My apologies in advance for this somewhat cheesy post. Here are some of the things I try to keep in mind when I post on these forums. - Be constructive in your criticism. - Do not argue price. As a developer, they can charge what they want. As a consumer, you choose to buy or not. There are plenty of other fish in the ocean. - Do not complain if the app you recently bought goes on sale. It works both ways. - If you take a promo code, post the code you took. If you like the game you got for free, post impressions in the forums and a review on the app store. Reward the developer for their generosity. - Don't grab a promo code if you do not think you will like or play the game. Same thing for participating in betas. These are limited resources and the developers need to maximize feedback from them. - If a developer makes a game free and you download it and like it, reward the developer by posting a review on the app store. That is likely part of what they are trying to accomplish. - Be especially supportive of the games where the developer is active in the discussion. Particularly if the developer responds to criticism. - Do not condemn all freemium games. - Do not condemn all IAP. - Avoid personal attacks. - Try to keep your posts on subject. No one wants to wade through irrelevant posts. - Always remember that developers are trying to make a living doing what they love and try to be supportive. We will all benefit.
Spot on, well done. Although "do not argue price" doesn't mean there can't be a civil price discussion. Granted, most of the times it's mentioned is down to pure greed, but on occasion it might be beneficial to the developer to know he's setting his price that much higher than the competition and out of the range of his target audience. That said, even if it starts out civil, it usually turns to crap pretty fast, so even then it might not be worth the bother...
I suspect that pretty much all developers spend quite a bit of time considering their pricing. They have a lot more at stake then I do as a consumer. They do not need me to tell them what is right or wrong. The bottom line for them is to maximize revenue.
This always bares reposting at moments like this. Love it! http://forums.toucharcade.com/showpost.php?p=1240069&postcount=58
