That just makes you an old school shmup fan which is fine. Bullet Hell is usually this way, you can use a wide shot, dodge and survive to the end if you dodge well enough. Enemies can't be ignored if you hope to maximize your score, and that's what it's all about
You don't ignore them...You want to combo kill them WHILE grazing bullets. I'm more of a fan of the "swarmer" style shmups most Americans grew up on, but I love bullet hell games now. It's the same as it always was...you're shooting for a high score. The method is the only difference.
It was pretty easy to combo kill them without even paying attention to them (talking about the first game). I pretty much 100% focused on grazing bullets and avoiding them. I guess I was confused about what bullethell games are. I really enjoyed Mars Matrix, Ikaruga, GunBird & GunBird2. **falls into trance over the Dreamcast days** **wakes up** Er.. um... anyway, maybe those weren't in the same genre.
yeah, this one has a couple of different modes to try. the Classic mode is kinda like the original DU, but you have to destroy ships at close proximity to increase your multiplier, and grazing bullets doesn't add to your multi, but instead tacks on an extra amount of points dependent on how many bullets you've dodged. getting hit with the ADS system active only halves your multiplier, but your graze count resets to zero. in Burst mode, you're given a burst beam (via swiping down) that converts bullets into multiplier tokens. getting close to ships while shooting them gives you tokens that recharge the burst beam. at the very least, you can download the lite version and try the two modes to see if you can get what you want out of the game, but at 99 cents this is a no-brainer. sunny gives CAVE a run for their money and he's only one guy! support him, and buy after if goes back up to $5. and then buy storm strikers and DU1, and buy credits in those too, he deserves it!!
Umm... Loving This Been biding my time to pick up a shmup like this... and am extremely impressed. Awesome.
Tried the lite version of 2, there wasn't an option for that. Same for the full version of #1. Guess its an option only in the full version of 2 or maybe just on iPad? Anyway yeah 2-lite didn't really appeal to me. All in all, yeah I'm more of a traditional shmup fan. Plasma Sky, SuperOxWars, Buster Spirits... I had more fun with those. Same for retro ports like Raiden Legacy. It was cool though to see what was up with this series. Now I don't have to wonder when I see it mentioned.
You can treat it like a traditional shooter. Play it without concentrating on grazing. Avoid the bullets as you normally would in other shooters and you will find that you will graze automatically. That's the nice thing about this game: you can be hardcore and graze your ass off, or ignore it and just play. It doesn't have to be about multipliers and high scores to be enjoyable. For .99 cents, it's a no brainer if you have even the smallest interest in this genre.
So awesome! Been on my watch list for ages until I could afford it. 99 cents is ridiculously cheap for such an awesome game! This is my favorite ios shooter by far, even after playing it for just a day.
So many great shooters on iOS these days, but this one is still my fave. Grab it if haven't done so yet!
