I'm open to suggestions, as I'm trying to find a new computer to replace my current one. I've been looking at the 15-inch Macbook Pro Core i5, but it's a bit expensive and it'll take some time to save up. I'm open to any suggestions though, including desktops and PCs. As long as they're priced reasonably, of course
I got a Dell Studio XPS for a bit over a third of what an equivalently spec'd Macbook Pro would cost. There're very few Mac computers to look at, nothing to narrow down, but a gazillion that run windows, hard to recommend specific ones
Toshiba and Asus are good brands to look into. You just have to be careful with the lower end ones. Some of them are made with cheap plastic that'll crack within the year. The only Windows laptop I ever truly loved (seriously, it was great, it didn't even die on its on, I killed it... ) was an Asus.
What would you be using the computer for? Macs are good all around computers that last a long time, but not so great a gaming.
Yeah I have an Asus. It's built like a tank and the specs are pretty good for the price. I'd definitely recommend a higher-end Asus.
I love my MBP 13". I thought I wanted to 15" but after using this it's the perfect size. I came from a 17-20?" HP, the screen was huge Wish it had a blu ray drive but oh well I never get any errors like I did with windows, no more defragging...
I've owned a few MBP over the last two years (4 of them... 13" - 17") and it all depends on what your needs are. The new 13" MBP 2.4 + Seagate Momentus XT is great for just about everything... its no PC killer when it comes to games but a great machine for the price.
Other computers last a long time too, as long as you don't want to play games on it for about 2,5 years. Go for a Dell/Lenovo/Asus, especially Lenovo thinkpads are very solid machines, will last a long time without breaking.
http://www.slashgear.com/sony-vaio-lv-series-high-definition-pctv-0315227/ This is what I've got. Great to hook up your PS3 to, watch Blu-Rays on the PC, play great games. Loads of memory and big hard-drive. Wireless mouse and keyboard are both stylish and useful. Really recommended; only one small problem, very annoying though - Sony's Media Centre deletes iTunes on occasions, so definitely keep a back-up (unless you just delete the media centre). Mine is future-proofed for 10 years
Small problem? That sounds annoying as hell. I'm surprised that something toting the Vaio name could come out with something this good, though. Design could be updated from 1997, however.
so lets say I want to browse the internet, use some of the Adobe Creative Suite, maybe use Blender, and then iTunes, would a Mac be a better deal? And is like a MBP the best mac?
If you spend the same ammount of money you do spend on a Mac on a high-end normal PC you could easily get an i7 extreme edition and about 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz RAM. Pwns every Mac. E: WTF? That benchmarks can't be real. How could an i7 920XM which is the fastest mobile CPU available be slower than the M620? That's impossible, sorry. The only difference, apart from that the i7 920XM and 4GB 1066Mhz RAM are much faster than that MBP, is the OS (whick couldn't make such a significant difference) and the fact that the MBP's HDD is MUCH slower than the Alienware m15x's. It just can't be faster, it must be fake, the MBP is not able to process or load things (Photoshop is all about doing that) faster. This is like saying: My Volkswagen Golf 1995 beats your Bugatti Veyron. Fake. E2: iTunes is annoying too .
