Just filling in space on this previously deleted post. I am uploading a new game play video right now. Will stick it in the next post.
NEW VIDEO!!!!! This is an older level with some new stuff! The final jump in the vid isn't complete, and I chose to bail off the bike before landing it to show how that works. Notice the bike still lands safely LOL! I wish the video quality was a lot better. The textures aren't too sharp either as this level was designed back when I thought the game would run on older devices like the 3G. Subscribe to the TouchArcade YouTube channel This level comes near the beginning of the game. You don't have much money so your only choice is to set up a jump on city streets, without a permit from the city. Uh oh! Dave doesn't like to break the law so his manager withheld that bit of info from him. You need to race through traffic and get to the jump site before the cops can stop you! This video shows Dave taking an alternate route on top of a building and a semi-truck trailer. A new element to the game is the ability to jump onto pretty much any surface you can reach, and off of it provided the drop isn't too far, otherwise you will crash. Many jumps already have the ability to jump onto stuff, however, in my attempt to make each level more "open", I didn't want to limit the player to only a few surfaces. I have finally achieved this. With the open style of the levels, some of them anyways, the player can actually get to places where he/she really shouldn't, so you do so at your own risk! I figured what the heck, if you wanna see what's on the other side of that wall then go for it! This video shows the updated Dave model, as well as the engine sounds which still need to be tweaked a lot, most notably the strange looping engine sound near the end. I'm very excited to be able to add more variety to the levels. The video was made and uploaded using the in-game instant replay system. Hope you like it!
Daredevil Dave's Facebook Page I have brought Dave's Facebook page back to life (I hate FB) and will be posting there regularly. It will be a main source of information on the games status and pending release. I will continue to post here too. Toucharcade is still my home. I'm not seeing a lot of interest here, which is understandable since this game has been taking so long to complete. There are a bunch of new pictures there if you guys wanna check em out. Actually, here are most of them, why make you go there to see em?! These screenshots all feature the new and improved Dave model. Here is Dave playing Motorcycle Golf. Movie Stunt: Rings Of Fire is back, but this time missing the jump can cause some flaming destruction down below! Bailing off the bike in mid-air. This works well on the golf course and for other "precision crashing" stunts. Dave crashing into my Toyota truck. Looks painful! Bigfoot!
Hey! Thanks for the input! It really helps keep me motivated. I just played the first complete tour all the way through. 30 jumps/stunts so far, probably about 35 - 40 when it's done (first tour only). I am making several tours, so there will be a lot of game play. There should be 3 tours and at least 100 stunts in total when the game is released. Daredevil Dave #1 only had 18 jumps! Plus I need to get Injury Mode working.
Can't wait for you to finally finish this, feels like I've been reading the progress for a couple of years now
Aw you beat me to it! It's been longer than a couple though. Should be done by the end of March. It's been a tough few years. Real life sucks sometimes! I'm very happy with how the game has turned out. I'm really putting everything I have into it. Won't be too much longer
Earn injury, bike and property damage and rack up the cash! I thought of doing more of this in the first game but the iphones back then couldn't handle all the moving objects. The hay bales are flammable so if you get one burning (via exploding barrel) it will start a chain reaction that blows up the taco stand at the end. Pics are from the iPad 2 - game runs great on it!
Now that you've added this.... I'm sold! Your graphics look great. And thanks for not making me go to FB to see them! Glad to hear that TA is still home. How are you doing on a release date? (Still in March?) Universal? Iap's? Cost? Etc etc.....
Thank you! Yes, TA is still home. I can't stay away. I'm really really anti-FB but I'm trying to get the word out so... Universal - of course! I didn't realize that was a concern anymore, but heck ya, it's awesome on the iPads. Runs great on iPad 2 and 3, and iPhone 5. Players can tweak the real time lighting and shadows, antaliasing and other stuff to their liking. There will be optimized default settings for each device but people will be free to change them. I'm not planning on any IAP, definitely no timers or coins to buy. None of that sneaky stuff. At release you will get the full game for whatever the price is, and there will be a lot of content. I don't know if any major content additions will be free or what...I'm so busy building I've been putting off thinking about all that stuff. For Dave #1 people asked me to make Injury Mode an IAP because it was difficult to unlock, so this time it will be available immediately...I think. It is, in a lot of ways, the best part of the game, so if it needs to be unlocked it will be easy to do. I want people to have fun! I don't know about price yet but it will be cheap, especially at launch time. My goal is a March release date. I've hit some snags recently with new iOS versions and stuff like that. I'm always fighting this stuff, it's never smooth! If the beta testers don't think it's too hard and don't find any major issues then March should be doable. I'm not promising, but I'm anxious to finish it and see how it goes! I can't wait any longer either. It will be tight, but I'm 90% sure it'll be in March. So now we have Skeeball, golf, bowling, and a crapload of other stunts and jumps. I thought about making Skeeball a free preview download before the game is complete, but that would take too much time out of the main project. Let's just get 'er done! Thanks for the feedback! I don't get much of it these days - the more I hear from you all, the more excited and motivated I get!
It's coming soon I'm working practically every waking moment on it. I don't have any cool new stuff to show off really so I haven't posted any images. I've completed Dave's Showroom, which is where you can look at all the trophies you've won, otherwise known as achievements. This is actually really cool and is no ordinary "achievements list". It's a room you can walk around in and admire some really awesome trophies, all 3D. They are arranged in cabinets along the walls. There are other items in there too, like your bikes, and some posters on the walls. These are detailed trophies that represent what you had to do to win them. If you break enough bones you get a plaque with a couple broken bones on it. If you get run over by a police car you get an appropriately designed trophy. Some are funny. I'd show you guys but I need to leave some things for you to discover for yourselves. Actually I'll attach a picture to this post. I just realized I could do this - it's a lot easier than uploading it to my website first. This is an earlier picture of the showroom but you get the idea. You can walk around freely, or just tap any item in the room to get a closeup view of it. The hand-drawn picture on the wall is the first sketch I ever made of Dave.
Ha! Love the trophy room and the ideas for the different trophies. I'm thinking that the broken bones trophy is one I'll definitely be winning. Great stuff! Will wait patiently for the release..... well, maybe not that patiently
Yesterday I finished the tutorial level which teaches players how to use the throttle accurately and control the bike. As in the old game, precise speed is important. The throttle works similarly to the one in Dave #1 - it isn't just a button for throttle-on and throttle-off like in most games. You slide up or down to raise and lower the speed. There is more visual feedback to make selecting the correct speed a lot easier. Most recent screenshots show this in the upper right corner of the screen. To steer you just touch the left portion of the screen and slide left or right. There is no visible joystick. The more you slide the faster you turn. I find it very natural and intuitive. Hopefully other people will as well! You can also use tilt steering. Bailing off the bike - you just touch the upper center portion of the screen and swipe left or right. The more you swipe the further Dave will leap off the bike (left or right). This actually adds a lot to the game. You can aim for targets, or avoid more serious injury, say by jumping into water rather than staying on the bike and hitting a truck. It's pretty funny too. Back to work! Thanks for the comment! Oh and I still have the list of people who have won free copies of the game, so don't think I forgot about that!
Of course there is so much fun in deliberately using too much, or indeed not enough, throttle just to see the carnage that results
Thank you! I'm doing my best! Of course! That is half the fun (at least half). Today I am designing Dave's Manager. She still needs a name, but she is the one who will describe each stunt to Dave. I'm not trying to make her hot and I'm not gonna dress her like a floozy, but I DO want her to look female! It's difficult! I don't know if she will appear in the game in any other capacity. Her and Dave have a lot of funny conversations throughout the game. He's not completely convinced that he needs a manager (but he definitely does). Perhaps in an update I can get her on the bike too, but that is a huge maybe. I'm always happy to hear from you all, so thanks for the messages
I am obviously not going to make the March release date that I'd hoped for. It won't be much longer though, I am doing my best! Dave will be five years old on May 11th. which is just over one month from now. I can't miss that as a launch target! It will be worth the wait, I promise. Dave has a manager now. I haven't given her a name yet - I need a good one. She could end up being in the game as more than just a manager, and who knows, maybe she'll even get her own game in the future! Anyways, one thing at a time! I will probably post more pictures here, but no videos until an official trailer is completed. Good news: I got the instant replays working in the game again. I had a problem with them for some time. These can be posted on Youtube and shared in other ways as well - super cool! Stay tuned!
