Will wait for some impressions. Seems really interesting though. ste86uk Well-Known Member May 9, 2012 6,774 1,000 113 #4 ste86uk, Feb 5, 2020 Looks good, reminds me of King Rabbit a bit. I’d be interested to know about the black borders too. Royce Well-Known Member Mar 22, 2011 4,240 180 63 #5 Royce, Feb 5, 2020 Looks a bit like a modern take on Chip’s Challenge. I’ve had it on preorder so I’ll let you know about the borders ASAP. I’m looking forward to this one. drelbs, ShinHadoukin, sakara214ever and 1 other person like this. Basically it maintains the same aspect ratio regardless of screen size. It really doesn’t bother me. However, the controls are really not ideal. It’s a virtual pad that centers where you first place your finger and resets if you lift it. A transparent fixed pad or buttons would work much better for this type of game I think. It feels especially awkward on iPad where the control pad is gigantic. I will dig into the game further because I love the idea here, and I can see there’s a ton of content, but I hope the controls get patched. crait Member Feb 6, 2020 7 3 3 Male #7 crait, Feb 6, 2020 Hey, guys. I really appreciate the feedback! Totally can understand why a static d-pad would be preferred for some players. I'll start working on getting that put into the game. My initial thoughts about that were that you wouldn't want a static d-pad obscuring part of the level that you're looking at while trying to plan out your routes. OH, YEAH! I try to check out every level that people upload, so if this interests you, I definitely would love to see! Unfortunately, this was to maintain a similar aspect ratio among all devices. The levels do not change size, so the only other option would be to stretch the screen. Actually, the controls are almost identical in that you can swipe to move Circuit Dude. Holding down the swipe is just for convenience. Royce Well-Known Member Mar 22, 2011 4,240 180 63 #8 Royce, Feb 6, 2020 That’s awesome news. Thanks! Part of my problem with the current controls, even if I think of it as swipe to move, is that there is too much dead space before movement starts, and I always seem to travel one space further than I intend to before I stop or turn, but maybe I will adjust. Congrats on the release. BrettArchibald Well-Known Member Jul 17, 2008 1,436 18 38 Male Self-employed interactive designer. This is a touchscreen, there are no buttons on it, so allow me to swipe to move. OK, hang on... so *are* there swipe controls? Because I *love* King Rabbit, and the control method in that game is perfect! BrettArchibald Well-Known Member Jul 17, 2008 1,436 18 38 Male Self-employed interactive designer. Formerly Zimbabwe - now England. http://www.LonelyMachine.com #10 BrettArchibald, Feb 6, 2020 That's not the only other option. Many other universal games overcome this by adding "unnecessary" visuals around the sides, and you can then choose how much of this gets shown or gets cropped, depending upon the device. It's a much better option than black bars, which make it look as if the game was not intended to be played on that device... David1105 Member Feb 12, 2012 24 2 3 #11 David1105, Feb 6, 2020 Controls need to be worked on. Joystick is way too big. And if you disable it in the settings there doesn't seem to be any other control method? I tried swiping etc but nothing responded. Also, how do you activate Hints when stuck in the game and any chance of a back button? Royce Well-Known Member Mar 22, 2011 4,240 180 63 #12 Royce, Feb 6, 2020 So it’s a virtual pad that appears centered where you place your finger, but effectively you could view it as swipe controls and honestly I may have gotten used to it more quickly if the giant virtual pad graphic simply wasn’t there. I have gotten much more comfortable with the controls, but I still find it less than fluid and slightly imprecise. The dead space in the center of the pad is too big, and I simply find myself making occasional incorrect moves even when I am just swiping one space at a time. sakara214ever Well-Known Member May 10, 2012 1,262 168 63 #13 sakara214ever, Feb 6, 2020 I partially agree with you. The way i see it is that a game which is not using my phones full screen is just not for me. Black borders or whatever "borders" it uses. This does not mean that a game is not good or not i just do not want to try it so i do not even bother buying it. Again this is just a personal opinion this game looks really good for anyone who does not mind the borders. crait Member Feb 6, 2020 7 3 3 Male #14 crait, Feb 6, 2020 Yeah, it's not a static d-pad that covers of obscures the puzzles! The movement is swipe movement, but you can hold your swipe to move multiple steps if you choose. Actually, the other methods are using a keyboard or gamepad. With the PC version, I had several people use their fingers while playing to plan out their steps by pushing their fingers against the screen. They'd inadvertently move the player with the touchscreen on my laptop by accident, so I added in the ability to disable the touchscreen controls. If you have an Android device with arrow buttons or you have something like the iCade, the controls can always be used as an alternative input method. Point taken! In the next update, I'll try to add this option for those who want to use their full device screen. sakara214ever likes this. sakara214ever Well-Known Member May 10, 2012 1,262 168 63 #15 sakara214ever, Feb 6, 2020 Thank you! You now have a conventional on-screen d-pad, or you can toggle back to swipe controls. Please lemme know if this feels more natural! I actually researched this a lot and switching the two modes (maintaining aspect ratio versus stretching) is difficult to toggle between. This update did not include the stretching option, but I have figured out how to do it, partially. I will make sure to post in this thread when I get it included! Because I agree that it should be in the game. sakara214ever likes this. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
