My fortune chicken is locked. Do we have to do something to unlock it? I just noticed that I actually have to tap in Festive Chicken to "buy" him. Feel sheepish

Play as the Fortune Chicken or Xi. I'm unsure of the exact unlock requirements, but I believe you need to collect the red packets with the Chinese Yuan symbol. Also, the hidden character seems to be yelling out some phrases in Chinese. As I'm not fluent in Chinese, does anyone want to give me a list of the expressions and their translations?
I unlocked CAI SHEN as well! I'm not sure how many red packets I obtained but I did notice I had 3 balloons following me when I died. Not sure if the packets are related to the ballons.

Has anyone figured out all the things Cai Shen says? Has anyone figured out all the things Cai Shen says when you play him? There seem to be 3-4 phrases in Chinese. The only one I'm sure of is Gongxi Facai (恭喜发财) which means something like "wishing you success." I think one might just be something like "Argh" when he dies. But that still leaves 2 more I can't identify.
Thanks for the information on unlocking Cai Shen. I've been trying to get one of the floating paper lanterns to be blown up by a firework, but haven't achieved the correct timing yet.

As soon as I saw Crossy Road, I was immediately reminded of Frogger with one key difference. Frogger ends. Crossy Road doesn't. The game's endless, making it incredibly addictive. As you'd expect, there is some challenge and skill involved. You have to successfully maneuver around vehicles and land on the lily pads in the water. It can be a bit challenging at times but it's all worth it to unlock a new character. Characters can range from humans to mammals to birds and even fish! One of the best things about the game are the graphics. They're like 3D 16-bit graphics from the SNES era and they look really good. Overall, Crossy Road is perhaps one of the best iOS games in its genre and much better than one of the previous crazes, Flappy Bird. Its addictiveness, graphics, and characters help it rise to the top of mobile gaming.
For anyone wondering: You have to enable IAPs to get Fortune Chicken for free. To get the secret character you have to collect 21 red packets which can be done over several games using Fortune Chicken or XI. And what's this about hitting the floating lanterns with fireworks?
