hey guys, just to let you guys know that there'll be a new patch (probably this week) that adds the option to change the transparency of the prizes in game. There are also a couple of bug fixes which should fix the colonel to ace rank bug and the occasional movement bug entering a new stage. Oh and the new patch also adds support for the upcoming successfully kick started GameDock controller!
Legendary Game! "The game is AMAZING!!! Fantastic job man! There is literally nothing wrong with this game. It is absolutely on the level with Caves shooters. And the music! LOVE IT! Played it in my car with the bass and it was beyond epic. What a journey. BTW . Last night I beat the true final boss on burst extreme, brutal man. Check my score on gamecenter, 6.1 Trillion!!!! So stoaked about that score. My finger was sore cause I was pressing too hard on my iPad cause it was SO INTENSE and amazing. I cant say enough good things about this game." Just copied and pasted my comment from the dev page =) New score is 9.65 trillion, GC name is Bartucookie PLEASE add another digit to the counter!!!! =D
Man, you guys are getting some ridiculous scores. I put this game down for the past week or so, but I am going to pick this back up and try to compete! Of course this will happen once I get my fill of Plasma Sky first.
Transparency is awesome!!!! Thanks! Gotta check out this gamedock, wonder how it compares to the icade core joystick.
Not too impressed with that gamedock. First, it's a step back cause it's wired joysticks, not bluetooth wireless, second it's got cheap looking nintendo style joysticks, not nice like the icade core joystick. It's not dual stick analog like the Gameloft Duo Gamer Joystick. Finally, hdmi tv already exists that do hdmi tv out. Too bad, was thinking it would be better than hdmi and an icade core, but not even close. Oh well.
Yeah me neither... my best is only 239 million, as I am new to shmups. Still loving the game, though, and slowly getting better XD And yeah, the new transparent bonuses sound like a really awesome addition!
Was going to buy the full game but $5 is too much for such a short game. If they have a sale for $1, I'd definitely get it.
The length of the game tells little as to the actual experience you are getting. Haha, yeah. 100 times the first day
Is it just me, or is there a considerable difficulty spike between Classic and Burst modes? I'm getting rocked early in Stage 2 in Burst Normal (I can hear SV groaning in despair ), but I can usually make it past the Stage 2 boss in Classic. It could also just be the need to constantly switch back and forth between shot and beam in Burst mode that's making it just hard enough to stay focused. I guess I'll have to practice some more!
Classic Mode is built around using Trance more often... Grazing fills up your Trance meter a LOT quicker in Classic than in Burst. Once you get that down, and use Trance Mode more often, it does get a tad bit easier. =o)
Thanks very much for the tips; good to know! I think my biggest issue at the moment is losing my cool and letting myself get boxed in by a bullet pattern, which in the end just boils down to practice. But I guess I can also be a little less conservative in Classic with Trance mode-- I usually try to horde it for the bosses, but if it fills up fast enough with grazing I might not have to hamstring myself that badly.
Compared to the garbage that regularly appears on the TA front page, this game is an absolute App Store gem and deserves to be reviewed promptly. I'm honestly kind of shocked that there hasn't been a review for it yet. Foxbat, thanks for the fantastic game! I have a question for you. I'm very interested in developing a danmaku-style shooter in the future, but I'm only decent at the genre, and I don't really pursue high scores so much as just aim for completion. (Doesn't matter, it's still a ton of fun for me!) When you started developing your shooters, how good were you at danmaku games? How good did you have to get? I remember one of Cave's lead programmers talking about how he can't beat some of the harder levels he makes, but I'm curious how it works for you.
I'm really not that good at it at all! Like you I usually play the game just for completion and to enjoy the action. Akai-Katana and Crimzon Clover(awesome, awesome game this one) are probably first ones that I really try to go for a good score. I probably have improved over the course of development from trying out existing shooters and the countless hours play-testing my own (if you're going to make an iOS shooter I'd suggest getting a touch-pen for testing, it is really hard on your fingers sliding on the screen all day haha), but I'm not an expert by any stretch. As for beating my own game, I still have trouble 1cc'ing the game in stage 5, which is about right because if I made the game such that I can beat it easily (being an average player) the game will probably be too easy for the genre veterans haha (I think the DU2 may still be a bit on the easy side for experts) Best of luck in developing your shooter! Hope to be able to try it out in the future
Looking forward to the update Sunny. Injustice: lack of fairness or justice; an unjust act or occurrence Ludicrous: foolish, unreasonable, or out of place to be amusing; ridiculous Insanity: the state of being seriously mentally ill; madness
Reprinted from Phoenix HD thread. I just played an hour of Blazing Star, Raiden, Phoenix HD, Danmaku 2, Storm Strikers, and Airattack HD. All on my icade core. All have options for autofire, or default to autofire. Most let you switch to either autofire or not. Phoenix hd does not. My impressions. Icade core play is about 3x funner than touch controls. However, it is harder to get high scores. Touch controls I always play on hardest mode. With my icade core, I usually play on normal. Icade core does use a lot of battery due to bluetooth wireless. Phoenix hd, is funner on icade core, but touch controls are very close in funness. This game controls well in both icade and touch. I'm not sure if you knew, but the buttons do control secondary functions, so it adds to the game. Usually I prefer auto fire with both touch and icade. With my icade core, it is really fun to play for 5 minutes with auto fire off, but after a while, button mashing is no fun for me, so I will turn autofire back on. You can always just fake it, and keep hitting one of the buttons on an icade core just to mimic autofire off. Actually, if you kind of believe its not, it will mimic the experience quite well. Icade code controls in Phoenix HD and Danmaku 2 play really well in terms of accuracy, better than the other games, in my opinion. Danmaku 2 really gets better play with an icade core. It is ok for me with touch, but with icade core, it just becomes a totally different game. Icade core is so much funner than touch, not even close. Raiden is the same way, kinda cruddy touch controls, but man, it rocks with my icade core. I get a real sense that I am in the arcades. Don't play much with touch, but with the core, it rocks. Plus the funky framerates are less of an issue with the icade core, cause you are so frantically hitting the joystick, that the jiggling on the screen seems natural. Icade core is a must for this game. Blazing star plays well in three configs - icade core, touch, and stylus on a tripod. Kinda like all three. However since it was designed for a slow joystick, it shines on the icade core. But touch and stylus are also great. This game is good for hdmi too cause the graphics aren't high res. Storm strikers 2, I would never play on my ipad cause it's 2x and the framerates too in this game are funky. But as is the same for Raiden Trilogy, the icade core saves this game. Seems like games that have a little jerkiness with, play so much better with the icade core, cause everything is jerking around when you have your ipad mounted in the icade core. Storm strikers 2, just rocks with an icade core and hdmi tv, just wish now that my dream will be granted, and Danmaku the original will add icade support. Icade is a must for storm strikers 2, without it, I probably wouldn't play it much. Airattackhd, is an old game that I never bought in the past, but just started playing recently cause of icade core support. It is a pretty fun game, but shines with icade core support. This game too like Storm strikers 2, probably wouldn't play this much without icade core support. Plus this game looks pretty on hdmi tv. Attached screenshot is Danmaku 2.
I'm not falling for your propaganda. Perfect sensitivity through direct touch is the best thing ever to happen to SHMUPs.
My personal preference to play any game is through an actual D-Pad. You can't get those direct taps through touch or an arcade stick like you can with direct thumb movement. Connector, do those Orchids come with every purchase of an iCade?
That's ok, I like both. Just it is alot more comfortable to play with a joystick and much easier to play on hdmi tv. A lot funner to play, easier, and more action packed. But direct touch is much more accurate and sensitive for sure. Do you have an icade core?
