It was on normal. The extra items from 9 hour searches are nice, but extremely inefficient. You're much better off getting items from fighting and instant encounters (for instance your house gives you an instant search). Of course if you don't care about beating the game quickly then go for it. I pick dodge over critical. Remember that Melee characters get a free attack when they dodge. The AI focuses on Ranged heroes so dodge is good for them too. You're right that in late game critical is somewhat better than health if you have lots of HP.
Vivafringe: all I can say is wow! 7 days on Normal - quite a feat! I thought 12 days on Easy was nice (no speed boots though) but your observation of not searching houses is definitely interesting. Do you normally beat the game on Normal?
Yeah, I normally beat the game on Normal, even when playing very aggressively for time. There are a lot of skills I was able to carry over from similar games like Outwitters, FTL, Auro and Hoplite. My last 3 runs were 7d6h, 7d12h, 6d17h (a new record!). The 6d17h one was without speed boots, and was done by skipping the last 2 castles and just beelining for the bosses. Probably it's possible to get lower scores by skipping more and more of the final castles, but it's not clear what the limit is... you need to get XP/gold/items from somewhere and the early castles are a great way to do that.
To bulwarkstudios, please please please bring this to iPhone. I've already got it sort of running on a 6+ and apart from text size which isn't thaaat far off, it's a great fit. At least for 6/6+. Please consider this. It just sucks I've done the ipa edit on this, it runs, but it seems to hang when saving on my 6+ so I pretty much have to play in one big sit down which ain't happening. Please bring to iPhone as it would be the rogue type to have on the go.
This game would work quite well on an iPhone in my opinion, and going universal would definitely help shine some new light on this overlooked gem. I
Didn't have time to play yet after the update, but got something else: At the start of this thread I commented that I asked for a refund due to the then existing gamebreaking bugs and that apparently Apple left the game with me as "purchased" despite the refund. Well, looks like they are just a bit slow. More or less by accident I saw today that it no longer showed as purchased (I guess they only "reset" once a month or so), and re-bought right away Just wanted to throw that out there. Anyways, the offer to gift it to two people of your choosing of course still stands, BulwarkStudios.
Great game, really! Any plans for guture updates or expansions? A harder level would be a good challenge. Oh, and nicer endings.
Have played several games since the newest update with all mercenaries and have not encountered one issue regarding previous bugs. Game is playing flawlessly. I can't believe I am still playing this game and loving it after 60+ hours.
Would love to see additional content added as well. I am not holding my breath, however, simply because this game hasn't gotten nearly enough exposure for such a quality game with tremendous replay value.
I completely agree. The sad part is that you always see game review sites complaining that people don't buy premium games on mobile and that's why we get so much free to play crap. But you'd expect these sites to get behind and do their best to spread the word when a premium game is released, and not almost be universally ignored by those same sites.
Love this game but after my 20th walk through I still haven't fully grasped combat.. I'm sure it's explained somewhere in this thread.. I'll read up on it more when I get home from work
Combat can be very strategic based on the mercs in your party, the weapon and armor upgrades that you allocate, positioning on the battlefield and using your mercs in the best order each turn. Don't underestimate the value of your ranged mercs. I've had them take out the entire enemy by themselves on one turn (especially with Zoe).
Combat is all about using ranged units to knock down armor and having your melee units pin down enemies for opportunity attacks. I killed the Dark Knight in one turn by using Taunt and then surrounding him with melee units. He tried to hit my ranged unit and each time my three melee units beat the stuffing out of him.
Had a game where I had four ranged mercs and the hero. I didn't think it would go so well, but the group kicked ass. Having the hero with the "stand your ground" skill gave each ranged unit an extra attack per turn and they eventually would just wipe out groups in one or two turns. It turned out to be a surprisingly easy victory run.
I'm still fairly early in progression so I have only half the mercs unlocked and only the second archetype for the hero. Making do with what I've got
Unlocking mercs and their archetypes is part of the fun of the game. I actually deleted the game and then re-installed so I could go through the process of unlocks again. I've lost track of how many games I've played, but I still really enjoy the game. I still come across things I hadn't seen before after 60+ hours.
Thanks for the advice guys.. Using my ranged attackers to knock off armor and surrounding emenies with my melee mercs for opportunity shots has worked wonders. You guys kick ass ####.. Recently beat the game on easy.. Normal is a challenge! Was able to defeat commander barka before saving and quitting.. Will resume tomorrow.. Love everything about this game
Yeah, it takes a while to understand the underlying systems but once you've figured that out the game isn't that tough. Getting a good score can be challenging though. I managed to beat the game on normal on my fourth run with the spear guy, archer, sniper and knight. This was the same run where I oneshot the Dark Knight.
I have to remind myself to buy this game when I get back to my iPad. I'm traveling and Apple won't let you purchase an iPad game on an iPhone which is annoying! I hope I remember before the sale ends.
