The one thing that is bugging me is that there doesn't seem to be a limit on the number cards you can bring to battle. This seems like a balancing problem. In other card games the the players start with the same number of cards. This prevents one player from simply camping in a defensive mode until the other player exhausts all their monsters. I've already won a few quest matches this way.
I agree with that, it seems really strange where there's a penalty for running out of cards but you can have as many as you want in your deck, there should be a limit.
The limit is 200. The price you pay for bringing bigger decks is a lack of predictability in your card draws.
Maybe so but there is no way a guy with a 30 card deck is going to win against one with a 60 card deck. Never mind a 200 card deck. I still think there needs to be a practical limit otherwise the guy with the bigger army is going to win.
I have a 30 card deck and I won a multiplayer game yesterday against big deck. Was in the 60's I believe.
You obviously haven't played alot of 1 on 1 PVP - Personally I run 30 or 35 cards max in 1 vs 1. The giant benefit of a 30 card deck is you draw the cards you need a lot more often, especially on the first turn. I am some 300 PVP victories and yet to run out of cards with a 30 card deck... I either win or lose but never yet have I ran out of cards (NOT EVEN CLOSE). In a 3, 4 and 6 player I can see running more cards as those can potentially end up being longer games but in a 1 on 1 game, i usually laugh if i see a player with 60+ cards. For example, i personally have unlocked 308/308 of the cards, so I have at least 1 of each card and in many cases 4, but I would never consider just throwing all the good cards into one deck --- It would be hard to rely on any type of synergy or draw the cards you need.
I love this game. But why is there such a power drain? It feels like my iPhone 5 battery is sucked dry faster than any other app? It's also warmer than usual. Anybody else has this?
I notice that on my iPad4, normally I can use my iPad all day and night for various things but if I'm playing combat monsters it seems to drain much faster than usual.
strange, i dont notice an unusual power drain at all. maybe you arent used to hardware demanding, always online games? power usage with combat monsters vs candy crush will be a fair bit different. also try googling for tips on how to save battery on ios. things like keeping your brightness high and features you dont frequently use on could be an issue. as for large decks being a solid tactic to win, i cant say i have ever loss versus someone with a large deck. i try to keep mine as close to 30 as possible to improve the quality of my draw, and i dont even have any legendarys.
i just played a quick battle game, did anyone else notice that they raised the prize? not sure if they just raised it or if it increases after you have more wins racked up.
Agree that 30-40 is fairly ideal for 2 player. I dont always do it, and once you have a ton of good cards, its not a terrible sin to have a bigger deck, but nor is it helpful. There are some isolated builds where you will probably want more than 30 cards, like an Elemental Deck build. But those arent any better or worse imho. Bigger decks are good for large multiplayer games. Sometimes those get a little crazy. My son had a 4 player game on a map with some serious bottlenecks, and he and the other player left each had like 12-15 creatures out at one point. Granted he is 8. More commonly, in a large game with experienced players *someone* is going play Carnage, which kills all creatures, maybe more than once. And one or more players will have regening heroes and/or lots of healing if folks are playing cautiously/slowly. So games can go longer. As far as the battery...yeah, I had to turn my brightness down and turn off the high end graphics option. That helps.
To this day, I've yet to play a single TCG/CCG where the predictability of minimum deck size is not superior to a larger variety of cards. There is no reason why you would not want to draw your best or most suitable cards at any givent moment, and have a higher chance of filling your hand with opportunities for combos. This holds true for classics such as Magic, The Eternal Struggle and Netrunner, as well as digital newcomers like Scrolls, Urban Rivals and Assassin's Creed: Recollection. I doubt Combat Monsters is different. It is a basic tenet of CCG design, and while it would be very interesting to see it broken, it exists for several good reasons.
oh that must be it! right from the get go i went to options and found the "max gfx" "hear speech" and "faster game" buttons. i turned off the first two and turned on the third. i think that must be making a difference battery wise for me and my 4s n ipad 3rd gen.
K makes sense you turn down graphics and voice to save battery but why would i have to or want to. I wanna play the game the way it was designed and it shouldn't drain my battery. Also im familiar with all online games and Dead Trigger 2 drains my battery slower then this game and its much more graphically intense game. So im kind of thinking its the way the game is designed and it needs to be addressed in a patch maybe. just my two cents lol Cheers
