dozen other rockets attached to it (It's called the "F-Bomb", the huge missile towards the rear), many many cases of black powder, mortars, a ton of explosiveness! Total chaos! One of the last things I need to do is change the big buttons you see - I have new smaller and better looking ones ones but I've been lazy. Oh ya, try not the hit the poor camera and sound crew, they're just doing their jobs. Back to work!
Sweet! Can't wait to ram Dave into fireworks and camera men! Also is the campaign going to still have the money and if it's lost you restart?
Good question! I don't want to force players to restart a tour due to lack of cash like in the old game. I may add an additional optional tour mode though - like a "realistic mode" - where you can lose all your money. Not sure yet. This would have it's own leader board and separate money from the rest of the game. I designed the "movie stuntman" levels (as well as the golf, bowling, and some "Injury" or destruction jumps where Dave gets paid to crash) so that a player can make more money if they get too low. You can't lose money in these levels. So I could allow the player to go totally broke and they can earn more cash this way. Or maybe the player can go into debt and end up with negative money To be honest, I'm still tweaking the way the money works in the game. It's easy for me to alter and I've been wrestling with a final decision for quite some time - even during these final days. If I allow players to keep retrying a jump with no penalty until they complete it, it seems a bit too easy. However letting people lose all their cash can be a bummer as well. Perhaps I should ask what you all would prefer? Games like Angry Birds, where you keep replaying a level with no penalty, is kind of boring, at least to me. Another aspect of the game is Dave's Mobile Trauma Unit. It's a big truck Dave can earn so that he can save money on his injuries. In real life Dave would still need to pay his own doctors, but in Dave's world, not a problem Like I said, this is a great question, as it has been an issue since Day 1. Every time I decide on one method, I soon change it a little to something else. Sorry if this is a long-winded answer. Most likely, players will be able to lose money, but earn more by doing these other levels where you can't lose money (golf, movies etc). These levels will only be available if a player gets below a certain cash level, otherwise people could just play these repeatedly until they are billionaires I hope this makes sense! Any questions or suggestions are welcome, as always! ETA: Dude...(the non-gender form of "dude") the fireworks are #$%@& awesome!!! That is one fun level!
I wouldn't mind if it's the same because when the money is running low and your about to start a jump, you get this really tense feeling and when you land it it's so much more of a success. plus when I restarted the tour mode after crashing and not feeling successful I learned to master the beginner levels and get more precision bonus money. Although I like the idea of crashing level a lot more because if you run low on money you get excited to crash and I might try to lose money to get to the crazy crashing levels. Either way I think it would be a fantastic game and I would buy it anyway. Keep up the good work!
I should mention that each "crashing level" is also part of the tour at some point. In the first game, the level called "House Of Pain" would be such a level. Every so often the player will encounter one of these - it's a nice break from the stress of needing to land a jump. "Cool! I get to crash for cash!!!" Some of these could also be levels Dave can return to if cash is needed, such as the movie stunts or the golf game. I agree that the anxiety of needing to land a jump is a cool part of the game, and it leads to more satisfaction when you succeed. I want that to be a part of the game still, but making players start over might be a big bummer, especially since the tours are much longer than before. I used to get emails from people wanting an IAP to unlock Injury mode because they couldn't complete the main tour and were frustrated. One thing that may help is that injuries aren't as costly as in the original. Once you land several jumps, you should have enough money to crash a whole lot more before getting too low. I come from a time when if you lost a game in the arcade, the game was over By the way, are people still using Game Center for high scores and achievements, or is there another more preferred method for that? And thanks for the feedback!
I guess one pic of some of the fireworks going off is okay Even the buildings aren't safe from Dave! This image is from an iPad 3. I have anti-aliasing turned off, but you can turn it on in the options menu - I figured I'd give people that option. If you do it right, you can detonate pretty much every item you see here.
Just thought I'd mention that the website has been updated. This thread is still the place to be for the most recent news, and I don't think there is anything there that hasn't been posted here at TA. I fixed the "contact" page there though, so if anyone wants to send me an email, feel free! I had to design Dave's police uniform yesterday for his Movie Stunts. The movie is called "Uzi-Cop 2", so he needed the outfit, plus an Uzi on his hip
Well there are a few parts where the camera switches from 1st person while Dave is in the air, then back to 1st person before he lands and continues riding, and one of those is a slo-mo camera view. It's in one of the videos actually, where Dave jumps through an explosion in the wall of a brick building. I'm not sure if that's what you mean though. Here's a screen shot of it...
I thought about making the camera swing around in a kind of "Matrix Style", but I also thought people might not want to see it every single time they run the level. The explosion looks kinda cool in slow mo.
No I was just screwing around with the idea. If I add it to the game it will probably be a timed run, or maybe against another bike. I could pre-record a few of my own laps and have players race against it. Like a ghost bike. It actually works really well so maybe I'll add it. I actually need one more stunt/jump to complete the game. Don't worry though, at this point I can design a stunt very quickly. It's the other stuff in the game that I'm trying to bug-squash that takes time. It's pretty fun though, maybe if I have time I can make a vid.
