@squarezero dont get me wrong i am enjoying the game but i obviously seem to be having more probs with the menus than others. just for example when i'm trying to use an item in combat after 10 minutes of trying to actually get the itme i want to use for example a medium healing, i just give up and accept a light one or a biscuit. And this is not a hidden bug !!! which i know can always appear or be found - this is just to do with basic usability with quite truthfully should have been found and corrected in the first 5 minutes of beta testing. And going back to quote draxx -The menu controls were the most atrocious design choice I had ever seen in a videogame, almost to the point of me immediately deleting the game off my iPhone. Now you cannot tell me that is really acceptable in a $10 game for the iphone. ps and yes i know psp games, pc games etc are more expensive BUT that is totally beside the point, in the iphone market this is a premium title
I think that's the real issue here. I think perhaps you haven't played that many video games? Hyperbole much. Also, you've completely missed out the second part of his quote and missed the whole point of his post. Here is his ACTUAL post: Well, since a lot of people have much better control over the menus than you do, I think they kinda can.
You are misquoting him, soup, which isn't cool at all. He was talking about initial impressions. And that's my point: for people who get past the menu issue, it stops being a "bug," but rather an idiosyncrasy of the design. For those who don't it will keep bothering them time and time again.
after played for 17 hours, I don't have any problem on menu, item navigation or use medallion.... hahaha because i had been well training for hours and hours..now just get use to it. I MUST ADMIT I LOVE IT!!! P.S> after 17 hours still working on chapter 2 omg
Well i second that, as I said early you just have to swipe gently, I'm level 64 right now with 35 hours into the game, just beginning chapter 4 AND I LOVE IT!!! great purchase
I think someone wrote earlier that there was "no autosave" in this game. Just to be clear in case others are wondering, you can save and load on-the-fly in this game, from the "data" submenu. There are no save points. This was a major dealbreaker for some in Steam Pirates, but no problem here. Menus do take quite a bit of adjusting -- some kind of tutorial would have been a major help, and I suspect that would have cleared up a lot of frustration people experience at first. Even after mastering the menu system I've noticed some kinks in the touch sensitivity, especially on the equipment screen. For anyone stuck, keep in mind you can always run over to GameFAQs' PSP section and look up the game there if you don't mind spoilers. I think one GameFAQs user even made a spoiler-free walkthrough! Looks like the CrimsonGemSaga Facebook page is even starting to list skill trees and stuff. Has anyone managed to get the characters' regular attack combinations to work? I'm having a devil of a time with this -- you know how the "A" button will appear in the middle of the screen for a split second sometimes when a character delivers a normal attack? Spinel's got a freaking six-hit regular attack combo in the PSP version from what I've read, which sounds really uber. If everyone's had as much of a problem getting this battle feature to work as I have, I'm tempted to request that the amount of time that virtual button remains onscreen be lengthened considerably. For one thing, the PSP user always has his or her finger hovering over the physical controls necessary to execute this, whereas touching a virtual button that pops up onscreen involves greater reaction time. It's difficult to hold your iDevice with a finger hovering right in the middle of the screen waiting for this to happen.
When I use the normal attack I just keep pressing the area above the 2nd and 3rd characters. Sometimes it does the combo attack without even showing the 'A' button. It worked for every character, +38hrs in the game.
When you do a critical normal attack the button appears right after it connects in the middle of the screen. It's not that hard to hit it but I often forget to move my finger to the middle of the screen. Also, the psp game makes sure you can't do it by button mashing so that must have transferred over as well
A tip for those getting annoyed by the slow movement speed or monsters ambushing them too easily: If you're near Habsburg, if you go all the way west of the Latein desert (there's a well at the bottom-left corner of the 'Habsburg Entrance' that will warp you there) you'll be on a bridge leading to Mt. Bloodyhorn with a merchant on it. This merchant sells a pair of boots called Mercury Boots that when worn by Killian, will greatly increase your movement speed outside of battle. It's a massive help for setting up ambushes (you're fast enough to outrun monsters that spot you now) and generally just travelling quicker.
Finally beaten Il Diavolo, only used 2 Mandate of Heaven but bought 18 of them XD Party I used was Killian (lvl99), Spinel (lvl97), Lahduk (lvl95), Acelora (lvl99), best skills were all fully upgraded. Now onto finishing the game *select all for possible spoiler*
menu UI question - item upgrades (Maybe this has been dealt with earlier.. I didn't find it in my skim through the thread, but entirely possible I missed it. If so, apologies.) I have a very targeted UI question -- what's the trick for correctly navigating the equipment menus when you're trying to apply item upgrades? I've gotten used to all the other menu quirks, but this one is still stumping me. I've yet to successfully upgrade the piece of equipment that I intended to. It always seems to get applied to something else and I wind up confirming it unintentionally while trying to move to a different piece of equipment. Other than that, enjoying this game. Thanks for any tips.
Haha thanks and the max level is unfortunately 99 When playing the game (during fights and walking around) I use my thumbs. When using the menu I swipe and scroll down with my right index finger. I think I have average sized male hands Sometimes I do go to a different equipment, but most of the times I can navigate through the equipment menu quite easily. Hope this works for you if you're using a different method. *SPOILER BELOW, select all to see* So I just finished the game, the last bosses were way to easy compared to Il Diavolo. Didn't use any Mandate of Heaven and there was no fight with Dryden . I also read that the PSP version has a New Game+. I watched the ending, didn't skip anything but there was no New Game+. Did the developers intentionally leave that option out?
Best advice EVAR! Thanks for that Edeku! What a way to reward exploration, I'm so glad that's in there. I've finally made a bit of progress on these combination attacks. Seems it's best to hit the appropriate area of the screen at the very same moment the character's attack voice sample is played. Even waiting for the "A" to appear is too late at least for me, because my reaction time is just to slow on this. Simulated, what item upgrades are you using? The different "cards" that are supposed to add stats? I just tried a "Joker Card" and it didn't make any noticeable difference in the stats of the weapon I used it on or the weapon below, but maybe these effects aren't recorded on the menu screen?
Game engine is simply phenominal but is really bogged down by the controls. I really hope they do get touch optomised and not just a fixed virtual d-pad (not that that's bad, but it would maximise the experience). Just based on my 2-3 hours experience with the game, i'd like to suggest (probably re-suggest actually i'm sure this has all been said) the following: - In regard to menu's, not all the designs are entirely THAT BAD. However, i'd like to suggest that instead of clicking out on nothing to take you to the menu up, have a "back" button or something to that extent to reduce frustration, nobody likes the idea of clicking nothing by accident and having to re-navigate. Kinetic scrolling is also ftw if you're keeping with the touch controls. If not, virtual d-pad will more than suffice - In battles, touch or virtual D-pad are both good so long as it's consistant with the menu design. Currently, selecting anything is a pain in the arse, but if the menu is fixed and is carried over there should be no drama. very figidity at the moment - The d-pad idea currently implemented for world navigation is actually quite intuative, but it is a bit awkward when you slide off the side of the screen, perhaps a sensitivity issue? (and the idea of the optional fixed D-pad is great if the current d-pad can't be completely fixed). All the other bugs in my opinion should take a back seat to the controls as they really take away from what will be a truly awesome experience for our iDevices. Either way, i'm not at all discouraged by my purchase and i have faith you guys will enhance the experience Looking forward to giving feedback on continuing updates. edit: that being said, the game is still very very playable
Very good recapitulation for the devs, thanks. Let me say again that these bugs shouldn't be there and should be fixed - on the other side is Crimson Gem Saga the deepest, longest and visually best traditional JRPG on the iPhone for now (well, unless S/E brings their exclusive FF installment for the iPhone) and every RPG fan should have it. It is funny, the characters have quite some personality and the game itself is really addicting. There is so much to see, explore and do... again and again I am wondering about the loads of things the devs have put into this game. So, even if there are some bugs and control problems, you can't compare these small problems with the fun you have while playing CGS.
Just finished (completely) Chaos Rings...downloading this one. Not sure what to expect after reading so diverging comments, but I'm curious and, if this will mean more RPG titles for the iPhone, I want to support devs as I can. Hoping to read a cool story (not necessarily 'new' or 'original'), fun gameplay, not too much grinding, interesting characters (even if I do not like a lot the 'children' design). I guess I'll be used to the controls as many others. While skeptical at first, I really loved Chaos Rings...superb story and cool characters...and considering I love most exploration in a RPG exploration, and in Chaos Rings there is almost no exploration at all.... The only thing I would have preferred in Chaos Rings (aside not having to revisit same zones over and over, even if the story take care of that PERFECTLY) is 2D graphics...I'm not really fond of 3D in the iPhone. Guess for this part I'll be ok, graphics in Crimson Gem seems really wonderful.
