Smash Bros. isn't necessarily the best representation considering it's a fighting game that's main strength is that it borrow elements from a lot of different and great games. It'd be best to play said games that a by-product of them. SMG, however, is fantastic. Played every single level on the original, which is a lot coming from me (no freakin' way was I replaying it as Luigi, though). Every gamer should play at least one Mario game. On that I whole-heartedly agree.
I guess the reason I mentioned Smash Bros is because it's the best example I can think of where someone's finally managed to make a fighting game appeal to people who can't play fighting games. I'm terrible at SF, MK, MvC and the like, but I've put more hours than I care to imagine into the three Smash Bros games.
Ok. Just don't let it get overboard. I agree people need to play the the best Wii games before they knock it.
I don't have a Wii, but have played through a lot of SMG at a friends... amazing game in my opinion! Played Twilight Princess too! That was great! One thing is true, Nintendo knows how to make great games
There have been many, many debates over whether SMB is a fighting game or not, so I won't even go into it now. Anyway, nowadays I usually fire up the Wii for Tatsunoko vs Capcom, Monster Hunter and more recently Sin and Punishment 2. Strangely enough all third party titles.
Just want to add something: Update times. I have read that PS3s take FOREVER to update. My Xbox downloads and installs essentially all updates in seconds. What are you guys' experience with this?
My PS3 takes a hell-of a long time to download the updates. I don't have an XBox 360 though so I can't compare the 2.. I never found the xBox any interesting, and I hate the chunky controllers. Though I might change my mind with the next xBox 360 that's just been released. Though I'm annoyed the fact the disc input method still has the tray come out, instead of pushing it in the slot like the PS3 and Wii -.-
Well, the faster downloads/downloads while console is off is nice... Being able to play inFAMOUS is nice, but I can't install it yet; it requires 6GB of space, but you need to have 12GB free?! WTH?! All the free stuff is definitely good, I've had some fun with Wipeout, etc. Premium Avatars and Themes...woo. A + in front of your name when people view your profile. Free Qore is nice, which means a free copy of High Velocity Bowling, and more per month. IDK about betas yet, since there aren't any out, but I've heard the SOCOM beta will get out, like, 2 months early.
I honestly can't justify the price of P+ at all. I dunno if it's worldwide or varies by region, but at the moment if you sign up here you get LittleBigPlanet for free, which is a great reason to do it... if you own the game already, it's a terrible reason. Avatars and themes are most certainly not worth all of that money, and the sale prices they put on PSN games are actually quite a clever bit of marketing from Sony. You pay THEM money for the chance to BUY all of the crap that hasn't sold well enough and they've lowered the price of. Does this not seem odd to anyone else? You're buying your way into a contract that says you'll spend lots of money on their store over the next 12 months. By far the best reason to sign up for Live is to play multiplayer, for most people that's a given. Take that away and you're left with practically nothing. Oh, and my PS3 takes ages to update, 360 is quicker but no one's really counting... mandatory updates are only a couple of times a year.
Well, here in the US, if you buy 12 months, you get a 1-hour copy of inFAMOUS and 3 months added to your subscription
That's even worse then. Here you get LBP... to keep. Which costs the same brand new as P+ does so you're basically just buying LBP and getting a year of P+ for nothing.
It's alright. I'm not going to bother with it for the moment. I really like Qore, but every episode ends up on YouTube anyway. I've already got Infamous/LBP and I usually get dynamic themes and avatars whenever one takes my fancy. Glad you are enjoying though mate.
