I paid 4.99 for this game and honestly, I don't think it's worth 0.99 or even the space i your device if it goes free. This is personal of course, but for me it's just a pretty presentation with an extra boring game put together.
Great graphics if you own a new ipad or ipad 4. One of the best intros of any game. Game is ok, some think a little repetitive. But great ipad retina graphics.
I researched this game a while back when it was price reduced, I ended up finishing my research after it had gone back up so I added it to my watch list on Appsfire. When I got the alert last night that it was $0.99 ... I didn't wait around. I think the key here is knowing what the game is and weather or not the genre is of interest to you. For me it's got a little bit of freedom of exploration with levels that remind me in a weird way of Nights into Dreams (one of my favorite games of all time). So for me, it's cool. I love games with exploration. So far I've only had about 30 minutes with the game. Overall the exploration is nice but simple (just fly around looking for hot spots to trigger)... but the battles are where the game comes to life with an interesting energy system where you avoid incoming attacks and collect orbs to power up to launch your own attacks. Overall it's pretty intelligently designed. And in practice the boss battles do remind me a bit of the behind the back view during some bonus areas in Nights into Dreams. The audio is really quite excellent. I'm wearing headphones and it's cool to hear ambient noises coming in the direction I'm hearing them from. Despite the action the game is really good to chill to. I think this could be one for night time right before going to sleep. Is it worth a ton of money? No, but for $0.99 it's more than worth it for me... but I went into it having researched the game. Yeah silly for me to research a $0.99 game, but I don't want a bunch of games that I am not actually interested in and I have to be somewhat picky where my limited gaming dollars go.
Very nice review. Your opinion turned my probably not, into a probably will get the game. And that is saying something especially considering you are a new person here. BTW - welcome to TA! Oh, and I research lots of games, even free ones. So don't sweat the small stuff.
I agree. I bought it for .99 cents and enjoyed it a lot. It has IB style combat mechanics paired with a bit of exploration, and a file-size small enough for me to install, unlike batman and some of the other IB inspired games I've gotten. It also has a distinct atmosphere; Crow is distinctive in a way in which many other games that may be considered to emphasize style over substance aren't. I think this is well worth a buck, so I guess Mr.Biggles will have to choose who he thinks his tastes are more aligned with I'm a bit of a contrarian here though, I rarely care much for the most popular games each week; I prefer games that offer something or other distinctive. Edit: Just wanted to further agree with the member I quoted...I can't get into a non-casual game without top-notch audio. It's half of the immersion for me...I can't imagine having played so much Deus Ex without the excellent soundtrack for example. Maybe us headphone wearing gamers are biased
I've contemplated getting this game since it came out, with price drops to .99 a few times and always passed it up. I finally bit the bullet and bought it and I can't wait to try it out!
I got it last time it was a buck. I think it's a good game for chilling and exploring the world between on rails boss battle segments. It isn't Nights into Dreams... but the battle segments remind me of the behind the back parts of Nights. It was more than worth my buck. But I researched the heck out of the game first. I'm determined to avoid buying bad games.
