Arrrgh what have they done ! Used to love buying comics from the app, now they've totally revamped it, you cant buy from it, can only buy from their website. Obviously dont want Apple getting a cut of their IAP's. But so frustrating, the apps got tons of 1 star reviews already. Just frustrating what they've done, ridiculous decision
It is frustrating, but I would not call the decision to do it ridiculous. 30% is a huge chunk of revenues to give up. It is a shame Apple does not have a different pricing model for Apps that act as storefronts.
You can still use the DC, Image and Marvel apps to buy in the app store (last time I checked) and they're powered by Comixology.
I would rather they put up prices 30% ! I just find it so much easier/quicker using my itunes credit rather than using my credit card to go to a website and then buy something. With Dark Horse you can still buy comics from the app. When i'm away from home its so quick/easy to buy a comic from the app. But good point about the other standalone apps, i'll check out the walking dead one (the main one i buy)
If They were allowed to they could up all of their in-app prices by 50%, but Apple insist that they prices in app must be as good as the prices outside the app if there same content is available by both routes.
They could have given users a heads up that this change was happening. Also, I understand the 30% cut for Apple but they will realize that having the in-app purchase option was what drove up the popularity of the app in the first place. anyways, i've switched out to the Marvel, DC and Dark Horse apps too as they still do allow in-app purchases.
I enjoyed the pre-Amazon buyout version. The previous iteration, combining all participating publishers into a unified end-user experience, was seamless. Logging onto the web page is extremely klunky by comparison. As a result, I've downloaded the Image, DC and Dark Horse apps for the same, albeit disparate company, end-user experience. I know it's still a bit early, but the "savings" that Amazon stated would be passed onto the readers has yet to emerge. If I were them, I'd be trumpeting great deals much more aggressively with a greater breadth of choices. I may be mistaken, but I believe the Marvel app functioned differently than the company-owned ones noted above. It appeared to accept only the login info from the former Comixology app rather than the iTunes login.
Currently, the Marvel app does not sync with purchases made via the Comixology app. The DC and Image apps do sync.
