      Can I still use my 3g as an ipod touch or does something happen if it isnt active? i would like to use it for working out instead of having to worry about using my phone.

      As long as you keep the SIM card in the phone, you can still use it as an iPod Touch.

      ok. now to do wifi only do you put it on airplane mode but turn on wifi? sorry if this question seems silly.

      No need to use airplane mode. Without a phone connection, your iPhone will automatically switch to WiFi only.

      In my opinion, if you have waited 6 months to upgrade, may as well wait another 6 months and just get the next version.
