If anyone's interested, I wrote a book that covers how to make a game in Cocos2D... Why is this relevant? Because throughout the book, Cubic! is created from the beginning stages up until release (as well as other mini projects when Cubic! isn't sufficient) You can order the book here: https://www.packtpub.com/game-development/mastering-cocos2d-game-development Enjoy!
Cubic! gets a 4.5 / 5 on AppAdvice's website: http://appadvice.com/review/cubic Also there's another German site that featured Cubic! : http://www.iplayapps.de/news/app-vorstellung/neues-premium-spiel-cubic-halb-strategie-halb-zahlen-puzzle-ganz-gelungen/21199/ YES Cubic! is still a great game and YES you should totally download it today. If you have any suggestions or comments, reply to this thread, PM me, email me... Whatever way you like haha Enjoy! -Alex
NineOverTen just reviewed Cubic! with a 5 / 5! Read the review here: http://www.nineoverten.com/2015/04/11/cubic-ios-review-2d-puzzler-with-infinite-replayability/ Click to download Cubic! now: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/cubic!/id963272905 Enjoy!
Thanks! Grey squares: Literally nothing lol. Honestly, they were there to help guide towards where the center is, but SOOO many people got confused that I just decided to remove them. And if people complain about them being gone? I can easily put them back in haha.
Ooh, great review! Well-deserved. I like the update a lot! I'm still not very good, but I am getting better. This is one of the most "just one more, just one more" games ever, IMO.
My highest is 57, but since the update I feel like it's much harder ( more enemies than I can handle). But maybe It's just me.
Only downloaded this today, so can't conment on what it was like before the update, but after 6 rounds my best is 116 turns, 473 points. Still haven't worked out the logic to the red tiles' pathfinding. The comment about the (no longer present) grey lines helping with this intrigues me and I have a theory now based on the App Store trailer. It probably won't help me though. Half the time with games like this I start to overthink it once I think I have a system, then get steadily worse!
Here's the real data BEFORE the update: turns_over_50 1,140 turns_under_20 7,696 turns_under_50 2,907 So as you can see, the ratio of under-20 to 21-50 was about 2.65:1 .... aka... for every game that someone got above 20 (and in the range of 21-50)... there were approx 2.65 games that someone got below 20. And to me, under-20 games make you wanna play more... but only in the right amounts. If every game you only survived 10? Annoying/boring. Every game you got to 100? Too easy.... So i want to see over the next week or so if the update brings the ratio more toward 2:1 or 3:2...
Are you creating multiple units? I know in the update I forced the new tutorial on people just in case they didn't really understand that part.. I've found it's best to always have a unit with a decent value near the center, as well as try to predict the enemies' movement and cut them off ahead of time, early
I've got a score of 1617 and round 210, although playing in sandbox mode. Create multiple yellow units working the center lines. Try to avoid mergin yellows and always keep at least one or two of them near the center. Good luck! Pedroapan
Keitgames' tips are pretty good. I'm trying to keep a balance between creating new units and not creating too many. If you have too many, they end up stuck at the edge and start losing value. Not enough and your total score doesn't rise fast enough. Also, don't be afraid to split your centre tile then merge it again occasionally. Splitting and merging again increases the centre tile's score by 4 in two turns, instead of just 2. Great for a last ditch defence.
Thank you to everyone who responded with tips! You have given me great information, ideas, renewed enthusiasm--and hope.
I'm looking at the scores in that screenshot and thinking woah! (Insert really impressed-looking icon here.)
