Mostly, but there are also some other times when keeping the beat is important: - When using an obsidian weapon your damage is higher if you have a higher multiplier - When using obsidian armor you take less damage when you get hit if your multiplier is higher - When fighting the "King Conga" boss, if you miss a beat he'll come off his throne and attack you. And note that ever 8th beat is a "rest" in that battle! - When using the Shrine of Rhythm, you take damage if you miss a beat - When fighting ANY boss in "All Zones Mode", if you beat it flawlessly (take no damage and miss no beats) you'll be rewarded with a choice of 3 chests.
When playing with the bard (the turn based, no beat guy), if I unlock a zone with him, does it also unlock for the other characters?
While this is mostly correct, if you clear Zone 1 with anybody you'll unlock the All Zones mode for each of the characters you've unlocked so far.
Cool, they really did think of everything! I asked the question because the bard does feel a bit like cheating to me, or more like a practice mode.
He is definitely great for practicing, but hardcore NecroDancer players also like him a lot because he allows you to move FASTER if you want. So he's a lot of fun to use for speedruns And he also lets you stop and think, so if you're doing a score run, he really lets you optimize your score.
Zone 2 is really difficult for me to maintain the beat as the music isn't as jumpy and clear as in zone 1. A clearer base would go a long way!
If you're not already, try using headphones, much easier to pick up the beat - but also, I'm guessing the increased difficulty is probably intentional. Quick tip for everyone - probably already mentioned and I'm sure someone is going to make me feel like a complete newb for saying it - but just noticed that earth blocks that have diamonds hidden in them have a tiny sliver of blue/white visible, just a tiny fragment poking through. Worth keeping an eye open for.
If you pause the game while in the lobby you can select "Options" and then "Change Soundtrack" to change the soundtrack that is used for any given character. If you want an easier-to-discern beat, you may like the "A_RIVAL" soundtrack, but feel free to try all 5!
Picked this up a couple days ago, quickly falling head over heels for this gem of a game! Despite the fact that it's tough as nails and mostly what I've accomplished so far is very frequent death. Still not sure I'm "playing it right" but those moments when you get in the zone and clear a room full of baddies right on beat are thrilling! Playing on a 6+, and I just wish there was a way for the text & minimap to be bigger, and to be zoomed in a little closer to the action overall. The text is legible but small enough that I have to shift my focus entirely to read it.
I love this game (it's my absolute favorite right now) but I'm having trouble playing offline due to game center glitches (kind of like the ftl loading screen bug) so could am feature that disables Game Center support be implemented soon? EDIT: it gets stuck on the blitworks logo and it only plays properly when I hit the cancel button to sign into Game Center ;-;
It might not actually even matter anymore, since I'm so much more invested in iOS as a gaming platform than the PC, but is the iOS version identical to the PC version in content, gameplay and modes? EDIT: Hah. This plays exactly like I envisioned. Which is to say, brilliant.
