How does NOVA have bad graphics? I enjoyed COD for the co-op, but it doesn't have the same appeal as NOVA, which has more maps, multiplayer game modes, Gameloft live, and a singleplayer campaign. In terms of multiplayer, you can't really say that one is better than the other. They both offer great multiplayer, but different game modes. But as an overall game, NOVA wins by far.
Why CoD wins from my viewpoint... I can respect your opinion but think about what you said for a second... Ok second over. This is how I see it. Activision has made a game that is just about a mirror image to its console version that has solid graphics, very fluid controls, better weapons that are more realistic all-around, better sounds even though there are way less, simple yet addictive gameplay, a great multiplayer that hasnt been hacked iirc (unlike NOVA), a ton of posts/reviews, and pretty much the majority is 4+ stars out of 5 from its initially release on one single map. Normally any CoD game would cost double if not more on any other device/console. Even at $5 for all the other maps it's still cheaper than buying one CoD game at full price. Worth the price? I think so. Activision has hordes more integrity in this game alone that NOVA cant even come close too. Should you compare pretty much any other game between these two companies; Activision will be on top with flying colors. We can base that comparison off originality alone. In my opinon the only thing NOVA has going better for them is its vibrant colors. Being CoD has a WWII setting...The colors are perfect for what they are. I personally enjoy them both. Gameloft for the most part (on this device) spits out games based off other companies "successful games" and presents you with a watered down lifeless version but tries to make up for it with great graphics. They give it to you at a cheap price because it tends to be exactly what it is worth. If your lucky you may get one update. 8 out of 10 times that update is to fix a glitch then they "Set it and forget it" You get what you pay for. With Gameloft on the iTouch, I can only trust by verify... I cant hate on Gameloft for making these games because the consumer buys it and I would love to be laughing my way to the bank too. This is how I view it and I can only hope that you see where I'm coming from. After playing through NOVA; it was very hard to stomach the game after the first level because i felt no life...it really lacked conviction like the game was "Copy & Paste." Solid graphics yes but, an empty shell of a game as usual. I had high hopes for it too. I would like to know your reasoning?
Personally, I think the best FPS on the platform is The Infinity Project, but that's an argument for another time... I own and have enjoyed both CoD and Nova, and the main thing I can say about them is that they're very different games. They share a particular point of view to the action, but in theme, gameplay, objectives, etc, they might as well be different genres. Even their multiplayer components are difficult to compare: coop play is really nothing like deathmatch play, as far as I'm concerned. @GodSon: Activision did a beautiful job porting the CoD:Zombies experience to the iPlatform, but that's just a tiny little component of a much larger game. To say that a CoD would go for "double" in any other platform is very misleading, since this particular mini-game is not available for purchase on its own elsewhere. The rest of your post is just a collection of pre-digested cliches about Gameloft that really bring nothing to the discussion. Like all cliches, there's some truth behind them, but all in all it's a very thoughtless, prejudiced way to approach Gameloft (notice how you slip in the term "spits out," as if developing Nova took no effort at all, just an act of expectoration). The idea that Nova is "watered down and lifeless" is something that you're bringing to the experience, not something that's inherent to the game. I had tons of fun playing through the (short) single player campaign. Like most of Gameloft's original games, it was a bit too easy and over just as you're getting into it, but that's more a factor of budget than shallowness. More to the point, the success of the game has less to do with pretty graphics (though they help) than with the construction of a fairly convincing FPS console experience on a handheld device, something that's rare in all other portable gaming platforms.
OK I am not attacking you and I respect your opinion. But I hate it when people so this about the pricing of this app. This is NOT a CoD game. This is a minigame inside a CoD game. The actual game is SO much bigger and thats how it gets it's high price tag. This would end up being about $25 for all the maps if they choose that method of updating it. That is half the price of the FULL game on a console, which has much more quality than on the ipod. So yes I do feel this is way overpriced.
@Squarezero true it is a minigame within a bigger game and your right. That is a bit shallow. I do strongly believe that it is very much priced more than fair though for the overall experience you get out of the game. I enjoy The Infinity Project as well. -I agree that co-op play is really nothing like deathmatch play. I prefer co-op even if its a co-op deathmatch (I'm a team player.) -The rest of my post is from my own experiences (far from prejudice because I as well do purchase and play Gameloft games so I am speaking from my own experiences overtime) and I do not speak for others when i post. I stated "This is how I see it" "This is how I view it" "I think so" and "I cant hate on Gameloft for making these games because the consumer buys it and I would love to be laughing my way to the bank too." I'm glad you enjoyed the game. I played through it so i didn't feel i wasted my money and that all was my opinionated conclusion from my own experience with NOVA. I played the multiplayer a few times as well to say I tried but I just wasn't feeling it as much as both Eliminate Pro and CoD. I didn't feel NOVA was a waste of money either; I just didn't like it do to my feelings on the game. I was simply broke down in detail and gave all my reasoning to the post I quoted from Moonmist so He/She knew my reasoning and possibly answered all questions to why. I could have just said "I think CoD is better anyway" like what he/she did to me without reasoning. I think my post was valid to how that quoted response.
OK then, here is my reasoning on why I feel that NOVA is better than CoD. First of all, I feel CoD is a shallow game. Only one level and to me it feels the same everytime I play the game. The only real difference is how many people your playing with and what weapons you happen to get out of the mystery crate. This one level is a great experience the first couple times you play, and sadly to say... that is about all this game has to offer. NOVA on the other hand has a full (albeit short) campaign along with a pretty robust multiplayer mode. In my experience the campaign is actually quite well made and it offers a lot of fun. However, the multiplayer is really where this game shines. It has 4 or 5 maps (I can't recall right now), and about 5 different guns, all with their own uses. I find that the guns are very balanced and not one gun "owns". There are different situations for each and every gun. Now not everything is perfect with NOVA either, it does have some problems. The campaign could definately be longer, and the only multiplayer mode is deathmatch. I wish they would have at least added team deathmatch or possibly even some sort of capture the flag, but the deathmatch mode is still fun. All in all I feel NOVA is the better experience, considering replayability, price, and enjoyment. Even if the two were priced exactly the same, I would still choose NOVA over CoD. Only having one map really kills the enjoyment after a couple of games. Once again these are just my opinions of these two games, as that is what this thread is asking.
@Moonmist Seeing it from your perspective. I understand your point of view and respect it. I think it's always good to see other peoples point of view.
i agree lol, and i'm glad we could have this discussion. I'm also glad that it didn't come down to anybody attacking anyone else. it's just a nice friendly discussion on which game is better. Of course my opinion is right and yours is wrong... hahaha j/k but seriously...
Don't have time to respond at length, but upon rereading my post I realized that it came across harsher than I intended. Guess I'm tired of the whole "Gameloft games lack soul" argument: I think it applies to some games, but not to others, and like all generalizations it's wrong about as often as it's right. But I do appreciate how well you have articulated your opinion and in a way I don't quite disagree -- at any given moment, CoD does fell more like a real console game than Nova. As a whole package, however, the two games are tough to compare.
Having beaten Nova twice and played COD about a thousand times, I'll chime in. And not in the way you might think Sure I'm a "game-loft" hater, I guess if we're generalizing, but really my beef has always been with the shallow lifeless gameplay, and while NOVA certainly didn't change my view on the company, it does have it's merits. First of all it's gourgeous, I mean drop dead gourgeous. The controls are flawless, and the framerate is impressive. However the enemy designs feel very "uninspired", and generic, as does the "marine" you play as. This has always been my basis for disliking them, whether I've been eloquent enough to convey this point is a whole nother story. The whole campaign was a check list of cliche sci fi FPS's. Now these gripes aside, I did find nova to offer it's money's worth, but I believe it is far from the champion it's made out to be. COD on the other hand delivers quality, over quantity. Based on my own subjective experience, I've found COD to have the more compelling gameplay, more interesting sub text, better animations, and overall more identity than NOVA. In short, I had fun with NOVA, and perhaps GL will one day make games that cater more to my tastes, but all in all I'm much more impressed with activision's debut title.
You people who can't pay for a decent game! For Example: I'm not buying Call of Duty:Modern Warfare 2 because It's not 5 dollars
Yeah I understand what you mean there. NOVA doesn't really make you care about your character. It is important to feel attached to the character that you are playing as, because it gives you a reason to continue and care for the fate of your character. IMO, "Game-loft" should of included some proper cutscenes. Something in the style of Metal Gear Solid cutscenes would be perfect. Doesn't have to be anything flash, just some nice simple sketches/art work that shows the feelings/emotions involved. (PS - have you noticed how spell check doesn't recognise "Gameloft" but has "Game-loft" as a spelling suggestion )
I have no problem paying for a good game. I have bought CoD on my ipod and I do enjoy playing it. It's just that there is also something to be said for the amount of content and replayability for your purchase. That is the part of CoD that I do not like. I absolutely love playing it. It's just that with only the one level, it gets boring fast.
Saying NOVA has a campaign does not warrant anything. In my opinion the NOVA campaign was lackluster. It was one of the most linear things I have every played. The entire campaign was summed up into this: Walk, shoot enemies, finish level. There was no variety except in the machine gun level and the simple puzzles. You never had to think as the path was always laid straight out in front of you. I tore through the hard campaign in less than two hours only dying once. The bosses and story were mediocre as well. While this campaign is more single player than COD has, it is simply not very good. I can understand other arguments on why NOVA is better but saying your getting a better value for your money with the campaign in NOVA has no merit in my book. Jusy my 2 cents
I agree...but to be honest, after playing through twice, I'm completely bored of NOVA...and yet still play COD daily. I love coming up with different stratigies, and using different weapons to see how far I can get. I've logged a ridiculous amount of time into that one level, and still boot it up more than any other....now I may be a bit biased, as I ****ing love zombies.
Whenever I say that people generalize about Gameloft, you can consider yourself excluded, le'deuche . Your hatred is always specific and uniquely articulated -- not to mention amusing.
hah, since when ) kid, please N.O.V.A is way better than Eliminate Pro and COD, i don't know why did you made this poll, COD is just too bad in my oppinion ! even Modern Combat beats Eliminate Pro and COD (Maybe not Eliminate but it's better than COD)
