It seems like most of the feature are referred to Don't Starve, buttons are just switched here and there...
God, a v-stick? Do you guys know this isn't a nintendo DS. I will never understand how people prefer virtual d-pads and v-sticks on touch devices. It's cramped, unnatural and just feels wrong. It's a really outdated way of thinking about touch controls and stems from the days where mobile best practices were poorly understood. The days where people thought that v-stick controlled FPS games on iphone would be the next best thing, and not something people would abandon after a week when they got fed up with the controls.
The touch controls may be fine but I just wish there was an option for other controls. I will still buy it because it looks awesome, the trailer is hilarious and the story behind the game is worth throwing $5 at.
Wow end of rant? Haha it's ok that some of us want a vstick and don't think it's "outdated" ###... Just saying it doesn't need to be an argument. Easily my most anticipated game right now!!
Virtual sticks have their place, but not in every game. And definitely not in this game, IMO. Imagine Flight Control with a virtual stick. Sure it would technically work, you could navigate a cursor over to a plane using a vstick, click and hold a virtual button and then drag the path you wanted the plane to follow. Then let go of the button, move your cursor to the next plane, and repeat. Now think about how frantic Flight Control gets and imagine trying to have to control it that way. That's sort of how Crashlands works. When battling multiple enemies at once, you're constantly dodging their attacks and oftentimes needing to juggle between which enemies you're attacking. The action can be so fast that the only real way to manage all this is by being able to quickly tap here to move, tap there to dodge, tap that enemy to start attacking, etc. It would just all fall apart trying to do that with a virtual stick and button. Like, it'd be possible I guess, but it would be a poor experience. Beyond that, just roaming around the world and performing actions would be an exercise in annoyance as you try to line up properly next to that tree so you can tap a button over and over to chop it down and harvest its resources. Or, instead, you can simply tap on that tree and your little character will cheerily bounce on over to it and just chop it down and collect the resources, all automatically with just that one tap. Breaking down objects and harvesting resources is something you do hundreds if not thousands of times during the game. Having to do it manually with virtual controls each time would suck. Sure it's nice to give people options, and they COULD put in a vstick as an option, but it would be a poorer experience IMO, and I think most devs don't want to give people the option to play a shittier version of their game even if they're asking for it. Anyway, that's just my experience. Perhaps the tap-to-do-stuff controls in Crashlands won't be certain peoples' cup of tea, and that's fine. Perhaps there IS a way a virtual stick method could be implemented that wouldn't make the game suck ass. But the bottom line is I implore everybody to not make a judgement until they've actually played the game themselves. The thing that drives me nuts is people just dismissing a game before even trying it because it doesn't have "X" feature or option. This game was crafted from the ground up for touchscreens and it shows, so give it a chance first is all I'm saying.
Okay but it gets messy if you fight an enemy to your left while another enemy approaches from the right. Your hand covers that side of the screen and you cant see the enemy, neither their red outlined attack range. That's how I imagine it. Maybe I'm wrong, though. I can only judge on the ganeplay videos and other similar games I've played so far.
Only 6 days until I'm able to test it for myself. I've got the other BS games and I love all the BS game structure as a whole: the Perks relating the games, the simplicity of each game, etc. I love what I'm seeing of Crashlands.
I really don't care about the control scheme, I just want to be able to play Crashlands and be able to do random stuff.
Touch controls only? Bluck! I dislike touch controls because it abstract you from the game. It make you feel like you're playing a point and click adventure instead of being immersed into real time gameplay.
Sorry this made me laugh a little. These are touch devices were playing on. It seems counterintuitive to go against what the platform uses naturally. It's up to the developer to make it work well.
Yeah, that true. I didn't like touch to move controls in Bastion however I really like Galactic Keep. I'm keeping an open mind about it all. I was just merely giving an opinion like everyone else.
Looking forward to play this game. People complaining that mobile games have touch controls? Its like complaining that pc games have mouse controls løl
SO EXCITED!!! So is this dropping Wednesday night with the usual update time or sometime on Thursday? I have a trip coming up with some layovers so I'm SUPER grateful it will be out just before I leave!!
No idea, but if size's as the other BS games, just grab it through 3G if you're on the go btw, I really hope iOS versions supported are as the other BS titles. I'm on iOS 7.1.2 and I'd hate not being able to play this one due to iOS8+ restriction...
Well I leave Sunday but I appreciate you looking out for my data bill Also it's amusing reading this debate about v-stick vs touch to move. This game is gonna be awesome even with tilt to move and shake to select!!
Tilt to move and shake to select? LOL'd! What would people think of us in buses? "Look at that guy... Maybe he's playing a game of making cocktails on his phone?"
