you will allways be riding the griffin. That's because he is also tied to the story.
And apart from that, Griffins are awesome :D

    Hehe, that's a great reason :D

Do you get to give your Griffin any sort of equipment or customizations?

we tried this during development but figured it was better to concentrate on items for the hero. Also we want to make items meaningfull, so we settled for 3 euqipmemt Slots/item types: weapons, armor and accessory (mostly rings). Weapons influence your offensive abilities, armor your defense and accessories your magic abilities. Naturally all of these can also influence other things like move speed, many different buffs and debuffs etc etc etc. we have a ton of interesting item effects that can lead to all kinds of different hero builds. but more of this soon :p

The World of Crystal Siege #2: hero and equipment

As promised, here is our next episode:

The World of Crystal Siege #2: hero equipment

Like I already mentioned, Crystal Siege is a mix between RPG and Tower defence. Today I want to focus more about the RPG aspects of the game.

In the world of Crystal Siege everything evolves around you, the hero. He is your avatar in the game world. The hero has the power to summon defensive towers, to cast magic spells and even engage in melee combat himself.
To do this he needs powerful equipment and we have a ton of those :D here is just a small excerpt from our selection of weapons:

So, as you can see you can use all sorts of melee weapons, we have: swords, daggers, hammers, maces, axes, clubs and even a trident :) So how many weapons in total are there? The answer is unlimited amounts. Like other premium RPG games we have an advanced item generator. So while some items might share the same look, stats are generated on the fly and it took us a big amount of time to make sure everything in here is balanced, but we are very happy with how it turned out.
Lets take a closer look at that purple battleaxe:

As before mentioned this item is purple, thus it has 4 effects. We also have white, green and blue items, which have 1-3 stats correspondingly. The main stat of the axe, like for all weapons is attack. That's the base damage it is able to dish out. But it will also give you leech mana, which does just what you would expect: each hit drains mana from enemies and gives it to your hero. It also has splash strike, which will also damage surrounding enemies. Finally, it adds attack range to towers that are near your hero.
We right now have 22 different stats/effects that an item can posses and naturally all of those can vary in strength. These 22 effects can be categorized in hero buffs, magic buffs, tower buffs and enemy debuffs.
We also have golden elite items, which are uniques and thus don't have random stats but very special and exciting effects. So far nine of these elite items exist in the game, 3 for each item type.

As I have already mentioned, we have 3 different items types: weapons, armors and accessories. Here is a screenshot of the Hero inventory screen to show you all 3 types:

As you already know, weapons man stat is damage.
Armor has 2 main stats: block enemies and move speed. The second is straight forward, it lets your hero move faster on the battlefield. But block enemies is more unique. Since the hero can engage in melee combat, out of the box he can bind one enemy into battle, essentially blocking him. But with good armor an hero can fight 4-5 enemies at once, essentially blocking a whole group and keeping them from advancing. Combine this with a strong tower that's in fire range and you have a pretty good combo ;)
Accessories also have 2 main stats, they are influencing your maximum mana and your mana recharge. Since your hero uses mana to keep in combat and to cast spells, mana is a very precious resource.

The final question is how you acquire all those equipment items? There are several ways. The most obvious one is the merchant. In between missions you can visit his shop and spend the money you got from missions on all kinds of items.
The second way is enemy drops. Powerful enemies and bosses (yes, we have boss battles) will drop items from time to time as well. Usually very powerful ones even.
And the third way is chests. At the end of each map you are presented with 5 chest, and based on your performance during the level you get 1, 2 or 3 keys. Depending on your choice of chests to open with those keys, you could end up with mana potions, a pile of money or even that epic item you have been looking for so long :D

I hope you enjoyed this in depth information about our hero equipment system. Next time I am gonna talk about the magic system and corresponding magic skill tree.

As usual, feel free to ask any questions you like!

    That all sounds awesome :D

Are you more likely to get epic loot when playing on a harder difficulty?

    good call ;)

Yes, you get a higher and better chance of loot drops from enemies and also from chests at the end of the mission. Since the amount of chests you can open is based on your star rating at the end of the mission a good player who plays on hard will have much more and better loot than an average player on normal.
Also higher difficulties give more xp and more gold (which you can also use to buy equipment).

Not really into the TD genre, but i've played and enjoyed a few, and im already liking this.

Plus... FDG. From what i've seen and played from them, their name is enough for me to get their game.
