Is it not just down to making a different deck? I've got 6 different decks setup and all I've bought is the tripler, and I've just finished the medium campaign. Sure it's hard but it was do-able.
Hard is supposed to be... Hard... Especially for new players. If u already beat medium u should just go do some PvP it is faster and more Rubicons
If you don't mind me asking, what base cards did you focus on? I've made a few different decks with different setups and focuses. I haven't had any problems with any of the battles till now. I know it is probably my playing ability, but I prefer games that allow me to grind to make up for any lack of skill on my part. I am not playing Hard. I am only halfway through medium. Played a few PvP and got crushed by people that seemed to have nothing but legendary cards in their deck. I played till the end even though I knew I had no chance. Never enjoyed any type of PvP game. I always play the AI.
Actionrpg, I have a tips thread for beating the AI over at Rubicon's forums for the game. I'd link it, but I'm on my phone. Check it out, it should help.
I started with the warrior deck, my hero is the 45hp hero so I can gear him up and he can take a beating. I pick mostly 4 mana minotaurs, orcs, and whatever else I have that is decent. I hated having a handful of 5 mana creatures and no chance to cast them. I throw the few average mages and archers I have in, so I had some range or to hold down power points. I've got some decent warrior weapons and shields too. I built an equipment heavy Minotaur deck and it was rubbish. So I went back and followed ArtNJs advice for deck composition www.rubicondev.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=1759 I generally win in multiplayer when I meet another new player, and I have had occasional wins against legendary heavy decks too. I even managed to beat ArtNJs elemental deck to within an inch of its life before he finally took me out.
i had no troubles at all beating medium campaign with only my tripler. did you maybe spend a lot of coins on different heros? thats the only way i could see being screwed out of the game. only solution besides buying coins would be to repeatedly run ads to pick up more card packs. avoid the 1200 and 4000 packs like the plague; 400 basic packs are the way to go until you are specifically rare and legendary hunting for competition and fine tuning purposes. one strategy thats worked very well for me vs AI is to stick with just a couple lizards/werewolves/minotaurs and equip em up. having a couple invincible monsters by your side makes it much easier. also taking advantage of the power tiles and manipulating where the enemy can go with liberal use of traps helps as well.
Rubicon sometimes does late night server maintenance so that could be it. It's never down more than an hour or two- seen this just once before and they announced a seever maintenance on November 7 related with update 1.1 ehich is with apple right now for approval. Check this link for details of patch http://www.rubicondev.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=1901
Thanks for the link. That helped a lot. Read ArtNJs tips and tweaked the composition of my main deck and won both battles that were giving me trouble. I had too many weapons and equipment in my deck, as well as having both for all three classes, and had bad "deck clog" as ArtNJ described. Streamlined the deck and won one in a rout, and the other by a nose. Thanks!
I tried this one out. First impressions are that the gameplay is pretty solid. I only hesitate to spend any money on it for a couple minor reasons. 1) As petty as it sounds the low resolution graphics mar the experience a bit for me. On my iPad 4 they are a bit disappointing. 2) As much as I enjoy the card collecting type of gameplay I've always been turned off by the online experience as I tend to get my butt handed to me frequently. The single player quests look pretty long so that may be enough to entice me buy the tripler.
My first complaint was graphics too but then i realized my phone does not get even a little hot playing for hours back to back and the game does not drain my battery nearly as much as any of my other games on IOS. Just saying, it really is a good trade off.
Not that these graphics are going to win any beauty and/or design contests, but I play this a fair bit on my computer with a 21" monitor and find them fine for what they are even blown up to that size. Sure the game would be even better if these were beautifully rendered 3D models that made our jaws drop, but for a strategy game, and with the character that the many animations add, they work. As for your second comment, I've been playing this on and off since it came out and haven't touched multiplayer, and just bought the tripler. Well worth the cost just for the single player in my opinion.
I agree with all the graphics comments, fancy graphics are not needed for strategy games and I'd much rather have a smaller file size than fancy graphics anyday. I paid for the tripler after playing about 5 of the tutorials and so far all I've done is finish medium and play a couple of online matches, but I'd rather play offline so it's quick match I play instead of online. It's worth getting the tripler just for going though the single player alone.
You guys make good points about the graphics. It's not a deal breaker for me as I do enjoy some retro graphics games. In this game it just strikes me as if the textures and character models are unnecessarily low quality. I think it would look a bit nicer if the textures and resolution had the retina displays in mind. That said, I don't mind giving the developer a few bucks when it's a game I like or want to see improvements too. I may go for tripler after all.
Game Impressions I think I've reached the conclusion that Combat Monster is not for me (inability to purchase the Tripler notwithstanding. Nope, not jailbroken by the way, Boardumb). Pocket Tactics sums up my sentiments with “a well-built, often clever, satisfying CCG with an underdeveloped tactical component” (though I think there is a lot that could still be done to develop the CCG component as well, and bring it up to par with some of the more sophisticated digital CCGs, like Scrolls and Recollection). Collecting cards and putting them together in (unusually effective) thematic decks if fun, but whenever I enter the field of battle I find myself wishing I was playing Ravenmark, FFT or Summoner Wars. So for those of you looking for a CCG, this is a fine choice. A TBS, perhaps not so much. A competitive environment unaffected by IAP, not recommended. But for a non-restrictive single player and casual multiplayer freemium title with very generous progression mechanics and lack of paywalls, then there are few better examples.
I don't think there is anything quite like Combat Monsters on IOS and most definitely nothing similar enough that is better. If u want to share some feedback and suggestion on making the game better post them on the Rubicon feedback forums http://www.rubicondev.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=33&sid=672798e75b243933b884f21760775020 Devs actually read them and reply to everything
