The quote was referring to hard drugs, which do have extremely negative physical effects, but then all the necessary scare tactics and such are already in place; I don't think there's very much danger that everyone would be rushing out to try heroin or coke if they became legal tomorrow (besides, I'm talking about controlled decriminalisation, everyone wouldn't be able to just go out and buy it)

Anyway, on to your point about weed, whats so terrible about making it socially acceptable in the same manner as alcohol? The peer pressure and behind the bike shed shenanigans already happen today when it's illegal. Access will still only be as easy as acquiring alcohol. It should even be harder for kids to get their hands on if controlled, at the moment kids could potentially buy from a dealer (albiet, a very moraless one), which puts them at more risk than smoking it IMO. But that is a slightly unlikely scenario, I admit.

  2. That depends. If it gets decriminalized, it would be taxed out the wazoo -- and why wouldn't it? It would be a great new revenue stream for state governments. I'd wager it would be taxed at the same level or even higher than alcohol, at least to start. I don't know what weed typically goes for though, so I could be wrong, too.

Pretty much what he said, it wouldn't be dirt cheap due to the amount of tax they'd force on it, but it would be cheaper.
We'd most likely see a declining price as more farms are set up, and the process of growing becomes more industrialised.

you might also see a decline in the quality of the crop based on whether or not you are buying government grown or not, or growing your own.

Good to have someone here who understands where I'm coming from with the crime issue Shaman. :)

The government likes to tax anything that they view would be harmful both physically or morally. Look at the supposed tax they want to put on soda. Look at the tax put on cigarettes (NY tax laws). I'm not sure if tax laws/differential will go state by state or it will fall under federal tax laws.

  6. That goes without saying though -- the same could be said for anything you can make or grow at home. That's where good ol' market forces will take over, as farms who grow weak bud won't make as much as farms who grow good stuff, and ultimately, like anywhere and anything, the best products for the price will be the big winners, the top shelf stuff will go to the discerning customers, and the ones who grow the weak stuff will have to sell cheaper to cater to the budget-conscious stoner. :)

9 years and 4 days (to be anally precise.) And it's not marriage per se. It offers same-sex couples many of the important rights granted to heterosexual couples but it is not yet equal enough.

AZ Tax laws on ciggs are aweful here in AZ as well. I mean its up to about $7.15 for a pack of Marlboro Blend 54's. It's bad... real bad...

Decriminalizing weed wouldn't stop people from growing their own though. They'd probably whip up some BS laws against it, in which case we'd be back to square one. People want cheap weed with no tax, so instead of buying some packaged government funded crap they walk a few blocks and knock on some stoner's basement door.

  10. Come on down to Canada. Premium brands are $10.25 a pack, budget brands $8.50. That's Canadian but that's still more even for the budget brands than you pay for Marlboro. (Although these are for 25 packs. Subtract a buck for 20 packs.)

I'm going to be switching to eCigs soon. Way cheaper (starter kit is less than a carton of smokes, bottles of liquid are $20 for the equivalent of a carton), comparatively healthier.

They're for people who want to smoke online, so you look twice as cool on forums. Thanks to peer pressure and your own weak self image.

It'd be interesting to see what happened, as I can imagine a few plants for personal usage would be allowed (like Holland), but once you exceed say 4 plants or something, you're labelled with intent to sell. Which would be interesting if basement operations could even compete with whatever's legal, in terms of price and quality, it's not like anyones going to go out of their way to grow more than they should only to sell if for less than market price. That's if they can even grow to the same standard, or better, than what's on offer, which is pretty unlikely for most people.

  14. Essentially, they're cigarette-shaped batteries that heat up a liquid to vapourize it into "smoke". The liquid is just water, propylene glycol (a clear, colourless, odorless, slightly sweet and edible liquid), food-grade colouring (to make it look kind of brown like tobacco), flavouring (to make it taste like popular smoke brands or exotic flavours like vanilla, chocolate, mint, strawberry, or whatever floats your boat), and nicotine. You can get them without nicotine too.

Smoking them feels like smoking a real cigarette, as the vapors give you that same throat hit tobacco smoke does, they taste pretty much like real cigarettes (you can get 'em in imitation brand flavours like Marlboro, Kool, Camel, etc.), and they give you the nicotine hit without all the other crap they put in tobacco. You can get them in various strengths too, from 0 to 24mg, and various styles of eCig, from realistic to blingy to stylish to "why are you puffing on a garage door opener?".

Just Google "electronic cigarettes" or "vaping" (yes, that's seems to be the popular term for smoking eCigs). Or you can watch this cute chick review a particular model of eCig.

My eCig is bigger than your eCig.

its be just like brewing beer. i brew my own beer. even tho all my friends enjoy my home made beer.. none of them want to go to the effort to make it.

so they just go buy it.. would be the same with grass. humans are lazy by nature.
