No: it freezes the app by suspending the process (so processing cycles are freed up and battery is not consumed), but it remains in RAM, at least partially. And the task manager will automatically flush it if it needs the space. This has been an issue with a couple of betas I've been working on.
Ah, gotcha. But at the very least, the user can gain the ability to not loose their progress right then and there if they get an interrupt in the form of a call or text or whatever. I assume the flushing goes in order of the apps that have been sitting in ram the longest? Or does it dump whichever is holding the most? Just curious, I've never gotten any info about how exactly it works. Interesting info ^.^
Not sure how it prioritizes processes, though I'm sure that time is involved. But when you have a process that takes up 80-90% of available RAM, you can be sure that it will be taken down real quick. I agree, though, that it would be nice to have that anyway for the quick interruption. But I just don't think it will be as useful as people think it will be. Autosave would be a much better feature, IMO.
Yeah, there are probably a lot of people who don't have access to multitasking either, whereas an autosave function benefits the whole audience.
I vote for both Is it known that this game does indeed take up 80-90% of memory? And if so, for which device. Because memory varies wildly from idevice to idevice. Some it's 128, 256, 512... Since we're talking about fast app switching and the iphone 3g doesn't support that it's a toss up between 256 and 512 I'm guessing.
I disagree with holding back features because not everyone has a device that can benefit from it. From what I've read (which isn't much and is probably woefully inaccurate, lol) is that it isn't that difficult to implement fast app switching. I think there are more than enough iphone 3GS's and iPhone 4's out there to justify the addition.
I'm thinking the 3Gs, and I pulled that percentage right out my *ss for the most part. I use System Activity Monitor (the non-jailbroken SBSettings) to see how much RAM I have before and after I finish playing, which is not a perfect method by any means (basically, I'm seeing the residual memory effect). Clearly, though, the game has a major memory impact. And yes, fast-app-switching would be easier to implement than auto-save.
Well I'm not saying they shouldn't do it entirely, just have it lower on the priority list (i.e. do it afterwards). The autosave benefits every device, so it makes more sense to implement that first, then the 3GS/4 owners can have their functions afterwards.
Menu goes ape sht when you try and level up your skills withe Medallion item. I've had to restart everytime. And if you do add an auto save, PLEASE DON'T HAVE IT OVER WRITE MANUAL SAVE. there should be a load game, and a continue option. I've had games where I try to experiment with combining items, or spending all my money on items, and expect everything to go back to normal after I load game, only to find That the game autosaved over, and now I lost all my items I sold, and expended all my points on useless skills. One file for manual saves. And a separate "continue" option for auto saves. And minor bug fixes we are all finding, of course. Over all, game is getting better and better. Keep up the great work!!
Auto save (continue button separate from load files) > FAS. You'd have to restart your phone, everytime a buggy menu locked you out of the game, because theoretically, it will put you right back where you left off. At least when it comes to this game and it's stage.
The buggy menu thing is only with the bronze medallion, and you don't have to quit the game -- just use all of them (you can even switch characters). With the other medallions you can leave the menu by touching the status bar on the bottom. And yes, I agree completely about not overwriting the manual saves. I usually keep two active saves, alternating between them. In my experience, a save game strategy is integral to RPG gameplay. It boggles my mind that someone would play a game like this for over an hour without saving.
There are RPG games I won't mention that only use auto save. And I have too many bronze to use them all. Plus, I'm not exhausting all of one item to work around a bug. I just won't use them until it is corrected. Makes for a more interesting strategy, lol.
If you can't use any more then you can back out normally I got three from the first quest where you get the galorian horns (right before you find that monk that gives you 10,000 bucks) I used two and backed out normally, I didn't even know there was a bug until I heard people saying something
No quest, you just have to find him in the first town. But I didn't find him until after taking the quest. It was awesome to grab weapons, armors, and items before heading to the dark spire. I was loaded to the rafters!
I don't remember getting that much. I'm pretty sure I stole 10k from someones house, though, lol. And some armor.
