So, I got the game too, and I've noted a few bugs (I use a 16g 2nd gen iTouch):

    - A bunch of crashing bugs: one happened as the Principal finished his speech, and another happened after I got out of the Principal's office. One crash completely froze my iTouch.
    - Sometimes the principal skips over his dialogue when the voice-over appears. This happened during the graduation and during the scene in his office.
    - Not sure if this is a bug, but others have mentioned it: the analog stick is somewhat "gimmicky". It doesn't stay in one spot when I use it to move the character. Is there a way to make it stay in one spot?

So, despite those bugs, I really enjoy the game! It's great that more and more JRPG's are making its way to the App-Store. So, keep up the good work and looking forward to further updates!

Well, the main issues (along with the medallion thing):
-The floating d-pad doesn't stay in place, it moves with your finger. It would be better if the d-pad stays where it is when you're moving around.
-For the fixed d-pad, it should be able to be moved around by the player via some sort of options setting.
-The menu scrolling is too sensitive/jittery.
-The voiceovers sometimes don't match the text during conversations, which is strange.

There are probably others, but I think those should be at the top of your priority list.

On the main screen, go to the options menu and choose Fixed D-pad.

On crashes: I'm on a 3Gs and have had 0 crashes in 7 hours of gameplay, so I'm almost certain that yours are memory related. Restarting every time you play, or at least force-quitting Safari and Mail, may help with that. You also didn't mention whether your device is jailbroken (the fact that you're on 3.x makes suspect you are). If you are, using SB Settings to quit active processes would also help. This is a big game, and memory will always be an issue on older devices.

I have the same device, and I did not crash once. Did you reboot your device properly?

Even with the "fixed" d-pad the knob of the dpad will go ALL over the screen if you move your finger off.

It would be preferable to have a static movement stick and allow the user to customize it's size/location/transparency.

Personally, I'd like to place a little more into the lower left hand corner of the screen. Feels like it's way too far up n out for my liking.

For what it's worth, a few hours of playing on my 2G, no crashes, not even a slowdown.

My iTouch isn't jailbroken, but I have barely any memory left (like 300 mb left). That must be the problem then. Thanks!

I think he was talking about RAM, not storage memory.

Actually -- that's a good thing: it means that the d-pad will not stop working if you mistakenly slide your finger off the "active" area. With the current system I have no problems sneaking up on enemies to get that big surprise attack :).

@Eduku: I was, but running big games with little hard drive space can also produce weird effects in my experience.

No, customization is a good thing. Give players a choice and let them choose whichever d-pad works for them. Personally, I like that it's an 8 way stick. But I don't like the "slide off" effect. Not the positioning.

Would be nice to be able to change those in the options menu.

I played another game (I really can't remember the name) which didn't have the slide off effect, and it just got really annoying, since I'd stop moving every time my finger went off the d-pad. The slide off thing is much more preferable, in my experience.

Then again, a fully customisable d-pad would be more preferable then anything.

That and multitasking via fast app switching. Games these days really need to have this feature. Especially for games like this. If I get a call during a game of doodle jump, whatever. But with rpg's we're talking hours of progress that could potentially get wiped.

I hear ya. Zenonia 2 had a dad without slide off and I never had an issue with it. The lack of 8 way directional movement was a killer for me, though.

I did love the ability to scale my dpad and change the location

I can easily agree with the idea that customization is the best way to go.

I think the autosave would be good, too. That, or perhaps a quicksave button at the top somewhere, like the one in Chaos Rings, which makes saving far less hassle.

I think it's different with Zenonia/2 though. That game was built strictly on a grid-based movement system, to make 8-way directional movement would have been a lot more than just changing the d-pad, they would have had to change the whole grid system, make new sprites to accomodate every creatures' diagonal movements (including the player), change the combat a little to accomodate diagonal fighting etc.

There's been a couple of games that use the "single-button" save method, and it doesn't seem like it would be a big issue to set it up. As far as I understand it, instituting an auto-save feature on a ported game is a non-trivial task, so my guess is that we're not going to see that any time soon (could be wrong about that). Fast-app switching is less useful than people think on big applications like CGS, since the system will flush the process at the slightest provocation. Chances are that when you came back from your phone call the current game would be gone.

Agreed. But with this game the quality of the game itself seems fairly high. The porting quality, unfortunately, needs some work.

Don't get me wrong, it's not the end of the world. And as long as they at the very least add multitasking support for iOS4, I'll be a happy camper.

I just think the UI in general could use some tweaking via updates.

Folks, you really need to spend some time with bad iPhone ports, if only for educational purposes. I keep going back to Zenonia 2, mainly because the game was released with a character-killing bug that made me lose over 5 hours worth of progress -- and that was on top of a myriad of crashing bugs, all on a game that originally ran on cellphones. But there are many, many other bad ports, with sins that included: poor framerates, poorly scaled graphics, lack of save spots, gimped content, unusable controls, general instability and constant crashing, and so on. Crimsom Gem Saga is a game of a size, scope, and complexity that we have rarely seen in the App Store, and it was ported not by Atlus, Square Enix, or Capcom, (big companies with deep pockets), but by a relatively small outfit.

As far as I'm concerned, this is a great port that has a few real issues.

As far as fast app switching doesn't it just put the game in a "freeze" state and dump it into memory?
