Wow, much respect to you man. It takes a special kind of dedication to work this hard and see such a project to completion. As for the control scheme, have you played Mage Gauntlet? That game has excellent controls, though I'm not sure how well they would translate to a 3D game like yours. But it definitely wouldn't hurt to check it out (it's really fun.)
That's the huge issue that has me rage quiting lol. Every time I move on my iphone my finger slips off since the virtual pad is so small. Could you implement maybe a smooth joystick? Those work the best and would be great for the game. I keep running into walls, it's hard to turn. I feel as if it's not smooth , so I just either go left, right, straight, or backwards one step at a time. I'll lift my finger and do either one because everytime I start using it fluently do go different directions I just slip off the d pad.
I'm going to get going on something like mage gauntlet version tomorrow. Hopefully it will be in the store by the end of next week. Thanks. The thing I liked about mine is basically that you just squish your thumb on it and lean in the direction you want. I like it because it's lazier, but I could see how if you're used to control schemes like this it could be frustrating.
You guys say you want to take your time but you can't because of the constant threat of deletion. I will admit to being intrigued by the game and a constant feeling of WTF is going on. In a similar vein has anyone tried Kairo it's pretty amazing too!
For a floating vstick option, you can check out Fireball SE. I believe that makes the best example for that control option, together with the additional options that come with it.
I agree: a floating vstick option, increase the touch zone of the D-pad AND the buttons (I miss some hits on the action buttons of minigames too), and things like that. Haven't tried Kairo, but I think Continue has more action (mini games, countdown timers, etc.) than Kairo. Am I right?
That is one spectacular trailer. Wow. What is the general consensus on the controls, gentlemen? They don't sound bad enough to keep me from seeing how deep this rabbit hole goes.
Yeah i agree, they're not perfect but it doesnt stop me from playing it. The more people who buy this the better chance we have of more levels/updates/a sequel etc. This is a game where you shouldnt be on the fence, we moan about freemium, we moan about the lack of quality indie titles. This is a quality indie title, time to back up your words and buy it
I agree that the trailer looks awesome. The soundtrack ought to be available on iTunes - it adds incredible atmosphere to the game. Just thought I'd add something from the perspective of someone who hasn't 'clicked' with the game. The (what seems to me) semi mystical premise of the game is great but hides a fairly simple gameplay mechanic which seems to consist of a collection of exploration and mini games that are played with an ultimate aim of collecting enough of one thing to open up new areas and collecting another thing to create places to hide when timers runs out. This isn't bad in itself but the controls as they are are not great and this quickly led to some frustration in timed portions and exasperation in portions requiring a certain amount of 'twitch'. I got a growing sense of, "meh, I'll delete and install something else." I can see A LOT of potential for this and I would still recommend it to folks looking for something a little different to the standard AppStore fayre. Personally though, at this point, it's mostly the music that keeps me coming back.
No no one at all just anyone who comes here to the thread and wonders whether to buy it or not. I mean i'm selfish in a way as i'm enjoying this game a lot, so the more people who buy it we'll get more and more updates/new sequel etc if it does well so i hope it does
IMO, the confusion is the greatest part of this game... you start with so many questions in your mind about what should I do, what must i do, where i am.. as long as you play the game, you will figure what's going on, what should you do. Yes, this kind of way might be not good for some people but for me it was so fun and challenging to reveal the riddle . I'm enjoying this game so much.. when the dev update the control, i believe this game will give more fascinating experience for the players.
I was going to say i think thats part of the game, its a lot of exploration rather than 'go to point b and get this item...' But i must admit this thread will be useful for any tips later as i'm sure i'll get stuck soon !
