Bioshock I really wouldn't mind starting up again. Even replaying from the beginning (though I'd have to wait a little longer to make it worth doing so). Don't get me wrong, I love the way Arkham Asylum felt. The melee system, gadgets, graphics, and controls were all great. The gameplay was just really repetitive. Go here, take this bad guy out, go over there, scale this wall, take that bad guy out. The stealth missions were the best, the bosses could've used work (most notably, Ivy's). I'll take video games a tad more seriously when the next gen console comes out and I can play the games as they come out. At the rate the all the new ones are being released on the 360, I just don't have enough time to play the classics.
Don't forget Demon's Souls. That game is absolutely fantastic. I was actually informed about it quite a while before it hit the public eye, I was on MSN at 4am and someone linked me to an import review, within half an hour I'd ordered my own copy from Hong Kong via eBay. I just knew straight away I needed it, and I wasn't wrong at all. In fact I love it so much I'm tempted to buy it again now it's been released over here, even though I already own the import. I talked about it with my friend for ages, and we were convinced it was going to be one of those hidden gems that never really catches on due to the punishing level of difficulty and deceptively "simple" RPG gameplay. We figured we could act all elite because we were some of the few who know of it's secret awesomeness... then somehow it just took off in the USA and became a hit everywhere. Dunno if I'm happy or sad about that.
I hear you pal. You make some good points. It's the same here, I've got more games than I care to count on each console and my phone. I've only completed a small percentage of them, games like Mario Galaxy 2 I'll sit through in a weekend and won't resurface till I've seen 100% of the game. I really do recommend you make some time and play BS1 and perhaps BS2, I'm sure after seeing the ending to the first, you'll want to continue on.
Are there any FPS or WRPGs on that list? Those are the genres I like best, so I usually base a purchase of a system off of that. The kind of games that I absolutely can't play are beat 'em ups and racing games. They just make me bored.
It doesn't "need" exclusives per se, but if you pick up any console, it's nice to know you'll your share of the LBP/Halo/Mario games to play. On the PC you get, well, whatever's left over.
I think the PC has a very broad library of games, not exactly the 'leftovers' as you call it. It has its own share of exclusives such as strategy games and the like. Personally, as an RPG fan first and foremost, I've found that RPGs not only go to PC, but most of the time are made for PC and play better than their console counterparts. This not applicable to JRPGs, PC gaming isn't popular at all in Japan, it seems.
I see it from more of a platformer/FPS point of view, so yeah, your point's entirely valid. For RPGs, turn-based games, or RTS (that play awful on consoles) the PCs a much more viable option. Exclusivity doesn't matter. But for games like Halo or Mario, not your best bet. If it weren't for exclusives, your Wii wouldn't be worth one shit.
Highlighted text is precisely why I own all three consoles. I give a shit about the exclusives and want to experience the best games from the best developers of our time, regardless of platform.
Okay. We are getting into flaming again. Please don't. We can all agree if you want the best games, you definitely need a PS3Wii360PC combo.
It's not flaming-it's arguing. And argument is productive. Nah, you don't really NEED any Wii games. They lose their appeal quickly. I mean Super Smash Bros Brawl was a tons of fun-but it loses its appeal after a couple hours. Also, no one develops for the Wii other than Nintendo, which severely reduces its potential. This thread made me realize what great exclusives the PS3 has. I was mistaken in thinking the 360 is so much better-though I do prefer the online, the PS3 matches/outdoes it in every other category. I think, to be unbiased, the systems are very evenly matched. They each have their advantages, but in the end, if you have one, there's no reason to regret
It was never flaming. Flaming causes severe burns emotionally. Are any of us severely burned? I think not! But we had one pretty childish comment.
I'd say everyone needs to have played Mario Galaxy or Smash Bros to really be taken seriously. Even if they didn't like the games, they're such classic examples of what Nintendo can do they're like... gaming 101. You just need the experience under your belt.
