Sorry, double posted. I'll use this space to mention that I am testing instant replays in the game and they work perfect! You can record, do a voice over as you play, trim the video, then upload it to Youtube, FB, twitter, or email. Pretty awesome!!!
This is a short instant replay taken off the iPad 2. If it seems choppy it's just the video. These replays record and play very smooth on iDevices. Daredevil Dave 2 will be utilizing "Kamcord" for instant replays. You will be able to share them via email, Youtube, Facebook or Twitter. They can also be viewed at Kamcord's website without the horrible quality loss of Youtube. Subscribe to the TouchArcade YouTube channel Note to other devs: Kamcord works perfectly, is easy to integrate, and has great support. I was emailing them (Richard) back and forth all day yesterday and he answered all of my questions. I got it working in 20 minutes without help. They have also partnered with Unreal and are incorporating it into their iOS SDK's, so they won't be going away any time soon. Kamcord is also free.
Hello! Sorry I didn't realize there were new posts here. I'm on the "home stretch" now with Dave 2. I came close to giving up on the game again, mainly due to continued problems with carpal tunnel and other painful issues that have arisen out of 20+ years of computer use. Heed my warning - this stuff sucks. If you start having discomfort or pain, do something about it and take a lot of breaks. Don't wait two decades like I did. I have decided to finish up the game and release it. In order to do this I will remove some of the junk I didn't really want in there to begin with - things like IAP, and earning and grinding for a bunch of junk you don't really need. I want to keep it in the same spirit as the first game. No IAP. No timers, no worries, just fun. Daredevil Dave 2 will cost $0.99 US at release. I'm mentioning all of this because, up until now, I'd expected this project to take quite a bit more time. But it's gotten too big in scope and a bit out of hand really. No release date but here is what I have left to do: - Make the menus - Clean up some graphics - Tweak bike physics - Finish existing jumps and challenges (just a few) - Test Here is the latest game footage video (it's embedded on previous page too) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uop9BNfru_4
Thank you! I will be posting here more now that things are getting closer. Hopefully not too many people forgot about Daredevil Dave - I understand if they did. It's been a long time. Working on it right now.
This screen is obviously unfinished, but it shows some of the new features of the Jump Setup screen (or the "Jumpmaster" for those who remember it from the first game). In the old game you don't have to worry about steering left or right, but in Dave 2 you do. This makes lining up your jump a bit trickier. I have added a split screen, as you can see above. You can select from top view, side view and front view. Within each view you can also point, move and zoom the camera at will. This is very helpful for some jumps. You can "maximize" either the left or right camera if you wish, and go back and forth to split view. I am trying to simplify the act of moving the cameras around. There will also be preset camera positions for each jump. I may add some sort of visual marker to help the player line up for jumps. Something the player can drag to whatever spot they want on the map. I was thinking of making this a powerup you can earn - perhaps a HUD for Dave's helmet? Finally, a list of speeds and ramp angles for the last few attempts will be displayed, and maybe a visual "ghost-trail" of these jumps as well. It should help players figure out each jump with less frustration. What I am working on right now though is the secret feature of the Main Menu About the menus: I, due to my own issues with carpal tunnel syndrome, am making the menus as easy to use as possible. For example, I want all buttons easily reachable without letting go of the iPad with either hand (since the game requires two hands to play), or stretching too far. In fact the menus may be somewhat customizable in that regard. There will be an "advanced" menu so you can tweak the game settings to your liking. One option is anti-aliasing. Some jumps on some devices are okay with anti-aliasing turned on, even though the default setting in the game for that device may be to have them off. Real-time shadows and lighting will be adjustable. Sound settings are detailed. There are a few other settings as well. All of these settings are preset for each devices capabilities when the game is first installed, of course. What you do after that is up to you. I'll try to make the next update a bit more exciting.
Glad to see this is getting close to being finished. Looking forward to causing poor old Dave some serious harm!
been away for a long time. so happy to see this game is still coming! only have an iPod touch now, but if they update the Mini screen with better colors I will buy one.
New Game Mode - Motorcycle Golf!!! How do you play Motorcycle Golf??? In Motorcycle Golf, you get one shot at each flag. You must jump your bike and crash and do whatever it takes to stop Dave's body as close to the flag as possible. At the end of 9 holes the distances are added up - lower scores are better! I'm fairly sure that this is an original game idea This game mode is super addicting! Motorcycle Golf can be played on ANY LEVEL, not just this golf course. Flags may be placed on rooftops, cars, or any other place in the level. In the image below, Dave has "bailed-off" the bike in mid-air in an attempt to get close to the flag on this picturesque island-green . "Bailing-off" is a brand new feature of the game! It is a bit silly, yet very strategic at times. Duck-Cam Hmmm the trees have no branches - the game is still not finished (but it is getting close) so please take that into account with these images. I have more to post but I need to do some things first...to be continued! Any comments on the idea of Motorcycle Golf are welcome!!!
Definitely loving the moto golf! This is probably my most anticipated iOS game alongside Turbo Dismount. Absolutely cannot bear the wait.
Beta testing will begin soon! I will contact the gang from the first game, (if they/you are still out there after all this time) and see if you want to help. After that I will begin looking for additional testers! It's becoming real! By the way, ignore the "FPS" in the images - this level runs at 60 fps, and 45 - 50 fps with real-time shadows n stuff on. (iPad 2). Throttle Gauge This image shows something new that I'm working on. On the right side of the screen are two vertical lines. The line on the right shows how far you've pulled the throttle, the line on the left shows the current speed of the bike. It takes a moment for the bike to reach speed, which can make it hard to nail the exact speed you want. The gauge on the right will help you determine the speed. The left line (bike speed) will always try to be the same length as the right line (desired speed). Sorry if that's confusing. Also, in the background you can see a long vertical arrow dangling from the sky. This is Dave's aiming marker and is used in Golf. I am going to make a similar method of lining up the jumps as well (I think). Maybe a HUD power-up? Right now the arrow is "solid" so if Dave hits it he will crash haha! [Edit] The "Leaderboard" that is partially visible on the left side of the image shows your actual score as play through the holes I'll post a video soon - it takes a lot of time to make one and I'd rather be working. But I want to share so much of what I've done. I have been working 7 days a week on Dave and making big progress. Thanks rich_952000 and everyone else for trying to help bring this thread back to life I'm working hard to earn Dave's fans back!
Hello! I've been busy working on a new level. It will actually be the first to be played in the game. The story is that Dave can't afford to go on tour because he spent all of his winnings from the last one. So he has to settle for his first jump being at the local landfill, or dump. There are actually many different jumps here. Yes, I spelled M-Digital Media wrong on all of these images. Oops! I did manage to get rid of the ugly "FPS" readout though. In this "jump", a bunch of cars and refrigerators and junk fall from the air (somehow) and become obstacles. (don't you just love the factory pipes in the background that lead to nowhere?) You can wait for the stuff to settle on the ground, or you can try and make it through while cars and major appliances are still bouncing around! The location of the cars is random, so the level is different every time. As it is now, you are not always guaranteed a safe path through the mess, so I need to work on that. By the way, after this you continue on to two jumps to complete the stunt As it turns out, this is more of an illegal toxic waste site than a landfill. This is bad for the world, but great fun for us! Swipe the screen to bail-off the bike and aim Dave toward this disgusting mattress. Just do NOT miss! These levels are a lot different than in the old game. This one toxic dump contains many different locations for jumps. Here is an image taken from the editor. It shows an overview of this entire level. It isn't finished, but very close (those ugly mounds!). At some point, Dave will be able to ride around the entire level and do whatever he wants. People like open environments, so I'm trying to do the best I can with that. The levels may not all be 100% capable of being open without problems, but maybe I won't care. You want to try and "fall out" of the level or find some hidden stuff, go for it! AND, on top of that, there is a giant tractor you can unlock, just for fun - with this you can destroy the entire level! And not just this level either! Finally, it wouldn't be complete without Dave destroying himself, or something else... Awesome new stuff Bike physics are much improved. I can now ride around a level almost anywhere without issues, which has been very tricky up until now. Making a car is easy, a motorcycle, not so much. I made an easy to use touch control system for steering the bike. Tilting the screen to steer can be okay, but it can suck too, especially when avoiding obstacles. I have designed a floating invisible joystick - just touch the screen anywhere and drag left or right to steer. It's so easy you can pretty much just roll your thumb back and forth to do it. There will be several control options. New Character! Dave now has a manager. She is obviously the brains behind Dave's come-back tour - since Dave has virtually no brains himself. She may even end up on the bike, but not for the initial game release - I gotta get this thing done! In fact, I may add her as a female stuntwoman character later. It would be cool to let people play as either one. But that will require a whole new sound bank, a female voice actor, and wow I dunno - new clothes! I am still deciding on this characters name, appearance etc. I wonder what would make a good name for a female stuntwoman? I have more to say but I'll go ahead and post this for now
I recently installed the first one on my phone for the first time since around when it came out, and it was funny, but clearly outdated. Good luck with the new one. Golf looks fun.
Getting anxious! Hopefully it is not much longer before ready for release...Any updates on progress is appreciated. Again, can't wait!
Hey! Was hoping for a reply! I am working on music for the game now. It's almost complete. Mainly some songs that will be in a particular level (I need elevator music for one level and what we've come up with is hilarious). I am also working on the "Movie Jumps", where Dave can hire himself out as a Hollywood stuntman in case he gets low on cash (you don't have to buy cash with real money, don't worry!). I will have more to report soon! I am keeping an eye on this thread! Thanks! P.S.: I still have the list with all the contest winners and others who are owed a free game when it comes out. I may be slow but I don't forget!
