    Yeah... definitely Cave...

And Phoenix HD - it has a star difficulty system that goes up based on how well you do. Because of this, it's a also a great game to get into if you're just starting out. =o)

And rRootage... this game has been on every single iDevice I've owned so far... and it'll be put on every iDevice I get in the future, so long as an OS update doesn't screw it up, and the devs keep updating it (it's still being updated, has widescreen support... great stuff)

Anyway - back on topic with DU2 - I just really started getting into Classic Mode... and... Love it. Now it's my 'go-to' mode whenever I've got a couple minutes...

This is one of the few bullet hell games that I don't rage quit on whenever I take damage in the first level. It might just be my favorite bullet-hell title on the iOS....

Try the ones strivemind and syntheticvoid has suggested.

I feel like I'm the only one that's not into Cave vertical bullet hell games. Personally for me, I find Cave vertical bullet hells not that fun. (I do still love Deathsmiles.) I feel like I'm missing something since others love it so much, so I keep trying... I know there's variation for the scoring and different game mechanics, but honestly to me, all of them feels pretty much the same at the level I play. I've played them plenty but never reach the higher understanding of the games like others here, and these games just keep driving me batty. They are high quality games though, just not for my taste. You still should definitely try one of them first to see how you like it.

For reference, I like Touhou style (on PC) bullet hell games much better, where the bullet feels like they move much slower for me so I have more time to discern bullet patterns (even though I still die pretty fast and the game is still plenty hard). ;P

Man, I really should pick this up then...

The first one was the one that got me interested in bullet hell games... I've been hesitating cause I've found shmups to be not fun lately (especially after playing Cave vertical games). I guess the side problem is I've somehow lost a lot of interest in gaming in general for the past year for some unknown reason..I seem to play only a few pinball games, and a few dual stick shooters now.

Welp... pretty sure I just saw the True Last Boss - and WOW! Even just playing on Hard that boss is a BEAST! =oD

Hope I can make it that far on Insane... I want to see those extra dense bullet patterns! =oD

Just wondering - does anyone know if upgrading your shot type has any effect on your laser shot in Classic Mode? Or is the laser shot always the same strength?

I'm pretty sure it's always the same strength... only thing that changes is the main weapon...

I didn't see the true last boss yet (I'm concetrating more in the highscore chase right now) and I can't wait to face all the tons of bullets it will spit out! :)

    1. Developers ALWAYS run sales on their apps. I have bought tons of apps only to see them go 0.99/free within a few weeks, even major developers that supposedly never do sales. It gets frustrating.

    2. My game backlog is too long as is.

All I hear these days is "blah blah blah, cheap, rip-off, free free free". If you think a game looks great you should grow a spine and support it, no excuses.

Haha, I was waiting for someone to ask this. I don't think this secondary laser shot is affected by upgrades, which is exactly why I drop all my weapon upgrades as low as possible and devote my upgrades to lives and A.D.S. and just use the secondary laser while in Classic mode.

Thanks to all for the suggestions. I have quite a few things to try. Regarding rRootage, it reminds me of the VR Missions in metal gear. Good practice for the mechanics, but it lacks the energy and personality that's so gripping about the full games.

  11. Since you are the developer of Phoenix HD, gotta say that Phoenix HD plays totally rad with my new icade core. Playing both Danmaku 2 and Phoenix hd with my hdmi tv, makes both play just like arcade games. Really impressive. Totally different experience than even my xbox experience. Feels like I am in the arcades of old. And when I get bored, can just go back to touch controls for a different feel, all though, I'm kinda curious how the Trinity ship will control with an icade core in Phoenix since I was playing with the Corsiar.

Totally want to mod my icade core now, but even the generic one really plays really well and is well built, I am impressed.

Slightly off topic, but I just tried Phoenix HD. PHENOMINAL. And currently free. Wow.

I know what you mean about rRootage, but the App Store is sorely lacking that kind of "boss fights only" SHMUP that I really dig, so I still play the crap out of it. Give rRootage the sound and graphics from DU2 and that's essentially my perfect game.

I'm liking the sound of this.

I agree that the jump in difficulty is a big step there, I've only finished the game (excluding the True dude) on Normal, and practically all of my lives and continues were used solely on stage 5.

It's off topic only because it's not Danmaku. It's very much so on topic since it is in the same category as Danmaku: A definitive, top shelf, native iOS shooter.

Given Foxbat's situation not having unlimited resources to pour into game development, I'd choose a new mode over a new stage as it'd cover all five stages and probably provide more extra gameplay.

  16. I just got my icade core, and it works wonders with Danmaku 2. Makes it totally feel like a different game. Old school arcade game players will love it especially with hdmi tv. Can't believe how well it plays with my icade core, and even though it is not quite as sexy as hdmi, it is very close. Sexy!

Foxbat, I tried my icade core with the original Danmaku and couldn't get it to work, do I have to do something special in the options menu for it to work?

Yeah, I don't want to see the difficulty changed with board 4 or 5, just something in between. The difficulty jump is a catalyst for more content *hint hint* ;)

Agreed. Doing a new mode would probably be less resource intensive too.

I thought the icade uses Bluetooth? Shouldn't you be using your hdmi to tv, while controlled by the icade? ;-)
