@squarezero I was thinking exactly the same. I don’t know anything about it yet but the video alone made me think so.
I’ve heard about the board game, but never played it. But I’m impressed with the level of polish I’ve seen so far.
This is the deck building - dungeon crawler blend I never know I needed, packaged in a killer app. Game is like crack too. I never considered the original boardgame because of the art and the name (I know…I know…my bad….I thought it was a completely different and more childish game). The digital game is awesome, both solo and multiplayer. Simple to understand, difficult to master. The app is really well done too, like I didn’t see in a long time. Awesome.
If you need an easy opponent, I'm Pitta+1903 on DireWolf servers. I play mainly async, and I can't say no to a Clank! game (I'm in love with the game).
You see this is why we NEED tocuharcade. I saw this when I came out and it just looked muddled and too much going on. I passed on it. I read the new posts here as they came and thought well maybe as I love a good board game. iOS is where I found Wingspan. I read your first post then shortly after your second. I decided to give it more of a look and watched a video. The person I watched was enthusiastic as you. They can’t stop playing. After only playing through the tutorials I am hooked. Already looking to pick up the physical version as well. Game is a blast. I look forward to playing a lot of this. Thanks for the recommendation and review!
I think so. But I play all these games single player. I love Wingspan on iOS and I have only played against AI or single player game. @Pitta I already went out and bought the physical version lol. Between the two I’m out just over $100. Can’t wait to play the physical with the family. Wife and oldest both love board games these days.
While nothing imho tops beating a friend with 1 health left escaping the dungeon with the treasure while he gets roasted by the dragon you woke up, I think the solo game is very solid in this case. AI is pretty competent (brutal at hard setting) and they added a ton of very cool challenges with slighty different rules for each one that I find very fun (and difficult at hard, you really have to wrap your head around on BOTH the deck aspect AND the path choosing). On top of that, they also added some sort of seasonal play with different games you can repeat just 3 times in a short timespan. Seems fun but I have yet to try those....I have too many async games going on Also, there are actually TWO boards you can choose, the advanced one plays a bit different from the normal one, it's longer and the fear of getting roasted is way more real, so instead of 'just' trying to get the most in the shortest path and getting out (generally concentrating on mobility more than deck tuning and attacks), the catacombs map really tests you out on everything (deck tuning, attacks, surviving the dragon, mobility, all at once). It's also, but maybe it's just me, the first 'top scorer wins' boardgame I really like because I can always see other players score and react with my strategy.
I'm playing with some friends so I really do not know. I started some open async games and in few hours I was playing with strangers. I noticed in the lobby a bunch of open live games too (expecially on USA daytime). Game, as far as I know, is cross play between iOS, Android and Steam.
I'm tempted too to get the physical version too, maybe catacombs (a stand alone expansion) that adds the tile discovery mechanic (on of my favorite in moardgames). I also hope they will publish the (many) expansions on digital too. Speaking of the digital version, while a great app, I suggested some things to the devs the other day. First QoL improvements would be NOT HAVING to keep the finger pressed to see the enlarged card on iPhone, but having just a tap and then another tap to get it small again, because as it is now, unless you already know the cards out of your memory, the finger actually covers said enlarged cards and the minimum movement resets the card, so it's annoying. I found a bugged card too, SEARCH, which doesn't give me the +1 gold for some reason (they are looking into it). And another thing...you should be able to invite async friends while they aren't online too. Other than that, the app is really great and I came to appreciate many choices they made the more I play (like the side mini cards two rows, etc..)
Woah, what a score!!! I never paid attention to the score really, I just tried to stay alive and win against my opponents, but I think my top score war around 90. And I had like 6 dragon tomes (I know beacuse you get an achievement for that)!!!
I bought it! I still don't understand some of its mechanisms though, it's fun game. I really want to have friends to play with chat this game.
