I'm not some dumb kid, so don't think this is an uneducated opinion. To be perfectly honest, I think you should work on releasing this game sooner, rather than later. The hype seems to be dying off. Also, once Final Fantasy Tactics comes out you're going to be in trouble. You need to beat them to the punch. As far as I'm concerned, there aren't any other decent games like this in the app store right now. You want to be the first. FFT will dominate, without a doubt. FFT may bring more buyers your way but it more likely will take buyers from you. Be wise. Release a quality game, but don't rest on it forever. This forum used to have lots of posts each day and now it hardly gets any. Use that as an example of why you need to speed it up! I can't wait for this game. Its obviously going to be a quality title!
Thanks for the concern. I wish we were just resting on this game but we're working very hard to get it out as soon as we possibly can. Like many indie teams we're finding that the business side of things are taking a serious chunk of our time and as a team of only two that means quite some time away from the development side of things. We're also very interested in fan feedback so we've showcased our idea much earlier than others which probably makes it difficult to estimate our timeline. Our Alpha was also a great success with many suggestions that are really required so that's going to take a bit of time too. So stay tuned. We will have some exciting updates very soon.
real time turn based online game? is it like you and your opponent can control at the same time and there is a waiting time for each unit after the move? or is it like you move all your units at once and then end the turn and the opponent makes a turn? i hope its the first one
I'll be getting this on day one of it's release. I'd really like to see more games like this in the app store. Turn based strategy is my all-time favorite genre.
I was gonna post on this thread a few months ago, but never got a chance to. I live for online games, and this one looks especially appealing. Take as much time as you need, just make this game one-of-a-kind. I'll be buying this day-one. Cheers!
Yeah, for 1 programmer and 1 artist it's a big project - but we've got all the skills under our belt to make it happen so we'll keep cranking until it's done. We're definitely getting very good at multitasking with Moj working on modelling/texturing/character design/concepting/level design/menu design/etc and me working on coding the engine/coding the game logic/coding the server/coding support tools/supporting all the platforms/etc. And of course we're both doing a fair share of business support and PR too. I'm amazed at what we can create with just two of us so now it's just a matter of getting it done.
Online multiplayer will be a 'I Go/You Go' system like your second option. This fits in much better with the server architecture and push notifications etc. We may look at a faster paced game mode though that's designed for playing in one sitting which would mean games could be played over game center etc. But that's something we'll look in to much later. Right now we've put the online multiplayer on hold. We've had a lot of feedback requesting a single player mode over a multiplayer one and when we planned it out it was going to take roughly the same time to fully balance the online game (especially with only 2 of us working on it) as it was to create the single player campaign. Without proper balancing, players were just choosing the same team over and over which made for some boring online matches. When the balancing issues are sorted out though we'll be including online play in the game once more.
And it's time for an update! Lots of things have been happening lately. A chunk of time has gone into setting up our company, and the rest has been working on a single player campaign. (And if you want a portrait retina version as background for your phone, you can get one here : http://www.tome-studios.com/Images/LostCompanyRetinaBackground.png ) The year is 1951, 15 Years after the end of the Great War… Play as Captain Jerry Cash, a respected war hero and guerilla fighter turned master thief and racketeer, recently granted freedom in return for temporary use of his valuable skills The League of Peace has sent Cash on a mission to extract a dangerous man from somewhere deep in the heart of New Europe. His target, Dr. Reginald Carnation, a mad scientist in the employ of the even madder General Mossevic, self-styled president of the nation of Wallislavia. Uncover the quirky plot and expand your squad with many new characters as you battle through the exciting single player campaign spanning an epic set of detailed and challenging missions. Find the ultimate combination of soldiers and abilities and put your skills to the test against the mad scientist's evil creations in missions ranging from stealthy recon to epic boss take downs. More to come soon!
And along with a single player campaign is a new interface layout that really helps with streamlining the game. It's also designed to work perfectly in portrait too!
Absolutely! We used to have buttons to rotate and pinch to zoom, but for added flexibility we now have two finger pinch to zoom and spin to rotate. And currently there is a button to switch between the 45 degree mode and a straight top down view
We have an end date on our plan that's pretty close but I'll have to discuss it with Moj before I can give more precise dates.
Wow I really like the fact you can rotate it from landscape to portrait. This is shaping up to look like one sleek game.
