No, I am not. Edit: Everyone else, please see the post below if you want to know about the giveaway and see the new screenshots etc.
Here it is again Hello fellow TouchArcadians! Or Arcaders... Daredevil Dave 2 Update! Thought I'd toss out a few Daredevil Dave 2 screenshots, as well as a little info (still trying to finalize a title!). This level is only partially built so some things may look weird. Oh, there's a free copy of Daredevil Dave 2 being given away (when available) somewhere in this post! I'll give the winner a copy of the old game too if they don't already have it. This location will have several different jumps to land, as well as some other tasks you can accomplish as well. Daredevil Dave 2 will give the player more options, unlike the first game. Many MANY more options (this is gonna be so awesome!!!) Many of the levels in DD2 will have multiple jumps or stunts, as well as secrets, achievements, powerups. You will be able to spend time perfecting each jump without fear of losing the game and starting over (as with the old game). This view is from the launch ramp. Dave just loves rooftop jumps! Not! As you can see, there is quite a bit going on here. You can jump through the framed building, or over it, or around it even. Most likely, you'll smash into it a few times as well. You can even steer around the ramp and ride right off the building if you want to and see how that goes! You can take Dave anywhere you want in Daredevil Dave 2! It's a long, painful, bouncing (and even explosive) fall to the ground! Watch those acetylene tanks! There will be three main jumps to land. Below you can see one of the landing "ramps"...it's the "down ramp" on the roof of the parking garage in the foreground. Haha! (this image is not in-game) If you're really good you might be able to hit one of the lower parking levels as well by landing a little short. There is no safe landing there, but you may find a good reason to land there anyways when you play Dave "crashes the party". This will be one of the achievements on this level. We're still working on the explosion effect, mainly replacing the flying "chunks" with better material: There are many places for Dave to explore - such as the interior of this rooftop penthouse apartment (below)! Unfortunately, exploring often requires crashing. Dave seems a little small for those chairs, hmmm. Free game giveaway for the first person who can tell me who the guy on the big screen TV is!!! Yes, this is a contest! The first correct UNEDITED post in this thread wins. Still incomplete, but coming along nicely. Remember these are early images. Needs more buildings and better terrain. I'll have to figure out something sneaky to do with that crane too. I am putting everything I have into this game. Daredevil Dave 2 will be filled to the brim with action, pain, explosions, destruction and general mayhem. And all that without firing a single shot at anything or anyone (in the game of course)! By the way, if you don't already have Daredevil Dave: Motorcycle Stuntman! (the first game), check it out HERE! Daredevil Dave is a completely original game! There is nothing else like it on the App Store, or anywhere else for that matter. He is the original motorcycle stuntman on iOS! It's an oldie but a goodie, and still doing fairly well in the App Store! Any questions are comments are welcome! Happy Holidays!!!
Nope! Actually, it's nobody like that. I would probably get sued if I put a celebrity in the game. He isn't very famous, but somehow I think someone will get it right. Edit: I'm so out of touch these days, if you would have posted your answer two days earlier I wouldn't even have known to whom you were referring! haha
Well now you know - kind of. Yes, it is me! DING DING!!! We have a winner! I needed an image for the TV and decided to have fun with it. I have a realistic looking Uzi squirt gun (try finding one of those these days) and took the photo with the front cam of my phone. Added a backdrop and some shadows on my face. So, as promised, you will receive a free copy of Dave 2 (when it is released), plus the original Daredevil Dave if you don't already have it. I gave out promos like this for the old game as well - before it was released I mean. Don't believe the naysayers ...Dave is coming along fine and will be released. I had to put the new game aside about a year ago because of other projects and other issues. I am working on it full time now (as in morning until bedtime). Send me a PM and let me know how you want the codes sent to you (PM or email). I have a list of all previous winners, in fact here they are: MidianGTX (answered the "hit the cow" question) Java (only if I add an aardvark somewhere in the game haha) DannyTheElite (TV question) I thought there were more actually? Am I missing anyone? It would have happened in this thread. New contest idea. There will probably be other TV's in the game, and billboards. Maybe I could have a contest and people can design their own TV screen and the winners could have them put into the game. Would anybody be interested in something like that?
Hi! Hi Schplurg! I really love your original Daredevil Dave and i still have it on my touch 5 and it does bring back memories with my old device . Well, I was wondering when will you release DD2? I'm very excited to buy this game and i just can't wait! and, will you still include some levels from the original Daredevil Dave?
Hello! Thank you for the kind words. Daredevil Dave 2 will be released at the start of this summer, at the latest. I'm not normally good with projecting my own release dates, but this one is certain. Could be sooner. As for levels from the old game, are there any in particular that you would like to see? There will be levels similar to "House Of Pain", where Dave has no choice but to crash spectacularly for cash. That's a popular request (sorry Dave haha). I liked the helicopter jumps. I don't want to copy those but possibly something involving very fast spinning sharp blades, and other nasties! Dave will have some rescue missions of sorts. The jump in Dave #1 where he leaps into the bad guys hideout and blows it up - there will be some jumps along those lines (not the same though). Other jumps will (or may) include farms, canyons and mountainous terrain, stadium jumps with a lot more than just jumping over vehicles, and even a few side jobs as a movie stuntman. If anyone has any jump ideas, I'm listening!
Bout time to hear something about this! You said this was gonna come out in 2011! So, two and a half years later to expect this? Wow, we'll see how this goes...
An amusement park is on the table, but I haven't begun working on it yet. I would like to put several stunts into this level, just not sure what they would be yet. Something to do with a roller coaster maybe? Hehe. I do have a jump that involves a Funhouse and evil zombie clowns, though it isn't part of an amusement park. That probably doesn't make sense but it will when you see it. Some other jumps: A Casino jump, sort of inspired by Evel Knievels famous jump/crash at Caesars Palace. The aforementioned zombie "jump", where Dave rides up a scary mountain road, splatting zombie clowns along the way, eventually finding and destroying their Funhouse. It's even weirder than it sounds. Various stadium and racetrack jumps. A farm. Jumps involving animals (not sharks this time). And some Hollywood stuntman gigs where Dave can make extra cash as well - a war movie, car chase scene. These stunts never turn out well for Dave, as he's pretty much being paid to get hurt. Release date: I know, I am the worst when it comes to my release dates. That's why I've been vague until now. I actually couldn't work on the game at all for quite some time. I think the first post in this thread still says 2011 That's probably not going to happen (call me crazy). Dave 2 will be released by start of summer - June anyways, at the latest. Things have already been set in motion and there is no turning back. At the same time, this leaves plenty of time to get the game the way I want it, not just "good enough for release". If I finish it earlier, that would be a bonus Seems like a long time but it will be worth it. The new Dave is much more complex than the original, both in graphics and gameplay. Anyways, as I said, Dave 2 is my full time gig. I build, I eat, I build again, I sleep - sometimes. I have no life right now other than designing this game, and I like it that way. We just got through recording Dave's voice and comments, screams, etc. That was hilarious! Thank you for the replies and ideas. Amusement park jump, hmmm, maybe I'll start that one next!
I just tested Dave 2 on a 32gig iPod Touch 3rd Gen, and it ran very well, so there is still hope for some older devices! I believe the iPhone 3GS would be a comparable device...? For anyone interested, we just started adding some custom shaders to the game, so most of the posted screenshots are suddenly very much out of date. Also, by some unexplainable phenomenon (okay, I'm lame), the textures were only being imported into the game at half resolution! Gee, that explains a lot! I'll get some updated stuff up soon. I'd post more, but I went to the dentist today and I'm a bit out of commission now. I don't have nearly as high a tolerance for pain as Dave
I'm just glad you're keeping us updated. Always good to know that a developer is dedicated to what he is doing.
Hello folks! Just wanted to let people know we're still alive here and working on Dave. I don't have much time to post at the moment, but I can say that the game has received a pretty big graphical overhaul. All the current screenshots are now obsolete (that's a good thing). I will post more very soon. There are some very cool and unique new "jumps" too, however I'm not ready to elaborate yet, mainly because I'm exhausted. Nice frame! If anyone is interested to see, this is a signed Evel Knievel photo that's about 35 years old I'm guessing. When I was about 10 years old I had a big EK poster in my room, with an address at the bottom. So I wrote a letter (that's like an email except handwritten on actual paper with a pen or pencil) to Evel one day, I can't remember what I said in the letter. A few months later I received this photo folded in an envelope. On it is written "To Mike, Happy Landings! Evel Knievel" It's faded badly but it's still legible. My Dad took me to a store to get it framed. I think there's some printed material on the back of it but I haven't taken it out of the frame yet. And ya, it deserves a new frame! It's one of my most prized possessions!
