As happy as I am to see those come to the iPhone, I'm actually more excited to see lesser known games like this one on the platform. Most people who care about this genre have played the classics, after all, while CGS is new to most folks.
I found the monk! Finally!! Total 20,000G he gives you. 10,000G for finding him, another 10,000G if you keep talking to him. He's hiding behind the item shop in the beginning town. Also, be sure to check every spot, like mail box, table, closet, cup, barrel, etc, in every town, lots hidden free stuff for your journey
Totally agree. The more I play this game, the more I love it. Gorgeous hand-drawn 2D art and sprites, great localization, and an interesting character/party development system. I want to see more RPGs like Crimson Gem Saga on iPhone. Also, I've encountered no bugs so far and have gotten quite used to the menu swipe controls. Totally fine by me, not broken at all. In fact, the menu controls are growing on me. I changed the d-pad to be static and it's been great. Hands-down the best RPG on iphone.
I never did finish Secret of Mana back in the day so I'm actually really looking forward to it. However, if Chrono Trigger ever comes to the iphone I'll be the happiest gamer in the universe. That's by far my favorite game of all time. Would be great to play through it again.
I think you can actually get 50,000G at the beginning town. I haven't tried it but if anyone is interested and test if this works, be my guest "Exit the Academy and head for the fountain, ok now that you're here have Killian do "Merry Go Round" five times around the fountain and a chest will pop up, inside there's 50,000 Gelders............ HEHEHE!!!!!"
To do follow-up attacks on the iPhone version is pretty simple. It only happens every now and then, but I think the chances go up with more willpower and a higher critical chance. Anyway, if you have one of your characters do a physical attack (just a normal, non-mp consuming attack with their weapon) and they land a critical, there is a chance that an 'A' button will appear on the bottom of the screen. It's exact location is slightly above the line between the second character bar and the third bar (the bars being the things on the bottom of the fight screen with your character info). So once it appears, mash the hell out of it, and the character in question will do their follow up attack. However, this only works with critical hits, and doesn't work if the attack would have killed the enemy. Also, it will never happen for mp-consuming attacks. Lahduk's is definitely the strongest
Thank god for the free wifi in this hotel which I'm staying overnight in. I almost don't think i'l need a holiday with something this good out and about!
Yea, I read that but I have no idea what "merry go round" means. I ran around the fountain a bunch of times and no chest appeared. Anyone know anything about this?
I found out about some of the VAs behind this game. Many did main character voice over for Bleach, Naruto, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Trigun, Full Metal Alchemist, etc. I haven't gotten to other party members yet, but so far Killian's VA did an excellent job, very emotionally involved. Spinel's VA as well. I love when she yells "Jerk!", "Loser!", "Creep!". Troy Baker - Killian List of characters Voices Over Laura Bailey - Spinel List of characters Voiced Over Dave Wittenberg - Henson List of characters Voiced Over Lex Lang - Gelts List of characters Voiced Over David Lodge - Lahduk List of characters Voices Over Karen Strassman - Acelora List of characters Voiced Over ??? - Herbert Von Guterrian Michael McConnohie - Cardinal List of characters Voiced Over Yuri Lowenthal - Elluard List of characters Voiced Over Karen Strassman - Stephanie List of characters Voiced Over ??? - Jeffrey
Easily 30+. I've clocked almost 11 and I'm still on the second Wicked Stone (got way lost in a dungeon -- thankfully you can find maps online). And we're not talking rinse-'n-repeat Zenonia style either.
Sounds awesome. I have a huge backlog of iPhone games since I've hardly touched a console or iPhone game most of the summer. Still, I need to check this out. I always love to see a good RPG. Do you recommend it? I always seem to agree with your opinions on games, especially RPG's.
And this game has New Game+ where you get to access some extra areas where you couldn't access during the first play.
My thoughts exactly. Love this game This platform needs more of this type of RPG. Seems like there's more action RPG's on the appstore than turn based which I think I prefer the strategy of them more.
I absolutely love it, but to be fair, there's a range of opinion on this thread. Basically, they can be summarized as follows: * Everybody seems to love (or at least really like) the underlying game and see it as an unprecedented title on the platform. * There's a general disagreement on the port itself. Pretty much everyone seems to acknowledge that it's very stable, with an excellent framerate and top-notch graphics, animation, voice overs, and translation. The controls, however, are a more controversial subject. The default directional control is designed to float (like Chaos Rings) but is not well implemented; the fixed d-pad option works a lot better. The real issue for people is the menu system which, depending on who you are, is either: 1) completely broken; 2) awkward but usable; or 3) has a bit of a learning curve, but is otherwise fine. Personally, I'm on camp #3, but you'll find examples of 1 and 2 on this thread. The good news is that the developer is active on the thread, and the one real bug that has surfaced (something having to do with early skill upgrades) is already being looked at. Personally, I think they should also tweak the sensitivity of the menu scrolling (even though I'm used to it) and simplify some of the selection techniques. I think it's important to keep in mind that the original PSP game still sells for $30 on PSN, and this version has the same amount of content, same graphics, etc. I have a particular fondness for Chaos Rings, which felt to me like an RPG made for grown-ups, but objectively CGS is a much bigger game, and perhaps a better example of the JRPG genre.
Found this on the GFaqs board after spending 15 minutes reading. Unfortunately the creator only made the chart for Killian and Spinel only.
What the hell is that secret dug Well I'm in chapter 2, found a dug Well at lower left corner of Habsburg Entrance, you drop to the bottom when you step on it, where a merchant selling super expensive stuff, most of them cost 30k... the monster are super tough, one hit causing 150+ damage, I die for sure... don't know what else is on the left and right exit, anyone try be there yet? just curious
