The 3d graphics look great, but the art and style is not to my taste. I'd prefer some cool steampunk and magical characters and machines over militaristic soldiers.

You should definitely stick around for what we've planned for after Lost Company then :)

The two of us are working hard and we've just about finished the first four levels of the game. There's still a bit of level tweaking and some art polish to go before release, but each level is playing really well. Each level is a puzzle that guides you through the story, so each one is quite engaging.

We're also working on get a few skirmish levels out the door soon too, so stay tuned for that.

One quick question; are the skirmish levels available as a separate option from the main single-player mode? If so, will the enemy be randomly placed each time you play?

I'm really glad you decided to make the single-player story a priority over the online modes, as I think it will allow you to develop loads of additional content/maps/characters to give the game lasting appeal. Personally, I don't really like playing against randoms with whom I rarely interact - playing against a carefully thought out AI with unlockables and a story line is much more rewarding.

In closing I must say this is looking fantastic and is firmly at the top of my Wanted list! Can't wait to get my hands on it!

When, oh when will we see Isochron?

    Much more interested in that.

:D No need to prioritise either, they both look ace! I do prefer the art style of this one though ;)

One suggestion; can we have customisable names for our characters please? Always adds a bit more emotion to the game, and attachment to your characters in the same way as Worms etc :)

Yes, but I consider the western-style tactical TBS formula (X-Com / Silent Storm / Rebelstar / Jagged Alliance / Shadow Watch) to be way more compelling than the Japanese-style ones (FF Tactics / Disgaea / Ogre Battle Tactics / Etc.).

Any tactical game w/o LOS, Cover and Overwatch is missing something cool.

I would also like to be able to customize names.

I agree. Though I do I think that this one, while still turn-based, might be slightly more suited to quick skirmishes rather than a full-on tactical battle like Isochron. I think you can still have fun playing a TBS without LOS, Cover & Overwatch; just look at how popular Advance Wars is.

I understand what you guys are talking about but just to clarify, Lost Company has LOS and Cover, it just doesn't provide a fog of war to hide the enemy when you can't see them. (which is probably what you meant by LOS and Cover)

The LOS in Lost Company is actually quite advanced with a 2D system in place for hiding behind sandbags and buildings, and a 3D system that takes the terrain into account so you can hide below cliff edges for partial or full cover. When combined you get a nice balance between a predictable LOS and a realistic LOS.

Being able to see the enemy in Lost Company makes for games that are a bit more bold and proactive as you can somewhat predict what your enemy is doing (much like chess). In our strategic victory mode where you capture flags and hold them for points, this means strategic planning comes into effect from the very first turn, and is about figuring out your opponent's strategy as well as your own.

Isochron on the other hand is all about preparing for a battle that could happen at any turn, and making sure that you're not caught out when moving between defensive positions. The suspense makes for a slower pace to begin with but it's quite rewarding when the action starts.

Both are great fun to play (especially against human opponents) but both require a different mindset to play effectively. Just a matter of taste really - good thing we're working on both :)

And to update you all on Lost Company, we're only a number of weeks away from releasing a skirmish mode that'll let you play against the AI or a friend on your device. It's most likely going to be a free release with a couple of levels so you can try it out. It will also have a few levels that you can purchase to help out with the development of the Single Player Campaign and Online Play. The two of us here at TOME Studios are working really hard on Lost Company (and Isochron) and we really need your support to keep things moving along. If you're a fan of Turn Based Strategies, help out the little guys and we'll be making a lot more TBS games to come.

I'll try to get a video of Lost Company running on my phone and up load it here soon too.. so stay tuned!

Well you can definitely mark me down for a copy! It sounds fantastic and I love the direction this game is going.

So, just to clarify, the game itself is free and comes with a few skirmish maps. You then have the option of buying more maps to help with further development of the campaign and online modes. Is that right?

One further question; when you play the same skirmish map, will the enemy/objectives be placed in random locations each time, or will the enemy have different loadouts etc? I'm just wondering about how re-playable it will be.

The current plan is to have this first skirmish version of the game free. It'll come with 1 or 2 free levels to play on but there will be some in app purchases to get more levels and other features. Any purchases will go straight towards developing the single player campaign and online play which will come later. Pricing for the campaign and online version will all depend on how much support we get from the skirmish version but we'll be making it as competitive as we can while still covering costs.

The skirmish mode will be most replayable against human opponents, but we plan to have some different loadouts for the AI to spice it up. We'll have a think about random start points too..

Sounds ideal. I'm an absolute sucker for these kind of games, so I'll definitely pick up the game with all the IAPs. I know there's some people that are against IAPs and just expect everything for free, but I think they need to realise that you guys have bills to pay!

I definitely think that giving the AI random loadouts and random placement will add a lot more variety to the Skirmish mode. I used to play an old Amiga game called Sabre Team religiously, and it had exactly that. Each time you played the map, the enemy and your objectives would be randomly placed - in Sabre Team you had to rescue hostages which were randomly located each time. I played the same map literally hundreds of times, and each time the enemy had different weapons, and the hostages were all over the place :) This really does add a lot of variety to the game, as some times it was much easier to beat the AI and save the hostages than others - all depending on the random element ;)

If you're toying with adding a "Capture the Checkpoints" mode in there, it would be quite nice to see random placement of these checkpoints as well, to prevent any repetition.

    Just my tuppenny-worth!

Will this be an universal app or will there be an HD and non-HD apps? Look forward to trying it soon.
