Cool game that makes me always nervous on escaping thise bullets. Tried playing on my icade and it's fun but hard xD
Just now realized that the Combined score leaderboard registers the highest score achieved on any level of difficulty, rather than actually combining the scores of the 4 difficulty levels. Is this right or is my GC fritzy? I'll hopefully be posting soon for the scoring competition—have to get comfortable with Burst Mode scoring and the competition will no doubt help. Thanks, synth, for reviving the Bullet Hell Fanatics competition!
Yeah, icade is not good for high scores, but it is hella fun. Try playing Phoenix hd with the trinity, that is one of the best joystick/touchscreen experiences ever. I love danmaku 2 with icade, wasn't into it all that much without icade, but man, with my icad core, it just rocks!
Do any other SHUMPS besides Cave games and Sunny Tam's offer both exact movement (I call it "per-pixel", it feels as though with these SHUMPS you can move your ship with near single pixel accuracy) AND what appears to be 60 FPS? In other words, any SHUMPS (really bullet hell, they're the only type that requires such precision, especially with bullet grazing) besides these two devs that are so damn silky smooth?
Well I just opened my game center to see if this was case for me and saw that I have only played extreme mode so far, so I can't tell if it is the same for me, lol. However, while I was there I looked at the scores for two other friends in game center and theirs is showing the same as yours....the Combined score is not actually combined, but instead is just the highest score achieved on any one difficulty level. I guess that is the design although the word combined is misleading. Anyways, since the BHF competition started I have played nothing other than free play stage 2 over and over. Not making much progress yet but it's still fun. Might need to take a break and go back to Arcade mode with some shot upgrades for awhile.
Have it. What about Netrizer (sp?) and the other games from that guy? I remeber dl'ing shooter after shooter from him on Gamehippo in the early 2000's late 90's.
Regarding "per pixel" controls... does 2:0 differ on iPad retina? The graphics themselves aren't retina, but is the movement? Can you move the ship one pixel on the screen which would equal half a sprite pixel? Either way, 2:0 feels far more precise to me, I like being able to make small, careful adjustments that send my ship swerving away from bullets with panache.
Almost hit 4 billion on stage 2 with no upgrades... And now I'm officially beyond hooked. I WILL get through the game on extreme without any points spent... And beat OmKol's score! =oP Probably not, but I love how our little competitions get me even more into games that I didn't think I could have more love for. Thank you so much for this amazing gem, Sunny!
I am a little dismayed that neither TA or AppSpy have reviewed Danmaku 2. I think there are way less worthy titles that get more attention. Maybe if I keep bumping the thread they will.
I love TA, but they've always been pretty worthless for shmups. Other than Cave games, you're more likely to see coverage of some garbage freemium endless shooter on the front page than a quality shmup like this.
Yeah it's a shame. This is a native iOS, which to me is more relevant than a port of a game made years ago. Not only that, it's one of the best on the store. Same with AppSpy. I'm surprised Andrew hasn't reviewed it.
It is true, but to their credit, they(TA) don't force themselves to writing reviews of games they're not into. I think they simply don't have a reviewer with a strong affinity for shmups. (This is simply the impression I'm getting!) The Cave games are very high profile and easy to like (visual appeal, lots of visual character), so they generally get a mention for their press releases etc. The "smaller" (can't stress those airquotes enough) shmups are just not on their radar and there is such a constant stream of tidal waves with new games that it is impossible to watch everything, especially if it's not up your ally. Some of you are pretty good at writing reviews, ever sent one to the TA crew? Regarding DU2, I initially ramped up the difficulty pretty fast, playing on extreme for a while. Now i'm taking steps back and I find it utterly enjoyable to play flawless with a bit less stress. The difficulty is vey finely balanced, the differences are clear and very tasty. It's not a giant switch going from "so-easy-it's-stupid-and-I-play-with-my-nose-to-get-some-kind-of-challenge" to "ok-there-are-so-many-bullets-might-as-well-not-move-I-will-die-anyway". Most shmups with a difficulty setting suffer from this, plus users generally only play on "easiest" or "hardest", almost never in between. Kudos to Sunny Tam for putting so much effort into it and making it work so nicely
