It's true that you keep fossils when you reset, but if you never unlock clans in the first place there's nothing to update the data with.

The game had just a tiny bit more lag than normal. Barely noticeable. I'm on iPad mini second gen (retina display)

You don't have to reinstall if you don't want to. The only reason to would be if you were trying to race with everyone to name a new stone. And seeing as you already have one...
Well, I'll just restart and not name a stone until I get super deep. I'll name the 100th stone Plus it's easier to get fossils when you restart
