I didn't buy because the second one is not available yet. However, I grabbed the first one and Steins.

Sorry but no matter which way you slice it, £30 for visual novel / game that's a port on to mobile is not worth £30

I mean you can buy the physical vita version for £12.99 new!

Yep, I admit the prices are steep. Not sure what the Vita price was on release, though. Probably nearer the current iOS price. Steins;Gate is in the same ball park - I was very pleased when it went on sale.

5pb games seem to go on sale roughly once a year, so if you're interested, I suggest you keep it on your wishlist.

    Wow, really?
And the price is significantly more than the first game's current non-sale price. $18 vs $32. (USD.)
I'm surprised it went over $30.

    The price is scary. :p

(I don't usually comment on prices, but this instance seemed relatively high even compared to some of their other games (Corpse Party: $18. Steins Gate: $25.)
and everyone else was talking about the price, so...
Also, I couldn't resist the pun.)

Completely agree. This price is far beyond what I'm willing to pay for any IOS game.

(Not at you Orangutan, you are just who got quoted here)

Corpse Party Blood Drive goes for $29.99 on PSN. Its original retail and PSN price was $39.99. I can't find anywhere that sells a new copy of the Vita version for less than $25. Its original retail price in Japan on Vita was around ¥7500, or about $80.

They introduced the game on mobile at a discount. As Orangutan says here, it will surely be on sale again within the next year. As it's a fairly new game even on Vita and JP mobile customers don't mind paying a reasonable price for such things, you'll either have to wait for another sale or just give up on it. This is the cost of having a sustainable market for big-name mobile releases that aren't ports of 20 year old games. 5pb has had a ton of success pricing in this range, so it's obviously working for them.

That said, if you can get the Vita game for 12 quid, that's obviously a better value and I suggest you go for it.

That's the better value, then. Fair warning, though: the Vita version has severe technical issues that were corrected in the iOS port. I'd just wait for the next sale, to be honest.

Either way, just because an older (and inferior) version has been discounted since its release, that doesn't mean all future versions need to charge the same or less. GTA 5 on PS3 sells for under $20, but no one is complaining about paying $35 for the PS4 version. This isn't any different apart from the fact that mobile gamers have a distorted sense of value due to how rock-bottom prices are in general on the platform.

I dont think alot of mobile gamers think like that, i think many like myself have spent hundreds in the app store and on premium only, but when something is priced this high! Your darn tooting some are going to not want to spend that sort of cash. For example the currency climate in the uk right now, things are very expensive, everyday living things. So when spending on something that is a novelty you really need to weigh the pros and cons of buying.
I purchased the iphone corpse party on your recommendation no problems at all, at its full price, including steins gate. But this seems a bit past what im willing to spend, well for this title anyway. But its like you said im sure a sale will come along eventually. Has anyone paid this price on this for this game and can say its worth it for the content?
( p.s i know about the point of it being more on certain platforms but at the end of the day, mobile IS a diffrent type of market, and the expectation of game prices and this trend were set by apple and the devs long ago)

Okay, but 5pb has never followed that trend. They give a slight discount on the mobile versions of their games but keep them in the same ballpark as the other versions they sell. This strategy has paid off for them, as games like Steins;Gate have ended up selling more on mobile than any other platform. Their audience, by and large, recognizes the value of their work and the fact that the mobile versions are either the same or better than other versions.

Now, is this particular game worth paying a high price? My answer is the same at $25 as it is at $5: Without Book of Shadows available in English on mobile, I would say no, unless you played that on another platform and want a technically competent version of Blood Drive to play.

But the key here is that 5pb's pricing strategy would collapse if they started slashing the sticker price of certain titles on mobile vis a vis other platforms. Thus, if 5pb or their partners are selling Blood Drive for ~$25 on other platforms, they need to do the same on mobile lest it hurt the rest of their mobile line-up that is worth every penny.

Basically, you can balk at the poor release strategy of Blood Drive or its many design flaws, but if we want to see the App Store be a place where premium titles can thrive as they would on other platforms, we probably shouldn't be so quick to complain when a publisher prices their games in accordance with that aim.

    That's my peace on it.

Ok i get it, they stay within the price range they sell this gaming product on other platforms. Then that makes complete sense to me then why its that price and if thats the case absolutely all devs should follow that trend, maybe other console gamers would not look down as much on mobile if things were priced the same, but i guess thats neither here nor there.
Its a shame about a game being skipped, book of shadows, as im one to play things in order, now im on the fence about getting this at all even if it was in a sale? Hopefully maybe they will release book of shadows soon???
Will thanks for educating me on their pricing structure, it makes sense.

Shaun, I've played the original one on PSP, and watched the movie of Book of Shadow (didn't play the game though). Do you think it should be sufficient to pick this one up and not get confused with the plot?

I read your review, and I actually like that it's less scary (because of the 3D chibi style). The original one was too scary for me, I end up having my boyfriend playing half of the game :p
