Universal Cops - On Patrol (by Behaviour Interactive Inc.)

Do not support this game if you are someone who finds that going from premium to freemium (same game) is not the right thing to do. I paid $4.99 for this junk but I've just face palmed myself as this became free to play and I got screwed out of $5 plus tax.

Note to self: Listen to what people on the forums say a wee bit more.

Smash Cops and Smash Bandits are sooo much better in terms of variety, quality, quality assurance, polish and gameplay.

 

In the actual update, they did not mention anything about switching to in app purchases. I double checked and all that was mentioned were bug fixes, optimizations, logging into FB for iCloud, and the addition of a couple of vehicles. I believe I paid $4.99, but either way, games that switch to freemium should mention it in their updates. I have every right to my opinion as do you. Lately I've been coming under a lot of scrutinization for stating my opinion. If you'd like, I can change my avatar.

Jared, I did not notice there was a benefit regarding a shortcut but that's what some freemium games do. After updating, playing, and realizing this became freemium, I was turned off from the get go, so insta-delete.

As for classic freemium, I think you would agree that coin doublers and ad removers are great, but consumables are often cash-ins.

I'm coming out of the Angry Birds closet! I used to be obsessed with this series. Every single game! I'd say Angry Birds Wh*redom is accurate. Can't afford it anymore. Angry Birds 2. Hugest mistake. Thank God I've got some Radiangames to beat among others that are on the iPad. Decluster Decluster Xero as well.

Game is on sale right now for $.99

Was thinking about picking this game up a few weeks ago. It's on sale now, so I may just go get it. Anyone play this yet? Is it worth $1?

 

I should also note that I can't find any reviews of this game online and this is the only site that actually discusses the game.

 

Definitely- I prefer it to Smash Cops because the seemingly infinite missions of quite a bit of variety make it feel like you could just dip in and out of this for a long time to come. Good lookin' out, TA!

It's pretty good for $1.

So I picked it up anyway - it's only $1, right? So far it's pretty good. Someone mentioned Smash Cops and I think this game is better than Smash Cops as a whole and it has the potential to be so much better where Smash Cops is what it is since the game is a few years old.

Some "classic" cars is pretty neat. I use the Starsky & Hutch-looking car quite a bit. There seem to be a few more that I haven't unlocked yet.

Some of the missions are better than others - seems like they jammed as many types as they could into the game. The escort missions are pretty lame and those missions where you need to stay in the circle to pull people over is also kinda weak, but the rest of the missions have been good so far.

Seems a bit grindy for a paid game. I have played for a few hours and I'm not even close to unlocking the next map. Almost like the game was meant to be Free, but they changed their minds at the last minute. At least they don't bonk you over the head with micro-transactions.

The idea of lowering the crime rate and catching criminals from the most wanted list is interesting, though it could be better. Seems like these criminals appear randomly and there is no real reason that these missions appear on your map.

What's funny to me is that this game doesn't really remind me of the COPS tv show. It's a good police game, but it could be branded with just about anything. I'd expect maps with trailer parks and crack houses. Maybe those maps are coming later? There is also no interaction with people you pull over which I think would be more true to the show. I wouldn't expect a full-blown RPG, but maybe a decision to ticket or arrest a suspect? You pull the driver over, then you see they are bombed or they have a crack pipe on the passenger seat.

All these issues aside, the game is pretty fun and I don't mind the grind. It's good for a few minutes here and a few minutes there. Certainly worth the $1 I paid.

What I don't understand is why there is no press around this game? Can't find a review anywhere. Maybe it is all the negative press around police these days? Just seems odd that a game with a pretty well-known brand doesn't get any love from the press.
