I went to desktop and this happened:

This giant gray square is ALWAYS on top. It cannot be right clicked, and there are no clickable areas. I cannot restart my computer currently and I want to know if this is permanent. Also, has this happened to anyone else?

The only reason it was covered in the picture is because of Rocket Dock.

  2. When you say you cannot restart your computer, do you mean it won't, or for some reason you don't want to? It's kind of hard to determine if it's a problem if you haven't rebooted to see if it goes away. It's clearly a software problem, but there's no way to tell what it might be if I don't know whether it's persistent.

Ah, such is the folly of the PC.

    Get a Mac.

I can, but I have something important running at the moment. I have just never seen this before. I have had some pretty messed up infected computers, but this one is clean... It just popped up after I clicked the desktop button.

  6. Well, I'm going to hazard a guess and say it's probably not permanent, but there's no way to tell for sure 'til whatever is running has completed and you're able to reboot and see if it recurs. I've seen something like that before, and it was a virus. One where the designer of said virus tries to extort money from you to remove it. My dad had it, and fortunately it was a very poorly designed virus because I was able to find it and remove it manually, as it didn't even try to hide from anyone that knows a little something about PCs.

Not that I'm saying that's what it is, but I'd have a better idea if it came back after a reboot.

My Mac's gone wrong twice now. I still love it, but after years of listening to people like you telling people their problems would be over after buying a Mac, I'm thinking I should have just put a bullet in your head.

Oh and TC, I've had that a few times, they usually occur for me after a window has crashed, but always disappear after a restart.

It went away after restarting, it just worried me a little. I have owned PCs for around 7 years or so and that hasn't happened to me before. It just popped up, no programs stalled or closed or anything.
