Sadly I won’t even try at this point. I downloaded and just too much in app for me. Don’t want to invest time. Keep us posted if you keep at it how much the in apps are needed. It does look fun. On certain games it seems nowadays like an accepted model, on something like THIS…idk why Wish they could give premium users the ability to bypass the crap. If it’s a good game I’d gladly play $10 on it, but the game has to merit that purchase… elcrazy likes this. elcrazy Well-Known Member Sep 19, 2017 707 562 93 #6 elcrazy, Aug 19, 2021 Couldn't agree more. I just don’t want to invest time into something with that amount of in apps and this silly model. flax41 New Member Dec 21, 2011 2 1 3 #7 flax41, Aug 19, 2021 The number of opt-in ads and "achievements" in so many different menus is overwhelming. I played for a few hours and spent the majority of my time dealing with ads and navigating menus to complete "achievements." Already deleted. It looks like it COULD be a decent game, but the main game is 40% or less of what you'll be doing. It lacks the variety and challenge you find in games like Pirates Outlaws or Slay the Spire. Even if they toned down the distractions, it doesn't stack up to what else is out there. I love this genre though, so I'll probably revisit it in a few months and see if they've made changes or updates. I just love the graphics and art style. I like the comic book theme and love this type of game. But I was always hesitant as I looked at the in apps while it was on pre order. Oh well at least there have been many good premium games as of late. And I doubt this would have been as good as Slay the Spire or Night of the Full Moon anyways lol. I’m talking about the culling of games and apps. Sure, it would be unrealistic to expect a PS3 game to work on a PS5, or a SNES game on a Switch (you know what I mean), but even if it is a hassle, you can still pull out your Mega Drive (sorry Genesis folks, MD for life!). It’s equally unrealistic to expect an iOS game to get over a decade of support, but at least let folks keep what they paid for. Okay, the fine print says you don’t own digital purchases, but why can I still download games I’ve bought on GOG or Steam long after they’ve been pulled from their respective stores? Sure, they might be buggy or flat out won’t work, but at least you can still download them, back them up or whatever. 3 things and I’ll shut up. 1) I paid $60 for the trainwreck that was Guitar Hero: Live (or whatever it was called) on iOS, with its online requirement bullshit. Where the **** is it now? 2) *tries not to mention Square Enix’s pathetic post-sales app support* 3) If a developer doesn’t pay his/her/their yearly fee to sell his/her/their game, there’s a possibility I’ll never be able to download it again if it’s gone from my Purchased list? What kind of logic is that? Moreover, can someone explain what kind of logic is behind Purchased that determines what stays and what goes!? Yeah, I’m not paying truly premium prices for anything on iOS. Note: This isn’t exactly a reply to you, but more of a rant inspired by this topic. You know I love you, bud. aconfusedkender, anthony78, L.Lawliet and 1 other person like this. twohoots Active Member Aug 20, 2017 27 6 3 #15 twohoots, Aug 19, 2021 I’m quite enjoying this, too, though I’ll caveat that by adding I’m not averse to gacha games. There’s a real-time competitive mode which is quite fun, you all play the same level and see who gets to the end the quickest, if not the furthest. I’m sure this will be an area where those who are willing to pay will have a big advantage over those who don’t. If you're someone who’s very competitive but doesn’t like to spend, it’s probably going to be very frustrating, but I personally get a kick out seeing how far I can get in gacha games without spending anything. Boardumb Administrator Staff Member Patreon Silver Patreon Gold Apr 14, 2009 8,964 880 113 THE BOSS Sacramento, CA #16 Boardumb, Aug 20, 2021 Don't really disagree with any of this but also don't see quite what it has to do with my post. Just because Apple's digital storefront is dog shit when it comes to legacy support doesn't mean games should just be cheaper. It doesn't make them cheaper to make or anything. And actually I DO think it's like wanting a PS3 game to work on PS5. Each new iOS device is essentially a new platform with a new operating system. If I have an older device around with an older version of iOS then I can play a lot of those broken games. So are they really broken? I don't think that's fundamentally too different from expecting to need an NES to play a The Legend of Zelda cartridge. But anyway, all I was really saying is that it's funny people think $10 is an adequate amount of money to offer someone who probably spent years making something. Imagine a sculptor spending years chipping away to make a stature and someone comes by and says "Wow, cool statue! I might even pay $10 for it!" It's just insulting is all. L.Lawliet Well-Known Member Jun 28, 2011 6,405 420 83 #17 L.Lawliet, Aug 20, 2021 metalcasket is saying that people would rather pay less because these titles aren't being "owned" by you and can be removed at will, especially online only games. Devs not paying fees for their app store games is also an easy way to get removed. He made his comparison that on Steam / physical games he can still play them just without them being potentially taken from them. So why pay a large price when something can be removed at a moment's notice? That's like paying that sculptor for $60 for that sculpture then one day he just removes it from your house and you can't do anything about it. Some people are skeptical of paying a high price when they are "renting" a game. If I'm going to pay $60 I would probably just buy the physical disc with case, but that defeats the purpose of the AppStore so lower prices will entice people to buy for mobile. I've paid for hundreds of premium and online games, many which don't even show up in my purchases anymore. Many of the online games are just dead. If I bought games physically or Steam even, I don't have them disappearing from my house. Online games still won't work but the app store is being driven into "online-only" territory for past many years, even for single player games. Most of my newer games are single player games save for "friends lists" + gacha and they're all online-only. I pay a ton for them but one day they'll be gone for good and even having an old device won't save them. People feel more inclined to give something a try if it's cheaper (not a big loss) but when it's expensive they weigh the pros and cons / think that this online game is could shut down next month. Or a premium game could just disappear from the app store (Infinity Blade where?). aconfusedkender, elcrazy and anthony78 like this. And I also already understood what Metal was saying, but thanks for explaining it to me like I'm an idiot lol. I still don't see how either of your guys' comments relates to what I was saying. Any digital software can be removed from its store or break on future hardware/software. Any game that relies on an online infrastructure can be rendered unplayable at any point in time. It is not unique just to mobile, even though it is fifty billion times more likely to happen on mobile. That doesn't mean the game should therefore cost less. Is a game breaking or being removed or having its servers shut down acceptable at $10? But not $20 or $30? What price is that acceptable at? The answer is it should never be acceptable. BUT ANYWAY, none of this has to do with my original comment. The irony here is that people are worried about long-term support, yet the best chance of getting long term support is by generating ongoing revenue by using a monetization model like this game is using. Giving them $10 once isn't going to cut it. PBSNellie Well-Known Member Jul 7, 2013 1,381 168 63 Southern CA #19 PBSNellie, Aug 20, 2021 I don't know what this has to do with anything, but I still have some very old games on my device(s) (I also have a pre-11 Ipad that I use for games that were not updated) that are not well known, and for the most part under the radar, that are still playable and going strong. So there's no rhyme or reason to anything on mobile. elcrazy Well-Known Member Sep 19, 2017 707 562 93 #20 elcrazy, Aug 20, 2021 Yikes this has gotten way out of control. @Boardumb sometimes it seems like you take some of this so personally. Everyone is allowed their opinion. I get what everyone is saying. But I also think people sometimes “10$” is just the word they use. I don’t think it always means $10 I Know for me it wouldn’t mean that. I would be happy to pay whatever a game costs. Video games are by far the best value you can get when it comes to entertainment. If you take the average entertainment being a movie and it’s like $17-$25 for a movie ticket plus the food you get like $30-$40 per person for 2hrs of entertainment. Video games offer way more hrs of entertainment per dollar. That being said I hate games with tons of in apps. I just feel like I never know what I’ll own of it. How much currency I’ll need or how much grinding. I wish I could just pay a full premium price and own a game. And I don’t think games should be endlessly supported or updated. Back In the day you bought an nes game with huge glitches for $50-$80 and there was no such things as updates lol. I just don’t like freemium or these new style of pay to play markets. I don’t like adds and I hate this new subscription model in games. I’m old School. I like physical games for my switch where possible. As for this game it looks like it may be fun. But for me I don’t want to invest time in something littered with in apps. Especially not when I can play many good games of this type premium. I do wish their was a premium option. Even if was like buying a switch game, which here can be $79.99. If I’m going to spend 100hrs on it then it’s a no brainer even at $80. I thanked you in an earlier post.
