Awesome update, thank you devs +1 When I see the name of the game and the icon... Well it makes me think of a twin stick shooter. "Nullspace: Dangerous Awekening" and a nice galaxy icon or something that makes you think of space, that would be nice Also, I seem to have encountered a bug: I'm trying to get the NVY tech ( Spoiler warp skill ) and it's saying that I've reached the max standings (0.99). I dock to the station, the nvy dude wants to talk to me at the cantina but his quest is still unavaible. 5.7 hours, love this game Gonna raise my trading fleet
The 1.0.3 update is out! It adds a bunch of fixes and options like invert y toggle and introduces the new perk system to let you tailor the game to the way you play. Download it, and please leave a review. I've been contacting various media outlets, but not many reviews or mentions. Someone on Reddit suggested I stop beating around the bush and tell people straight up that it's an EVE Online clone. The idea is you can board any ship, but you have to get rid of its shielding first. The larger ships would be more heavily defended on the inside. And it would be a way to deal with the hijacked ship mission or derelicts. The plan is to make ship board optional, so if you prefer the spaceship fighting then you can still do that. It's possible that it's too deep, or that some mobile review outlets won't bother since it doesn't cater to the casual crowd. Dunno, since they typically don't respond even if I were to ask. The thing I didn't like about GoF2 was the combat was lacking. There was little you could do to avoid enemy fire even when they added the swipe to avoid thing. And once you got the top invisibility cloak, the challenge was gone. It was an "I win" module. Not that I didn't enjoy GoF2 immensely. I finished it a couple times and picked it up for my Mac. There can never be too many Elite-alikes. In Dangerous, there are a ton of viable combat strategies not only for your ship, but also what your wingmen can bring to the fight. And enemies can equip anything that you can. But still, this EVE Online way may not appeal to everybody, so that's why we added the dogfighting capability with the gravity vortex bombs. If your iPod Touch has a retina display, Dangerous will make use of it. It doesn't look as cramped on retina displays. The new update adds an auto-hide feature for the Contacts list and active modules when no enemies are around. We also reduced the size of the contacts themselves so more would fit on the 3GS display. Glad to hear you're enjoying combat! In my opinion, this is much closer to how you'd experience PVP combat in EVE Online. Their PVE offering is rather weak--they just throw swarms of ships at you that can't use the same modules. In Dangerous, the ships are as deadly as your own and they can make use of the same modules. GoF2 is improving, they added the guided missile and turrets. The thing I realized when developing Dangerous was how much more freedom we gave the player in movement and speed. In GoF2, they carefully control your speed so you can't get too far away from your enemies and vice versa. This makes for a more fun dogfighting game, but it does remove freedom from the player. You can't easily escape your enemies, configure a super-fast ship, a super tank, etc. Don't get me wrong, I loved GoF2 still. Hopefully Dangerous will give players who want that freedom that game. Already fixed in the update. There are a lot of beams in the game, not sure which one is the beaming "Jesus" light. Inverted controls are in the update, grab it now! Also fixed the light texture problem for iPad 2 and iOS 5.x. Thanks for your support! Here's the plan: The FPS (actually third-person shooter) element is not your typical brain-dead one. It will involve more strategy and tactics like you'd find with Mass Effect. It's going to be real-time with the ability to pause the game to select your powers (optionally, you could make it all real-time). You can get a tiny glimpse of our original prototype if you watch the first video we posted. We plan to support all major peripherals over time, probably after the ship boarding element is added. They don't do anything at the moment. Probably will in a future content update. Leviathan story SPOILER: Spoiler as the story goes, you'll discover that there's a Leviathan planted in every system confirming everybody's fears that they are alien weapons awaiting activation and bringing about the apocalypse. Dangerous is usually the first hit when I search in the app store. We had the "Null Space" tagline after it originally.
I downloaded the new update and chose the space trader perk because I wanted to recreate the same type of trading empire I had in games like X3. However I'm completely at a loss on how to trade, command my freighters, and set routes and stuff. Would appreciate it if someone enlightened me here!
Make sure you have at least one point of skill in Corporate Pilots (that perk should have maxed that skill). Each point lets you control one autonomous corporate ship. In the Hangar, select the [Ships] button. There, you'll see all your ships listed. You should see an extra ship if you're in the Washbo hub station with a [Route] button next to it. Click that, and you can tell that ship where to mine or make trade runs. The ship will go out and mine or buy and return to the current station which is its "home" station. If you want that ship to have a different "home" station, tell it to [move] to that other station. At which point, it'll depart for that station. You can tag along in space if you like. Remember that you can only route ships to where you've been. If you want to visit all the systems in a hurry, you can try to outfit propulsion modules or hull modification modules to a frigate or interceptor. That will let you fly extremely fast, but be extremely weak to enemy fire. Propulsion modules will increase your signature radius as a penalty, and hull modifications reduce your armor rating as a drawback. I would also suggest getting the transport ship license and outfit cargo hold expansion modules before you route the ships. You can equip each ship by using it [Use], then [equip]. Go back to your normal ship so you can route the other ship. You can only route a ship that you're not flying. Hope that helps!
I'm assuming this is with 1.0.3? If your standing is at least 0.5, you should have already done the loyalty quest and should have the Warp Navigation skill. Check your skills under the Navigation button. You'll need to put some XP into that skill before you'll see any benefits. By the way, we've made it so you can only get .99 standings since we want to add more loyalty quests as content updates. So maybe that's the confusion...? Glad you're enjoying the game!
I love how much commitment tge devs have to this title. One thing I have to ask about and game that has any kind of graphical "oomph" these days: how does it run on an iPod Touch 4G? Any crashing? How is the framerate?
I'm playing it on both a 3GS and iPod Touch 4G, and it runs flawlessly on both devices. In the time I've played the game I've had no crashes whatsoever, either.
Very promising looking game. I'm definitely interested for my Ipad2. I will pick it up when/if control pad ship maneuvering is implemented.
@Binaryhelix I guess it depends on the country you're searching for the game. In the Spanish app store when I search for "Dangerous", the game appears on the 9th-10th position. Anyway, I guess the Spanish app store is not one of your top priorities, since you need to have a good knowledge of English to enjoy the game, and most of the Spanih would be crying for a Spanish translation and giving low scores because it's not in Spanish I really wish you sell many copies of the game, because it's a very deep one. Btw, did you fix the dialogue bug where some long texts couldn't be seen because the space was too small? I haven't been able to play yet because of lack of time...
The iPad (and all mobile devices) have two control methods: tilt and touch-drag anywhere on the screen. If you hold your finger, it auto-repeats. We're working on improving the touch-drag and will also add a static dpad area in a future update. Outside of mining which needs manual control, you could play the whole game using just the autopilots. (Edit: actually, you could equip an auto-miner module that would mine for you. Not as fast as you could mine, but it's your choice.) We'd love to translate it for other markets if the demand ever arose. We have all the dialogue and text in an online database, so we could even open it up to fans who wanted to help us translate. I don't think we fixed all the truncated text on lower resolution devices like iPhone 3GS for the 1.0.3 update (which took over a week to approve), but we will have more of them fixed for the next update. Since Apple took so long, we have already released 1.0.4 for the PC, and will probably submit 1.0.5 to Apple sometime next week.
Question Got the update and choose the explorer perk...my question is what are the derelict ships u find used for?? I found two leviathans but I can't seem to do anything with them... Thanks!
Some derelict ships will still be operable after you destroy the enemies guarding them. These will autopilot to the nearest station (you can follow it). Once there, if you like that ship, you can fly them without needing the license. (You need the license to buy or sell them.) Just go to your hangar, and [Use] the new ship. If you have the Corporate Pilot skill, you can command them to start mining or making trade runs. Any ship can mine if it has a laser equipped. The Leviathans don't do anything (yet). They're part of the story that unfolds. You can read my spoiler about them in the previous page.
I found a bug that deleted one of my save files. Unfortunately I lost 10 hours of progress. I hope it's been fixed in this update. Also, are all the derelict ships support class? I found like 10+ of them and they were all support class.
Some questions: -Can you lose ships that you send mining or doing trade runs? -Can you move one ship to another station, just to have all of your fleet in one place? -Will it be possible to control more ships and a station in the future? ( ) -Is there a way to see the tech an HQ offers after visiting it? And again, please include a cockpit view, at least one cockpit per class of ships! I'd so like to warp while in cockpit view I asked appspy two/three days ago to review this game, hope they'll publish one next week Thanks, I trained it to level 2, this is an expensive skill
-Pirates generally only attack you, so your corporate ships should be safe. (Note that this might change in the future, but if it does, we'll provide some kind of escort capability for your ships. Also, pirates do attack other ships and it's possible that one of your corporate ships is caught in the crossfire. You could equip them with shields, armor, and weapons to help them survive, but this probably isn't necessary.) -You can move all your ships to one station or spread them around. -Technically, our engine could allow virtually unlimited routable corporate ships (memory and CPU limited), but we probably won't add any more unless the content warrants it. We have some ideas on station ownership, so maybe in the future this could happen. Stations would be very expensive to build, so perhaps that might be a time to revisit the number of corporate pilots. -We have some ideas on how to improve the the local map, so maybe this is where the tech level of the station could be shown once you've visited. We can't commit to this yet unfortunately. I want to get the boarding done soonish, then depending on sales and where we're at, we could look at our options going forward. Thanks! Will make sure we try to reach out to them, too. We're looking into bug reports including the save issue. By the way, feel free to email us with bug reports at [email protected].
I'm on an iPhone 4, so I can assure you the text bug is with high-res graphics. I think the main problem is that the iphone/ipod screen is too small for the huge amount of text/buttons there are in the game. Anyway, better this than not having the game! keep it up!
@BinaryHelix: You mentioned that you plan to add support for external gamepads in the future. Please be sure to include support for 60beat's gamepad when you do this! Speaking of controls, is the on-screen control pad still coming in the V1.0.4 update? I really want to resume playing but can't until you add this feature. Thanks, Andrew
Oh god please never stop supporting this game!!!!!!!! I have never seen heard or had a game on iOS device I was more exited about then this! It gives me the same feeling I have whene I play mass effect! And those are my favorite games, they have a very special place in my heart, I'm looking forward to the boarding part of the game, and this is one of the things that air it reminds so much of mass effect, but please don't stop supporting this game, this game has huge potential, and I would love to see where and how far it could go! I imagine a cool mix of a FPS and a space game! Still some tiny bugs and issues that needs solving, but nothing game ruining though.
I am not against them implementing it but I really don't see why people like the 60beat controller. It plugs into the headphones jack which disables the speaker on the ipad/iphone and you will have a cord to deal with dangling from the iPad. The onlive controller is Bluetooth and seems like a much better solution.
