New beta release Alright, this has been a long time coming. I'm excited to announce a new build of the game. It's taken me months to get to this point but I assure you it was worth it and will enable me to put new changes in much quicker from now on. There's so many changes that have gone in that I'm only going to summarise the most notable ones. Here's the release notes: New Engine - I've completely re-written the entire game using Unity. This was crucial to allow me to put in new features quickly. It also should improve performance and fix some old bugs. Catch up camera system - This is a big one! The camera now catches up with the player instead of at a fixed pace. This means that the game is now faster and (probably) a little harder initially. Collectables might be harder but this is part of a gameplay change experiment. I want to see what people think of the new camera system as a whole before I start changing the levels. If it works then I'll make the levels easier to match the new speed. Best times - There's now a timer under the score in the game and also displayed on the menu scores. The new camera system allows players to do speed runs! Particles - Leaves now fall on Stage 1, Act 1 along with floating dust particles. Also, stage 2 now has animated bobbing ice blocks in the background and snow particles on Stage 2, Act 1. I've restricted the particles to only two levels for now as I want to make sure it's not slowing down the game on older devices. Intro curtain - A level introduction curtain appears at the start of the level. If you've played the old Sonic games before you'll be familiar with what I'm talking about. Analytics - I really appreciate the people that comment and provide feedback, that's really important to me to make the game better and gives me some of my best ideas! For those that don't have the time to provide feedback (god bless em') I will be capturing their progression in the game. I'll know exactly where they're dying, what their scores are, when they stopped playing the game and how long they played for. This is important because it helps me identify where the game is either too hard or too boring so I can fix it. Portals disappear after warping - This is part of a bigger experiment too. I'm thinking of introducing multiple portals down the line and I want to see how this change impacts players. Other changes - Brand new menus, menu music and death music
